I breed Great Danes. Mommas need a good amount of raw meat in their diets that makes rich flowing milk. And the biggest secret is Fenugreek and Milk Thistle. By day 3 the milk flows like a cow. The reason the puppies aren't nursing from a C section momma is the pain meds from Momma's taints the taste of the milk. Some puppies won't nurse because of it. Others will nurse because they're just hungry enough to ignore the bitter taste of the milk from the meds. Hope that helps.

I’m familiar with fenugreek, I don’t see how raw meat would do anything for lactation & antibiotics do not make moms milk bitter. They just got used to the smell of the other dog as their mom
Remy is the best, she such a good mama even to pups who aren’t hers. Your dedication to your dogs has always impressed me

I use procox, years ago we had cox in a litter and it was incredibly messy, one dose of procox and that was done. I now use procox over panacur. As for the pups not nursing on mum thats fairly random however the other girl has stepped up and I would just roll with that.

Honestly, as a mother who breast fed her children, (I’m not claiming to know much about dogs, but it’s all relative) I’m not so sure putting pups with the surrogate mom was a good idea for a few reasons. 1. The colostrum for any living thing is vital to their survival and development, especially bc pups are at high risk for many diseases and parasites. 2. The MOMENT any baby or pup receives milk the “easy way” (bottle/formula for baby) then forget it. Pups will not even try to nurse on mom bc they already are aware of their food source and the easiest source. 3. If it ever happens again, just wait it out. They WILL figure it out and they will get hungry enough to feed out of pure desperation and mom will know and become more tolerant too. If pups don’t nurse after birth, her milk will never come in at all. Colostrum HAS TO be consumed and the brain will then allow glands to produce milk. So just sit with mom and comfort her and DONT GIVE UP IR GIVE IN!

She wasn’t producing milk & any mother’s milk is better than formula & still has colostrum in it to help with immunity.

Idk but i think its the smell and sense bc they obviously cant see at that age, my female ate one at birth due to this vise versa she didnt recognize her own.

Those pups aren’t stupid. Her milk may look great but they know it doesn’t taste good for them. Had that happen to one of my females twice. Thank god I had a surrogate.
