I grew up flying Bill Pensom rollers from 1960-1967 (High school) … I used to visit Mr. Pensom on the weekends… He took a liking to me … he knew I liked white grizzle’s and blue badges … with an occasional Dunn or dark almond … I’d cross his roller line Pensom strain Birmingham’s … mostly whites x blue badges … no roll downs 👍…just 3-4 foot tight spinners… Back then I also knew this guy Bill Hague who lived in El Monte, Ca. He’d made a couple of trips to Birmingham England and hand picked other rollers to his liking … I’d backcross them onto the Pensome strain birds … I had several (6+) pair of small Homers I’d use as foster folks. I’d usually raise 20+ young birds a breeding season … fly a big 20 bird Kit … then cull down to a dozen birds … I took a few years, but damn what great rollers … then I got drafted into the army in 1967 and gave all my birds to a good friend … I still my rollers … I even had over 20+ pure white Parlor rollers … if you wanted a pair of white parlors they’d cost you … And I got wind of these White Thailand Laughter’s that this guy in North Hollywood had imported thru a pigeon friend so my dad drove me up to his places … I purchased three pair and this guy gave me three other youngsters … I was set … I wore them foster Homer parents out … Before long I was selling Laughers for $80 dollars a pair … back then I always had money in my pockets … Thailand Laughter’s will crack you up … Ha …Ha … Ha … 🤣 … watch a KZread video … FYI … I started hybridizing rollers when I was in the 4th grade … had friends of friends that raised mostly the Pensom strain … I was a lucky kid …

All the best for the breeding, and that's a nice clean loft floor even though birds are on the floor.. How often do you clean the loft?

Thank you very much. I clean the kit boxes every 2 weeks. The breeding loft gets scraped every other day and then a big clean once a month.

Do pigeons mate for life? Or you can change it by sticking some alone together in a pen?

Yes, you can split your pair and isolate them with a new potential mate.

Do you have to breed more birds than normal for the numbers you loose in the sky

I lose a lot of birds and yes I do normally breed extra but this year I’ve still got a lot of yearlings so won’t be breeding as much.
