I am from Poland and I can confirm - we have mountains near southern border, but most of them are pretty old, so in exception of Carpathia they are not high. We also have very specific regional cuture connected with mountains - so called Górale ("Highlanders", "Mountainmen" in roughly translation)

The name is just because the field's tribe conquered others. We have a lot of mountains on our southern, south-west and north-east borders, as well as the St. Christopher's mountains basically in the south-centre region

I had german for 2 years in school and is still cant really understand it but yeah it is quite simmilar but english is probably just as symillar, I do have some tips for you in regards of speaking dutch: when you don't now if you should use de or het , you can try ( if it doesn't sound stupid) to use a dimmunitive. So for example if you want to say je staat op de vinger (you are standing on the finger) you can make it dimmunitive so than it would be: je stond op het vingertje ( you are standing on my little finger) if you use a dimmunitive you always use het. now i will proceed with improving your comment. Oostenrik should be Oostenrijk and kommen is komen . hope you learnd somthing.

Well, interwar period poland and post WWII poland has some rather different territories, that might have something to do with the changed percentage of mountainous terrain.

The problem is that you were using the modern map and nowadays Poland hase more mountains than then (Sudets). So - that's why.
