Believe it or not, I actually saw Brenda a few months ago. True story - When I was in my 20s, I rented an apartment from her brother. One day, I asked him if he was related to Brenda because he had the same last name, and to my surprise, he said yes, she's my little sister! Well, long story short, he got me her autograph, and I see her from time to time whenever I'm in her neighborhood. She's STILL STUNNING at 74!!!!!

Thank you for highlighting this woman. The movie Mandingo literally changed my life and re emphasized why excellence was so important for all of us survivors of the diaspora to ascend for the ancestors who sacrificed sooo much. Tamara Dobson, Lynette Mc Kee,Vanetta McGee and so many others played a significant role in shifting the paradigm. Shout out to Oscar Michaud and seminal role in this genre decades before. 🙏🏽

Oh I'm so glad you researched her. She's underrated. I saw her in The Sheriff, Black Gunn with Jim Brown. She had a child with Gil Scott-Heron. I'm a huge fan of the 70s black films. Gloria Hendry, Paula Kelly, Vonetta McGhee, Tamara Dobson, Lonetta McGhee, and Jayne Kennedy. Man there's so many....For the record, Tarrantino purchased several 70s films. And he's put some of the actors in them.

Trust those actors didn’t make nearly what the studios earned off those movies. Everything we do doesn’t have to a “free the slave” moment. We are so much more. I remember from the 1970's, a chocolate beauty who defines beauty in a unique way. She should have received proper acknowledgement from the " Hollywood" establishment. However, she was ignored, and, basically forgotten from the system. It is great that the generations of today are learning about this fine "sister!

I remembered her from the Good Times episode. I was too young to see Mandingo when it was first released but recall seeing newspaper for it. I watched it on prime a few years ago for the first time (infuriating!). I love her doe eyes and beautiful smile. She should have been a much bigger star. I'd love to see you do a video on Miles Davis' 2nd wife Betty Davis who had a recording career in 70s. She was quite the trailblazer in many ways.

Brenda Sykes a beautiful presence on the movie and TV screen you could not take your eyes off as you were watching her. A graceful beautiful woman with a soft voice and striking manner. No wonder every man she played opposite of fell in love with her. She made all of us young black girls appreciate the romantic stories in our own lives. And yes,we had romance too! Thank you Miss Sykes.

I remember Brenda Sykes and thought she was beautiful, regal and refined. A classy representation of black woman onscreen. I modeled myself after her. I often wondered what happened to her over the year. I am glad to know she is still around!

Such a gorgeous woman. I hate that black women have such a small fraction of representation that we get to experience on television and movies. It seems to be just as bad today when it comes to darker skinned beauties.

I remember her from Mandingo and from Good Times. I remember her Being on the front of the Jet Magazine. I'm old enough to remember the blaxploitation movies. I remember going to the drive in with my parents and siblings to see those movies because those were the only ones that feature people that look like us. But my parents were very careful because sometimes they were too violent and overly sexual. When I got older I watched them and was sadden buy how short their careers were. If you have a chance one of my favorites was Tamara Dobson I think her name was. She was known as Cleopatra Jones!! I had to have my hair like hers a big afro with that short fur coat and jeans! Please don't stop doing videos about these women they shouldn't be forgotten.
