BREAKING FOAM! This Is How We Fix Our RC Airplanes.

Ойын-сауық

After learning about the activated power of Gorilla glue to combine with water to form a foamy glue that is very close to the foam that makes up many of our RC Planes we decided to conduct a few experiments to see how good it can get. We learned just how good it works and that a little goes a LONG way! This is now our Go To method for Foam RC Air Plane repair.

I do this but run a strip of packing tape over the outside seam before it expands. Makes a seamless repair

@@tomkowalsky works great and stronger than the surrounding foam. I repaired a timber x fuselage that broke in two in a crash. It held so good that the next time I crashed it breaking it in two again my repair held and it broke 2 inches away 😂. So it’s repaired again and getting ready to fly again after some spackle a repaint and night timber x decals I ordered. Also the fuselage aft of the cabin is weak. I filled a section with great stuff foam. Not much added weight with much more strength

@@tomkowalsky if you don’t wet the gorilla glue to accelerate drying time it doesn’t foam as much. Where I live it’s always 50-100% humidity so it gets moisture to cure it takes longer but less expansion. Also to get kinks and wrinkles out of epo use a household iron medium to medium low with a sock on it. It will expand and correct the foam back to its original state. Just be careful and don’t hold itit too long

Hot glue is stronger, quicker, cleaner and only takes 2 minutes (tops) for a stronger than before repair.

We would agree to disagree. We have used hot glue in some of our repairs, but found it tends to melt the foam away. Heat and Styrofoam are not always great friends. However, we find the activated gorilla glue to be more than adequate for our repairs and has not let us down yet. But rest assured, hot glue is in our toolboxes

Any idea on the best way to seperate two pieces of foam that have been glued together? Ive been using an exacto knife but its cutting too much of the foam out, its a tail section of a b25 im trying to get to a bad servo.

People have been known to employ an electrified thin wire to have a laser like affect and cut through foam. I think you should look into something like that. there are lots of KZread videos, and I don’t think it’s very complicated to do it all. It’s basically like a tablesaw for foam lol.

What do you do with the cable sheaths sevos in the fuselage? I crash with turbo timber evo and should split the fuselage to glue cable sheaths in place.... And that's not so easy like you show....

I think my Delta rate is quite different. It broke in a place that did not affect any servo mounting at all, so I was able to make the repair that I did. Well, rather, I broke it in a spot lol.

After a quick fly , God knows what I did, it crashed. Broke tail off and smashed the front . I fixed with hot glue. I think the problem is the foam is crap. I have another plane with the softer foam and it's pretty much indestructible. Cant seem to find activated Gorilla, But then i am in Australia a real life example of time dilation 😊

I think you misunderstood. You use regular white gorilla glue activated by spraying a tiny amount of water to make it foam.

Whatever works for you but we don't aim for fast we aim for GOOD. We don't care for hot glue so much as it is harder to work with and less fudge time to align your parts. But respect, whatever works for YOU is what works. Happy Landings.
