Breathing, Consciousness and A New Approach to Healthcare | OA Podcast S4E12 with Dr Sherry Sami

“When the person’s mouth is open, their ability to digest life significantly reduces.”
On the latest episode of the Oxygen Advantage podcast, Patrick is joined by speaker, coach and renowned dental expert Dr. Sherry Sami. She is a dual specialist in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics with a wide interest in the whole picture of physical and mental health.
Dr. Sami runs Happy Kids Dental Planet practice in Agora Hills California and counts Gwyneth Paltrow among the many influential people that have been through her doors over the years. Sherry also works closely with her medical doctor husband Dr. Habib Sadeghi who runs the Be Hive of Healing Integrative Medical & Dental Center, also in Agora Hills.
Both are trained in psychology and Sherry has studied Patrick’s work on breathing for well over a decade. They have designed their practices to work closely with patients, offer a comprehensive look at physical and mental health, and show how our mind can affect our physical wellbeing.
The two also work together in their non-profit organization, the Love Button Global Movement. This organization found its origins in Dr. Sadeghi’s cancer diagnosis in the 90s when he started to wear a homemade Love Button “as a daily reminder that healing happens when you choose love”.
The organization aims “to support initiatives ranging from intimate local efforts to global programs that promote physical and mental health, nurture education and cultivate loving action”.
This is a great podcast for anyone interested in the strides many modern medical and dental professionals are making to change how they treat patients and the things they can do to improve healing for the body and mind.

Hey Patrick. I found out a little life hack. When I drink to much coffee (on an empty stomach especially ! ), I get really stressed out and upper chest breathing. If I then do rotator cuff exercises, all the negative side effects (of coffee) are gone, and my breathing is LSD. (light, slow deep) (rotator cuff is the antagonist to the upper traps.) I also find, that activating said muscles, helps a lot with reduced breathing exercises !

This is interesting ! Which rotator cuff exercices are you referring to? And activating which muscles?

That is very interesting @lordnelsonmc.billionberg9166. Coffee can often have that effect. I advise against drinking it too much, especially if you are prone to things like asthma. Though I enjoy it myself also and of course it can be very good for us in a variety of ways. Everything in moderation, as they say. I don't know the specifics of how the rotator cuff exercises may be helping but I can see how exercise can help reduce those symptoms. It sounds like a pretty great hack you've found.

@@OxygenAdvantage Thank you very much for your reply :D Im a big fan since years ! Yes coffee is a drug, and should be treated with caution/respect. I think the rotator cuff stimulation reduces upper trap activation. (because they are antagonists ; if one is active, the other is automaticly less/not active ) Upper trap is heavily involved in fight or flight modus, and also in upper chest breathing.

Hi Patrick. I’m so glad my friend recommended you to me a few days ago. Everything is right time, space and sequence. I’ve really enjoyed watching your videos and bought some mouth tape today. 🙏 😊
