I don't know why people think complex song sequences are useless, it is the only time we get to see why complex is seen as desirable and why people are selling and killing each other just to get into it. If it was not shown people would've said the director showed everyone is obsessed with complex but didn't show what they're obsessing over. It's a double-edged sword.

I was awestruck and in disbelief while watching KALKI 2898 AD The quality of film making is something that other industry will take some time to achieve. @@Devine_wave screw the reviewers. Movies work mainly on word of mouth!! I have told all of my friends and families to watch the movie. Sad thing is that the movie is way ahead of its time. Inside the theatre I noticed that most of the people was viewing their mobiles or yawning during first half. They are so used to watching action movies like Salaar, kgf, RRR, etc that their attention span is very less. I don't agree to the point of lack of emotional engagement I think Nag Ashwin deliberately didn't present the negative stuff in a heartbreaking way because its the end phase of kalyug where negativity is at its peak and things like deepika being thrown in complex by her parents etc. so character's way of looking at negative things and portraying is more subtle than being dramatic, because of the threshold of seeing negativity and reacting to it is changed.

Disha - did not like this character. BUT....Her addition I believe was not just a romantic interest. Yes it took take us into the Complex world which was necessary as the political dynamics there was quite interesting. The second was that in the engine room she mentions the power source of the Complex and this essentially becomes a weak spot for us in a future story when/if the Complex is to be destroyed. Currently we know she is inside and her joining the resistance is very possible. Dulquer - We believe he is alive. It must also be noted he also acts as reverse foreshadowing for Bhairava as Karna. As Karna was abandoned (Bhairava found in that pod does not remember or know his parents) . Adhiratha - foster parent of Karna himself a descendent linked to Krishna. Deepika - respectfully disagree. Deepika character Sum80 world is based on a little box. Her emotions are therefore contained in a very smallnarrative until she finds herself part of a bigger purpose she does not understand. She is also painted as very sheltered..not understanding marriage or Sex (implied). She walked through the fire - reflecting her strength and power. Her power was discussed by Ashwa uncle - when he said God does not give such a responsibility to someone not strong enough. She herself possesses something unique and powerful as a vesself for Kalki. Lastly when she grabs Manas shoe I think she herself demonstrated hidden strength. I believe beyond the Mahabarrata references in popular culture she is actually to be something like a Sarah Connor. A very well written and beautifully portrayed character Raia - really believe many things woke up in the interval and it was destined for her to cross paths with Ashwa Uncle so I believe she herself is a weapon or figure that has been awaked. Any one has any theories I watched both Hindi and Telegu versions and I felt the Hindi dialogues were not good and the subtitles were poor. But Telegu was perfection

  • @subhAjitDin

I completely agree with you on the Roxy thing. That was indeed a foreshadowing of damage to Complex. Regarding Dulquer, He may also portray Parshuram as some theories suggest, but I have a feeling that he may be someone else. Not every angle can be similar to mythology. We may also see Dulquer as a commander of Yashkin. Sum-80, I agree on your points. I do have a theory on Raia, Kalki is supposed to be the 2nd coming of Krishna, as shown in beginning (I'm not going by Kalkipuran here). Then Raia can be the 2nd coming of Radha (Sounds also similar). Also Radha was older than Krishna.

There is one more problem with these critics, since it is a south movie and shows our culture, they intentionally project and highlight flaws. Try.. try and be fcng considerate for once in your goddamn life. Yeah you are all super intelligent, you got the first half more so that it got you bored but there are many people who don't have any clue about what this film is about. It's for them. World building is the first half and due to which the second half felt so good!! If at all the first half was quick and the other way around, you would have all judged that the characters got wasted and all and so on. Again try to be fcng considerate for once in your goddamn life

Nagi already announced that God is banned in this place of Kashi, so expecting emotions is where we are missing the core concept. Emotions are shown only from the people of Shambala and everything is mechanical in Complex. So I would request all reviewers to first understand the motto of the narration. Nagi is a very deep thinker and he executes everything with his soul, story is in the era 2898 still expecting emotions sounds silly.

So this is an assessment made upon watching similar films in the theatre that have a high concept like Kalki... One is Furiousa and another one is Dune... Fabulous stories... Consistent tonality... Excellent visual treats... None of them worked in India. I understand the point of view of both Jammy and Anupama Ma'am that the first half could have been more investing FOR THEM cause they have been exposed to World cinema along with having an excellent educational background and intellect. Not everyone in India is privileged enough to have the same. I believe Kalki is working so well at the box office because of the first half... Nag Ashwin being the genius understood very well that he needs to make the film extremely accessible for the audience at least up a point so that they really feel the impact of story telling in the second half... It's complicated to explain but sometimes human beings actually get more invested into things when it's way below their comprehension level.

I think Amitabhji carried the movie and in a constellation of superstars; the movie ended up revolving around him after meandering in search of a centre. He effortlessly makes himself the centre point of the movie; helping Prabhas (no small guy himself) along the way to establish himself. As for Prabhas, the trend is that he always comes alive in the second instalment. Baahubali 2 was much superior to Baahubali 1, for instance. While the curtains are only being drawn in Kalki 1, the second instalment will be exhilarating. I mean, Kamalahaasan got about 10 minutes screen time in total! This is a movie that has to be consumed on the big screen instead of OTT.

@@rudrajitroy4721It’s called character establishment and world building. That is why you are so hooked in to the second half. Not everything should’ve twists and turns. A sense of mental fatigue will set in if you ever write such a story. And also Indian movies are of 2:30 to 3hrs long. Hollywood movies are plot oriented movies. So they cannot be more than 1:30hr to 2 hours long. But Indian movies are mostly character driven. So they can organically develop the world and characters. No need to rush unnecessarily.
