Hey ordinary film maker, I had a dream about the R1 since at least January 2023 with the specific release date for the mass public. Since January 2023, I've known the R1 won't be released til September 2024. I remember vividly someone asking, "Are you going to get the new R1? It's on TV!!!" And I laughed, and said no thanks as I picked up my R5. The Canon R5 is still all I need to be happy. To those that want the R1. Enjoy the ride!!! 😂😂😂👌🎉🎉🎉

Simon as you are talking it all makes sense. The R1 is Canon biggest announcement ever since the introduction of the EOS R. So it's obvious that the R1 would have its own separate event. The R5 is just an upgrade and the others can't compete with the R1's hype so it's probably clear to assume R1 tomorrow, everyone else, next week.

I always thought the R1 should have its own event. Not sure if tomorrow wis the event, or just a dev announcement. Just keep an eye on social media posts and videos.

I don’t know, to my mind the introduction of the 5D mark II when they introduced movie quality video was the biggest ever announcement and sales certainly followed. Hey day of the DSLR but still the R5 mark II could be huge. The flagship R1 will certainly demand a lot of attention but appeals to a much smaller group of pros by comparison. Just imo

Well . . . based on heritage alone, the R3 mk1 is truly the R1 with the wrong label on the front. So whether we call it R1 or R3ii, it's likely the very same camera.

@@billmartin1663 that doesnt make sense. The camera has mixed card slots. All flagships have 2 slots for the fastest card available. It is just a mirrorless 1dx3 for the most part not a huge generational leap.

Nice !!! Even tough i Will probably never buy a r1 its fun to see what Canon bringa to the table and tech that Will trickle down on cameras more for me

I don't think this is the canon R1. I think it's something stupid like "Canon Coin!" Which will be Canon's own crypto currency that you will have to buy to unlock their Cameras' extra features.

I was talking to Craig about this. There are wild rumours about an R6C, which would deliver on that FX3 like camera. Sadly, I think its just a rumour.

I've developed some very good sources recently Jenna. Got another update to this coming out later tonight - scripting it now ;)

If this is the R1 announcement is it a full announcement or a development announcement? If a full announcement I would suspect being able to pre-order. Do you know the exact timing of the announcement? 5 a.m. EDT on May 15 for example.

Just got an email from Canon Australia, it's the R1. Marketed as being in development with new image processing system and advancements in image quality and auto focus.

I recently bout an EOS R5 for my business. I also shoot an R6 MKII for events. I'm waiting on purchasing an R5 MKII for a while. I don't really need it but I'm excited to see what upgrades it has.

My question all along has been . . . how do you adequately differentiate between the R1 and the R3? If it's a relatively low-res camera like the 1Dx and the R3, how do you call it a whole new model? Then, does the R3 go away? Or . . . is the R1 some kind of monster that's clearly outside the 1-series heritage? (Still hoping for the 45MP stacked R3 . . . er . . . the R1!) Can an R1 come in with a 45MP sensor? (And if it doesn't . . . how does the customer base react?)

Until we know the specs, its impossible to know, but I suspect the R1 will be the best of the best in Canon's line up for sports and fast action photographers.

30 mp with quad pixel AF, better AF algorithms, markedly increased readout speed, and better noise performance would be a big increase over the R3. Particularly with a buffer increase and an increase in FPS.

Give me a 30MP R10, quad pixel AF, slightly better noise performance than an R3, and 40+ FPS with AF and a slightly larger buffer and it'll be mint! Particularly with them driving the R3 price down, the R1 is probably gonna come in at a similar price as the R3 when released.

Curious if Canon will make a video cameras to compete with the Sony fx3 and fx30

Canon had to have an event before the big Fujifilm event in Sydney. But it’s an impromptu, last minute announcement, so 🤷‍♂️

I assume a source would know better than to divulge more information than they are willing to risk. Why would they rely on the outlet to protect them?

Sources often give me more information telling me what is off record. I also give them a copy of the script to approve before recording to ensure nothing slipped by. Some only give the bare minimum and use a fake email.

Interestingly, Sigma says they have a big announcement tomorrow as well. Doubt it’s related though, as I’d imagine most of those that buy the R1 will only use Canon glass.

Be careful Simon! Slovenia is no stranger to alternative facts .. it’s a lovely country with nice people where we spend a great summer holiday, and they have world class cyclists.
