@@vanessastefania3414 Look if you can't do the first one for at least one minute other exercises might be helpful and i know you can do it because everyone can do so you can too just keep up for a week or two you will be there and just because you can't do the first exercise do not back down keep doing the other exercises while you reach the one minute goal for the first exercise, goodluck you can do it.
You can practice lip rolls, nays, mums, all day long, but if your breathing isnt right your singing can fall short. Thank you Jacob for giving us great content for all us to become better singers everyday!

For anyone struggling with the first exercise I find that it helps to put all of your focus into the sound being made instead of the air coming out.

Also: leave it (together with the 'economizing' exercise) for the very end of the workout. There is a reason why 'Exercise 1' starts at 5:40...

okay lmao here we go, might get to 1 min someday: ssss exercise day 1: 25 seconds day 2: 27 seconds (did nearly pass out though) day 3: 30 seconds (yayyy) day 4: 33 seconds (past half whoop) day 5: 37 seconds day 6: 24 seconds ( hahaha lol um what, imma try again at the end of the vid lol)(okay i only did 30 afterwards :() day 7: 32 seconds day 8: 34 seconds day 10: 36 seconds i missed 2 days soz day 12: 34 seconds missed another 2 days oops day 13: 33 seconds day 14: 42 seconds (YES QUEENS and i missed so many days wth) day 15: 40 seconds update: haven’t done this in like 5 months but i did 38 seconds which isn’t bad and i actually stood up for once but my ability to sustain notes for longer has improved a lot

you see im a choir student and our saying is when are you supposed to breath? Yesterday. also a quick tip use your diaphragm and use good posture aka shoulders up back down because if your diaphragm is collapsed you won't get a good breath

@@xey2285 no actually I am doing classical rewaz for past 2 months. That's about an hour of vocal exercise daily. Too much exercise can cause damage to the vocal that's why I am doing one at a time. But both of these lessons (classical & jacobs) have been helpful. goodluck!

No,you have to do sss and breath each yime you need to,but obviously trying to hold the air as much as you can.
omg after i did the whole exercise i managed to complete the first one in one breath. when i tried the first exercise for the first time i needed to breathe 3 times but now i did it in one breath. i'm so happy that i'm making progress.

Well I have a concert after 2 weeks...while rehearsals i found out that I could not sustain my breath for a line in a song....so keeping that as my target I started doing these exercises....and yesterday after a week I could sing the same line of that song in a breath... thank you so much Jacob.... I am definitely going to continue this

When he says repeat for 5 time it means that you should do it continuously, then you can rest for 8 counts and then doit 5 times and so on.

@@dreamywarda counts are how many beats are in a measure of music ex. Twinkle Little Star has four beats per measure usually you'll be able to snap along with the beat and you can figure out how many beats are per measure eventually
I've been singing for a WHILE and I never noticed my breath support being this bad. I got to 13:33 today...I'll finish this video someday. I'm committing to this starting today. :)

This breathing exercises is so good. I noticed an improvement in a week. I always had a hard time in sustaining some notes but I can sustain them a little better now and it sounds fuller too. Thanks Jacob!

March 30 (day 1) - did upto 7 min, it starts getting boring u know, did first one in three breath March 31 (day 2) - finished first one in two breath, learning that high notes needs more breath. Upto 11 min. April 1 (day 3) - ✅ finished excercise in one breath. Finished entire session within some breaks. Metronome also helping with rhythm sense. April 2-✅ April 3-✅ April 4 - ✅ Long break April 13 - ✅ barely able to :=). Can't blv how easy it gets eventually. This is magic. April 14 - ✅ April 15 - ✅ April 16-✅ barely any at all. April 17 - ✅ well done.

