Coccaro appears to certainly have gotten done wrong there. What I also picked up from the highlights is that he missed 2 clear opportunities. One was an open net in the 12th minute where he chose to wait until the defense recovered. Then on the play where he got fouled he couldn't put away a 1v1 with the keeper and then didn't pull the trigger when he had an opening on the cutback. He hesitated and then got fouled instead. He was also responsible for Miami's first goal by jumping into his teammate who was in position to head the cross out. So 2 clearly missed goals and one he gave to the other team. Is this his typical way of playing?

Tiny cameras that could attach to the inside of the post or underside of the crossbar, maybe behind a plastic screen so as not to change the shape of the woodwork, would do the job nicely. Not too expensive.

@@brucemcintyre6088 They had cameras in goalposts years ago. They gave a better view of these, but they were never completely accurate because they couldn't stay calibrated exactly on the goal line the entire game. Just a millimeter off and you'd have a very misleading angle to figure out. Think the offside line angle we're always trying to account for but worse. That said, it would help with clear and obvious calls but when you got down to a couple inches it wasn't helpful. Not sure why they went away though other than they were sponsored and the sponsorship stopped. (?)

@@jomarzan For goal line tech: Only 7 leagues in the world use it. There is a substantial cost to it. It requires a series of cameras throughout the stadium which may not be possible with some current stadium designs. The multi-use stadiums mean added costs and hurdles to overcome in order to have them set up properly on a weekly basis. For offside tech: The opinion is split as to whether that's good for the game. It's not as accurate as they initially claim and quite frankly is against the spirit of the game. As with above, it's also very expensive and requires a lot of cameras around the stadiums. Can’t call the Lima handball and not the Gregerson one imho. It’s the exact same, except the ball is headed towards the goal on the Gregerson incident, which should make it more obvious. Both players have their arms down but elbows bent at 90° angles. Ball hits both in their forearm/hand. I agree with you, but MLS oh so loves the term "clear and obvious." The main ref didn't call the goal, nor did the AR, so play continued and we weren't award the goal. Even if a VAR review was initiated, there were no camera angles that proved that it was "clear and obvious" that the ball went over the line. Analyzing the video deeply to show that the ball probably did go over the line is not clear nor obvious, so there isn't much we can do about that. It wouldn't cost all that much to stick a GoPro or something in the woodwork to avoid this in the future, but alas, MLS would rather make so many shitty refing decisions that they have a weekly show to go over calls and specifically told the broadcasters not to call out officiating mistakes on air or provide their own opinion. City has been shafted in the past by bad refing decisions and will continue to get shafted in the future. All we can do is accept it for what it is.

Way too expensive for the few times per year a goal decision occurs that VAR can't resolve. Last I saw, Hawkeye would cost MLS in the neighborhood of $12-15M to install and $1.5-$2M to operate per season - there are better uses for that money. My guess is that they'll live with what they have until they're forced to install semi-automated offside with a ball that transmits its position.

Never going to happen. Last I saw, the IFAB-approved Hawkeye tech costs over $300K to install and $50K/year to operate per stadium (and I'm assuming it can even be installed in portable goals in multi-use stadiums). No way owners are going to cough up that kind of money for a handful of decisions that can't be resolved by VAR. If MLS ever goes to semi-automated offside with the ball that transmits its position, that will probably make GLT obsolete.

I think he knew it too. 3:33 Copetti's PK: Did you purposely keep cutting that last angle so that we couldn't see the full play? Some would say you were hiding something to paint a picture or it was just bad editing. 3:52 Eneli's Handling: It appears he was off balance because the attacker gave him a shove.
