I have 2 autistic sons and when I got with my husband it changed his look on the disabled community different. He became one of my sons best advocates and I didn’t feel like I was fighting alone. Now that they in are in their 30’s there is more help then when they were younger.

I'd just so love him to get the Oscar this year. He has a deep and pure soul. He has made me laugh at his comedies and yet plumbed the depths of feeling to give such a powerful performance in The Whale. He's always come across as a genuinely nice person, so rare in Hollywood.

Just watched this and I have a deep love and appreciation for Brendan on this interview/revelation alone. As an autistic person myself, to know he sees us autistics and makes sure to just be present with them as it would mean the world to them and bring them so much joy. That and his honesty about his crestfallen feelings when he was diagnosed - it's understandable and even more admirable at how he's learned how special his son is, he learned to appreciate and find joy in his son's joy. And I totally believe what he says about taking a simple commuter flight. I honestly love Brendan for this and want to give him a great big hug, regardless of how much fame or money the man has.

I'M 57 was diagnosed later in life with very high functioning Autism. Early in life I was more socially awkward than I am now. I work in I.T. and get paid very well doing it. I was lucky and was able to fit in and get a career and get married. I have 2 nephews and few cousins that were diagnosed with Autism early in life and got help. But, they are now in their late teens, 20's & 30's. From what I see and talking to their parents. They will never be able leave home and live on their own. Even if they have some sort of paid work to do. It really sucks.

That is why, I’m sorry to say, I wouldn’t accept a diagnosis of autism if I were you. If someone wouldn’t know from speaking to you, and if your life hasn’t seemed to be impaired significantly at all, you’re not autistic. I’m sorry, but I’m sick of everyone trying to claim something they’re not. Even if a doctor told me I was on the spectrum today I would say BS. Don’t use it as an excuse cause you’re a little eccentric. Sincerely, parent of a truly autistic son.

Not weird at all. If Howard Stern has the same mentality as he had years ago, then talking to a parent of someone with autism would be beneficial to him since it should educate him and maybe it'll be a learning experience. Everyone deserve to grow and be better. Ignorance is not bad, it's the refusal to learn that is.

My daughter has autism and we all wish that there was something that could be done to help correct the problem but we all know that there isn't. With that being said all we can do is embrace it and learn all we can about it for those who can't. I tend to believe that these people no matter what end of the spectrum they are on are operating on a higher level than any of us. There are a lot of influential people out there that have loved ones on the spectrum. I would love to see them in hundreds NO thousands of commercials bringing awareness to this subject! There also needs to be more fliers and pamphlets put out educating people on how to communicate and interact with these loved ones!!! AWARENESS!!!!!!!! AWARENESS!!!!!!!! AWARENESS!!!!!!!! GET IT OUT THERE!!!!!!!! IT CAN BE DONE!!! 🧩🐸🌐

  • @ActualCharky

The only "problem" which needs to be "corrected" is the world's attitude towards Autistic people. It's getting better, but ideas like the spectrum having "ends" really aren't actually helping anyone. What we really all want is for people to meet our support needs (high or low as they may be) and help us to deal with our individual difficulties as they occur... Rather than making them worse with harsh lighting and strange social expectations.