l last 43 after practicing a few weeks :)
Nov 23 - ✅ can’t do full minute in beginning. But was calm by the end Nov 24 - ✅ still can’t do full minute. I’ve had to be in public/quiet spaces so just been humming the vocal part Nov 25 - ✅ Nov 26 - ✅ Nov 27 - ✅completed 1/2 of video earlier in the day and 1/2 later in the day. tried the 1 minute breath again after finishing-- JUST BARELY MADE IT! Nov 28 - ✅ back to struggling with full minute in the beginning. I find the rest of the exercises easier and enjoyable now though Nov 29 - ✅ was very impatient with the beginning so only did like 30 seconds. rest of exercises completed while multi-tasking Nov 30 - ✅ Dec 1 - ✅ Dec 2 - ✅ Dec 3 - ✅ Dec 4 - ❌ I did like 1 workout only. I did sing performing in front of an audience on this day so there's that! Dec 5 - ✅ Dec 6 - ❌ did other exercises, but not breathing Dec 7 - ✅ Dec 8 - ❌ didn’t do exercises but performed singing live Dec 9 - ✅ Dec 10 - ❌ Dec 11 - ❌ (I did sing/perform tho) Dec 12 - ✅ I did 2/3 of it and also sang so that counts lol Dec 13 - ❌😪 Dec 14 - ✅ ok update with this experiment. doing these exercises really did help a lot!! I have since transitioned to trying out other exercises (that aren't just breathing, but include a breathing component). My goal now is to do at least 20 minutes of vocal warmups every day, even if that's all the singing I do for a day. This daily breathing challenge helped me create a vocal warmup habit and I feel much more aware of my breath when I sing too. YAY!

Do I only do second exercise five times then skip to next?
From now on, I’m going to do this before I go to sleep, lying in bed, to help me breathe from my diaphragm. Hopefully it will be a calming way to end the day. Thanks for the exercises! EDIT: I have noticed that these exercises are significantly easier when I’m lying down. Should I continue to do them lying down, or would it be better if I was sitting upright/standing? Also it was not very relaxing... haha. I lost count or zoned out a few times, but I still think these are helpful. At the very least challenging (especially towards the end). I’m going to continue to use this until saying sss for that minute is possible. Thanks again!

well are you going to be singing laying down or standing up. not that doing them laying down isnt beneficial, just get adequate practice as you will be

I had the same problem! I looked up videos to make sure I was breathing correctly, using my diaphram and releasing the air rather than pushing it out. I'd suggest looking up videos on how to properly breathe while singing, and also check your posture!

Aren't core exercises making your abdomen tight, while singers should rather relax it? (I heard it from some coach but not sure as I'm just a beginner 😅)

@@welp6982 You’re right, core exercises do make your abdomen muscles “tight” but I find I’m better able to “suck in” my diaphragm when I regularly work my core. Might sound counterintuitive but I feel I can “find” my diaphragm more easily and have more smooth control over it - Maybe because with exercise you also build better neuromuscular connections? Not an expert, just a personal anecdote 😅
Doing this everyday along with other excercises as well so i can become a great singer. My dream is to be a singer and im going to make that come true no mater what it takes Day 1-✅

I’ve found it’s important to be consistent with the amount of airflow per beat. Try to breath in and out consistently while also bringing in/breathing out as much as you can. Also that minute gets easier; after a week and a half I can now do the full minute at a barely audible volume :)

Thank you for this! Just finished another vocal session and my coach told me I have to master breathing because some notes are shaky and unsupported esp the high ones. :) Will definitely include this in my exercises. :)
Been doing these exercises along with others for while. I can't believe how much stronger my diaphram has become.

Doing this every day at least once Day1: done Lying down, Feeling lightheaded. Day2: done Day3: done Today I felt a difference in range, I could go 1.5 tone higher! Day4: done Day5: done I think I overused my voice and I'm so worried... I hope it's nothing serious. I've stopped talking. Day6: done. Day7: done. Day8, 9, 10: I didn't do the exercise because i was too anxious about the potential vocal injury. But my voice is back and I'm gonna rest it even more. I'll restart the exercise then. Day1: done
