BREATHE. | Joe DiStefano | TEDxLugano

What is the most fundamental aspect of our survival and wellbeing that we most commonly overlook? In this inspiring talk, Joe DiStefano reveals the importance of getting back to fundamentals through our own breath.
Joe DiStefano is a lifestyle and fitness expert who solves chronic health problems with simple lifestyle adjustments. Over the past five years, he has lectured on coaching, training, nutrition, lifestyle, and obstacle race preparation all over the world, to experts and professionals from over 30 countries. He is currently the Director of Sport at Spartan Race, the world’s leading obstacle racing company. Joe is also the founder of RUNGA, an eight-day retreat in Costa Rica designed to help busy people unplug and unwind.
Joe’s philosophy of health revolves around simple lifestyle changes that anyone can make at any time. His simple method, which he first used to recover from a traumatic brain injury, revolves around the optimization of breathing, movement, and sleep patterns. He has used it to help several thousand clients, and his work has been featured in several print and online publications such as Men’s Health, Men’s Journal, Outside, and SELF.
Joe currently lives in Boston, MA.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I have been using this technique for 2 days before going to bed. Results: I have slept 2 nights in row, with no pain and no pain meds. So last night I forgot to do it. Today the tightness and pain is incredible. I won't forget tonight.

I loved this. I've been teaching Pilates for 18 years, so I totally understand the importance of breathing right. I also knew that heart rate variability has a very close association with heart disease risk, but I've never seen the two put together like this. Massive light bulb moment, thanks so much. Excellently presented.

I love this! Heart Math Institute has been studying HRV for about 30 years. It seems more and more people are talking about HRV. I'm pretty sure I heard someone like Dr. Wayne Dyer say, "JUMP IN EVERY PUDDLE!" I shared this over and over.

Seeing this video again. I remember pulling grass on rock landscape for 2 hours with 2 heels level on the ground. I got sore on my hamstrings a day or two later but my back was at its best. These baby positions never fail, sitting on a chair or stool while working low on the ground does more harm on your body than good.
