Thanks 👍 Darren. Yeah that system is a mess these days. The weed has taken over which makes it almost unfishable. Had to take the mirage drive out because it was full of weed. But it does highlight that with some changes to tackle like fishing lighter and using weed less jig heads you can still catch a few decent fish.

Nice video. Great to see good sized Bream Caught in so much weed. Well done!

Great video Alan, I was there a few weeks back before lockdown 4 and got onto a couple of bream very similar size that you got using same the hidden weight system and midnight oil grub too. Its a challenge to get their heads turned once they bury themselves in the weed though, one took me a good 15 min to land.

Thanks !! Yeah ive never seen that location so weedy. Worst its been for many years. Even trying to use the mirage drive was super challenging. And when you do hook a decent one you loose some of the runs and fight because your just battling thick thick weed. Lets hope they tidy it up soon. And yeah 100% cant go wrong with motor oil grub with HWS jig heads.

Love your instructional videos, very easy to comprehend and very well explained. To the novice your advice is a godsend. I look forward to many more and hope tp put them into practice very soon. Well done.

Another good video, mate. At one stage, I was researching heavily for a rod that does both soft plastic and hardbody lures well. The more I researched, the more I realized that rod didn't exist, at least not to my criteria. So now I have a Daiwa TD Hyper (super stiff HVF blank) for the SPs and an Arrowz rod for the HBs.

Hi James, Yeah I agree with your comments 100%. I too was always looking for that one general purpose combo that could do soft plastics and hard body lures but you soon realise that they are 2 very different fishing techniques. Its why brands like Daiwa, Millers etc have so many technique specific rods these days. Which is awesome but does get expensive quickly. Great choices you have made on the rod selections the Arrowz and TD Hypers are great value for money.

Yeah took me a while to work it out, but it does really help with technique once you know the differences. Only if i had more money some of the bream gear you could spend a small fortune on would be awesome

Nice mate couple ripper bream. I been trying to fish salt water lately usually fish for trout around noojee etc but been getting my ass kicked. Good to know I’m using the right stuff I just gotta persist!

Thanks !! Yeah keep persisting 100%. It can be a battle trying to land decent fish on light gear but 100% thats the right stuff and thats what makes it so much fun. Heart in the mouth stuff trying to land a fish on gear so light.

Hi Serge, I hope you are well. Have a look at the 12:47 second mark. It shows footage all the way up the rod blank and shows the exact model. Its the Crank 70BC its a ripper rod for about $130 I believe

Hi Alan looking to buy my first decent spin reel up from a Sedona to pair with a 3-10 lb atomic arrowz estuary rod I am currently trying to decide between the vanford and the daiwa td sol iii in 2500 would love your option on the 2

Fantastic, both those options are a massive step up from the Sienna. I have used the SOL and Vanford a lot over the last 12 months. Both are very good reels and you wouldnt be disappointed with either. I tend to always go for the vanford over the Sol. The drag on it just feels so much nicer, sounds amazing when you catch a fish and the handle also feels nicer in the hand.

Great instructional video for us beginners. All very complex but you explain it better than anyone.

Thanks Heath. Yeah the infeet Z rods are great for soft plastics just make sure you get the ones with the red colours. Daiwa has colour coded red/black for fast action and blue/white for slow action. I found the handles quite big on the infeet Zs so just keep that in mind

Yeah unfortunately it was a bit of a jump up in price. The EX go for $499 i believe. But they feel very nice in hand with the full foam handle

Blades you can work in 2 ways. I prefer sharp lift and then let them sink to the bottom and stay there for a few seconds. The lift adds all the vibration, otherwise you can slow roll them and get good vibration. Surface lures work very slowly and continually mix up the retrieve adding some hard down twitches

Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback. The Luvias seems to be OK. I put new line on the reel, and serviced it as much as I could and its OK for the moment. I still prob need to send it back for a proper service at some stage.

They are very good, have you seen the new Luvias Airity came out. Looks very similar to the certate and a lot more expensive.

do you top shot a mono backing with the 6lb braid on the reel? if so how do you do this without overfilling? cheers

Hi Geoff, I usually do braid all the way through. Many of the reels I have are shallow spools so 150M of braid is often fine, if not then i will back spool it with some really light mono and fine knot to avoid tangles. I usually look at the manufacturer specs to see how much line should fit on the reel which makes it a little easier to guess.

LOL, Its tough out there and I have my fair share of struggles at times catching too. Especially during this time of year when the weather is much colder. Often its lots of research lots of experimenting and some times lots of hours.

I'm a complete newbie at 55yo haha. Flooked a bream pre covid at patterson river and am hooked for life. No luck since but been using bait (chicken, squid, prawn) but just get stripped all the time. Should l just try soft plastics? Didn't notice in video if sinker was on or just jighead? I'm land based BTW. Any advice greatly appreciated or better spot than patterson river. I'm in Hampton Park. Thanks.

Hi Stewart, I would suggest try a smaller hook size for your baits and also try a smaller sinker size, you will find that will help a lot for baits getting striped. Also many times its things like small mullet and bait fish striping the bait before bream can get to it. Also using berley when its quiet can really help. Patterson river is generally a very productive fishing spot and soft plastics are a great way of targeting them. With soft plastics I generally use a 1/16, 1/20 jig head on something like a 2.5 inch grub. I'm actually working on a 2 hour workshop right now on all the basics of bream fishing which will go live in a week or two so might be worth having a look into our members area to help fast track your catch rates with bream and other fishing stuff and species fishingmad.com.au/member hope that helps

Hi Alan, I am a beginner still struggling to catch my first fish, all I got is a Kmart rod and I have been told to start with bait fishing instead of jumping into lure fishing. The problem is I can't find many resources about bait fishing, perhaps I am not searching the right words. Using my Kmart rod and the Kmart bream rig, I cut small pieces or Pilchards and use that for bait. But once it is in the water, I do not know what to do, should I reel it up every so often to check if the bait is still hooked? Or should I just leave it say 2 hours and call it a no fish day.. how do I know when to reel up and change location

Thanks for your message, for starters whoever told you not to use soft plastics or lures and just stick to bait is giving you poor advice. Soft plastics, lures and baits all work well, how you catch them is completely up to you. I find it a lot more fun to catch them with soft plastics and lures, but many i know also prefer bait, so its a personal choice and not what someone tells you to do. There are some really helpful bait fishing vids on our channel as well this one here is a good example kzread.info/dash/bejne/h4Cds6iiYdaTZMY.html when bait fishing for bream live baits like worms, maggots and yabbies work great. cast them out and leave the line in. I usually check it every 10-15 minutes to make sure there isn't any weed on the line and that the bait is still there and rigged properly. Also its a good idea to use very light line and leaders it makes a big difference when targeting bream, pinkies that sort of stuff. heaps of helpful content on the channel and we have very detailed instructional how to guides and workshops in the FishingMad members portal. Yeah bream gear gets expensive very quickly. Theres some gear out there i would love to have that is probably some time away.

The TD Hyper 1-2kg is a really good all round rod that isn’t to pricey
