Every homestead should have a stack of those beams. I can see so many uses for them!

Howdy Brock! Believe me... I know how you feel. They call me "70% Steve" since I tend to get a project 70% done and get distracted and start another project. I’m bad about finishing one project before starting another, same as you. I’m also bad about putting tools away, they end up on the work bench or the table saw. Oh well, we have fun!!

You're trying to save money and you're doing a darn good job of it. And those beams are going to be stronger than anything you would have purchased. Excellent job Brock.

Good morning Brock. As I was watching this video, I kept thinking to myself, "Is sure would be nice if Brock had an air or electric hammer with a blunt bit in it. That would have taken all the time consuming effort out of it.". Thanks for the video. I always look forward to the next one.

As other's have suggested, my 1st thought was Air Hammer. Those are also heavy and creosote laced, so, cutting them on the sawmill in to 2x or 4x beams would be ok, but the sawdust is toxic, but once cut they will outlast us! With regard to lots of projects, it's even harder for us folks with 1 tractor, having to switch attachments to complete a project. I tend to make incremental progress on several projects that use the same attachment (bucket vs. brush crusher; or rear blade vs. backhoe) otherwise I spend too much time changing attachments. You having multiple pieces of equipment makes it SO much easier to make progress!

There’s lots of people out there just like you. I’m roughly the same age as you and I get big eyes for projects and opportunities all the time and jump headlong into them, only to shift gears later. I think I’ve gotten better at heading those off over time. I think. I also think your growth and loyal base probably has a lot to do with how much common ground there is between us and those aspects of yours. Keep up the great work!

Sometimes you can be a little hard on yourself Brock. No one is perfect on getting their work done. I'm really good at getting projects to about 90% and then I tend to move on to my next one. :) Congrats on the son graduating.

I think that a saw mill shed is a great reuse for beams that many people would discard. Using what is available beets spending lots of money in my book most of the time!

When I first saw those beams I thought - There's your way onto the island. Pushing those joined ties out (much too heavy for tractor to lift the long way by one end) on top of your existing cement pilings would have made the perfect bridge - at very least a temporary one you could use to get machinery out there. Looks like you've already got something planned for them. If you really want to see a mess add livestock to your operation... you will really be interrupting every project you do at certain times of the year. Thanks for the Video!

The short beams might make good decking for your bridge you’re planning for the pond

No body is perfect Brock. I think we all leave messes from time to time and start a new project before finishing the last. I try to keep things as organized as possible, but it always seems to fail at some point.

I'm a mess also. Have to or three things going at the same time. But I have managed to learn to put tools up as I go. Didn't always do that but it's nice to always know were my tools are now

Good morning Brock. Stop putting yourself down. What you do is just as important as anyone else. Just look around you at what you've built in a very short time. Lazy? Oh,hell no! Sorry for the indiscretion but it seemed fitting. You work basically 7 days a week to turn out great content and educate a lot of people including me. Sometimes I think that you work too hard. Congratulations to your son on his graduation. This world needs more people with your work ethic and maybe it would be a better place. College doesn't make a person smart, learning does. I am not as organized as I’d like to be either but at least stay busy doing things I enjoy. Also, I think salvaging those old beams will pay off in the end.

Brock, I would be using a hammer drill in the hammer mode and you could probably even use a small diameter piece of rebar in the chuck to knock that steel out.

I, too, usually have multiple projects going on. Bounce around. It is my schedule to get things done. To me it is smart to repurpose the timbers. Why waste them

I'm really good at buying parts and supplies for projects but taking forever to get to doing them. But once I start, I'm usually pretty good about finishing them in a timely fashion. More than anything, it being too hot and humid or cold and rainy is the real motivation killer.

Can you drive the rebar out enough to make a bend? Then hook a chain to it. Drive the skid steer on the beam to hold it. Then trying pulling rebar out with the mini skid steer?

You sure need an air hammer …. They come in so useful sometimes. Even ripping metal. Got mine at Northern tool (Ingersol Rand) for a little under 100.00… of course they’re probably 200.00 nowadays. 😅

I would have used the skidsteer to pull out the longer pieces of rebar...easier on the back

Do you have a hammer drill.... i find it works to use a big long concrete bit and the hammer on a concrete drill to drive those out.... if you don't have an air hammer/chisel

Brock I've always had the thery of work smarter not harder if you can take the nuts off of the Rods on both sides of the rail beams then attach a chain to one side and lift the Rod out of the beam with the skid loader or the tractor 🚜

Should have left the bars in the beams and formed them for equipment hooks.

And old saying. A clean organized desk is a sign of a sick mind. So as all those things around you are more or less your desk. You do not have a sick mind. You have lots to do and not enough time to make everything straight and organized.

Of course they don’t. I didn’t say anything like that I said that one constructed beam, weighed about 5000 pounds. The constructed beams are three layers thick and made of multiple pieces. They are 28 feet long, 3 foot wide, and 18 inches thick.

@@RockhillfarmYT Sorry, I heard it wrong. Are those Douglas fir or white pine? The incisor marks on them indicate that they would be one of those two. I produce that sort of product in southern pine, but incising is not needed.

@@80club45 the difference between a KZread Video and the airport is that at the airport somebody has to announce your departure There is already plenty of negativity in the world. No reason to add to it. So basically if you don’t like something… Then don’t watch it.

5/18/24.....salvaging huge, old, Creasoated RR Bridge Beams ~12"x12"(?) is no easy task no matter what skidsteer you have. So Brock congrats on having this mighty fine wood, but as you can see, it aint like working with residential/commercial dimension lumber. Also you are working alone, so yup, you will sweat today buddy...but stay with it & you will get what you want. Oh yes...your blades on chain saw & band saw...get ready for an ugly, sticky mess which may require you to stop, clean...or completely remove/replace them...until finishing the cut. Yes the wood is good, but this will be a lot of work. Stay safe & carry on!🪚🔧🍺👍
