When I learned of the Zadorov deal I could not understand why...then remembered all of the scuttlebutt about McAvoy's game being diminished without the right partner. Effectively, FLA neutralised Mac; people were posting up and asking whether he was hurt. Imagine McAvoy and Zadorov. Mac plays his game; Zadorov his own...they complement. Now, ya have HLindholm (D) playing his game on the next pair. Remember how well Lindholm played when Mac was down? That same dynamic plays out with ELindholm (C). CCoyle now slots between 2nd/3rd based on matchups. That makes 2 & 3 better.

Meh. I mean Mc's always been reliant on comfort and playing with guys he likes playing with. It doesn't particularly have anything to do with quality. He's played his best hockey playing beside guys like Gryz and Reilly. Where he's struggled playing beside Lindholm. I don't think Zadorov is going to be his pairing. They'll play together some sure. Because Charlie plays a lot of minutes and plays with literally everyone. But I think you'll see Mc's pairing stay Lohrei when he's in the lineup. Zadorov probably pairs with Peeke. Pairings don't super matter. Because like I said guys rotate while other players stay on the ice. But I'd suspect bottom pairing but top 4 minutes (which I'll go on the record saying isn't a good fit for Zadorov who was 6th ATOI for both Vancouver and Calgary he's over slotted at 4). He'll probably be second PK pairing also with Peeke. Some games when you want to be more defensive and you slot Wotherspoon over Lohrei you might see Mc play with Zadorov as his pairing but that would be my expectation. It being the exception and not the rule.

Excellent addition to the team

Zadorov is a massive upgrade over 4'10" Gryz. Lindholm gives us an actual #1 Center. Like the Jones signing big, tough, and fast.

I fear we may have overpaid for Lindholm. If he doesn't put up 65/70 points per season over the first 3 seasons and 60/70 the rest then it's another bad signing. Pasta should boost his assists but we need goals from him too.

@@frederickorcutt9112 I don't think we did. And production doesn't really matter for us. We've proven that year over year. It's not how many you score it's how many more than the other team you score. Lindholm drives possession. He keeps the puck away from the defensive zone. That should improve everything. It gives your cycle game more chance to work which should improve team offense. It gives you defense less time to struggle in their own end which should improve your team defense. With your defense getting less warn down they should give your more quality minutes and prevents which should make your goal tending look better. I seriously don't care if Lindholm only produces 20 goals and 55 points. As long as he dominates possession that's what our team is built around, that's why he was the perfect fit. That's why the Bruins paid him.

@@frederickorcutt9112 I will say that even if we did overpay lindholm, it wasn’t by that much. Dude was the best free agent center available and he is VERY good when able to play his game to the fullest. Worth it in my opinion.

I like the Lindholm and Zadorov signings. But the Bruins really need one or both of Fabian Lysell and Matt Poitras (& Merkulov?) to come up and score 15-20 goals. We NEED scoring forwards in the top 6. Jones and Tufte are bottom size guys with good size, but (according to their stats) not much offense to add (Heinen put up more points than both of them). There are too many 3rd and 4th line guys. Where is the secondary scoring after Pasta and Marchand? Coyle and Zacha had 25/21 goals and DeBrusk is now gone.

To be fair you shouldn't expect a 4th liner to put up the points of a top 6 forward. That's unreasonable and Heinen played most of his shift in the top 6. I don't think it's realistic to expect any of your Providence guys to make the top 6. You are going to switch Zacha from center to wing (considering he lost his center slot in the playoffs to Geekie anyway that's not a big loss) you are going to slot Geekie up into the top 6. Slot Brazeau into the 3rd line (he was on pace for over 20 goals if he can replicate that you'd be very happy). You are going to hope Poitras continues his development and builds. You'd love to see at some point during the season him and Coyle to swap slots. Having Poitras as 2c and Coyle as 3 but that would require a lot of growth that's not really reasonable to expect from a kid who played half a year before getting shut down. Kastelic and Beecher are 4th line locks. The last slot will be up for grabs between Brown, Lettieri, Tufte, and probably 1 or 2 internal guys. Nelson or Kuntar might challenge for a 4th line role. Secondary scoring isn't the issue and never has been. Frankly DeBrusk produced like a 3rd liner for us. Frederic, and Geekie had virtually identical production. You slot either of those guys up and give them his ice time they'll likely out produce what he did last year. The top 6 should probably net you more points this year, and with guys slotted more correctly come playoff time we should have less issues. Lindholm wins draws and drives possession even in the playoffs. Which is something that fell apart for our team last year with Zacha in particular.

On the right line E Lindholm can be a 40 g per season AND be a 200 ft player. Works both on the wing as well as a center.

On a magical combination he's done that once he was on pace to do 33ish one other time in 4 years as the primary center between a perfect pair of wingers to facilitate him scoring a lot. 1 elite playmaking winger, and 1 elite puck retrieving physical winger. The chances of that ever happening again aren't high and even if they did he's not getting any younger there shouldn't be any expectation he'd be able to do that again. And you don't need him too so that's fine.

@@Plastpackad I'd be happy with 25-30 goals and 65+ points with top-5 Selke level defensive play. Elias is excellent at the dot, so we need him at Center his skill there. But he should absolutely thrive in Boston. If he can click with Pasta and Zacha, then we should be in good shape. And I'd like to see Coyle and Marchand on the second line with Poitras or Frederic. IMO, that would be a strong second line. Hopefully, Frederic/Poitras and Geekie together on the third line. I love the Zadorov signing. Especially for playoff hockey, he'll force opposing forwards to think about potentially getting crushed in the corners/walls and punished in front of the net. He makes the B's much harder to play against. Tkachuk and Bennett will get some serious punishment for their aggressive play style. Now, just lock down Swayman!

Just listened to his reaction about coming to the B's...he knew all about Boston and really wants to be there. Same with Lindholm. Personally, I believe he held out to be in that scenario...what he embraces. They both want that stage.

Lindholm isn't a #1. He's a #2, two way guy, that doesn't always show up. Zadorov is a 3, borderline 2 defenceman. Great guy again he can't play too high. Blows up a few guys a game, gets walked a few times a game.

Last season it was a few million on several players (who did quite well). This season it appears they went after a few specific players with many million. How do ya make McAvoy's game better? How do ya make Pasta, Marchy and Charlie Coyle's game even better? I believe the team addressed- hopefully answered -those questions. Hence, targeting these players and staying on it.

Wish we could have gotten Draisaitl instead. Still great moves, though I hate losing DeBrusk.

The B's now have 3 d-men who can move the puck out and get involved in the offense, whilst maintaining defense, size, and checking. However, each has to be paired properly to afford their game to play out. They can now get the puck out and get involved with the offense on each pairing. Lohrei is one of them. And good on him for that.

Zadarov was weird when i first heard it, particularly after i heard we might be targeting Brady Skjei, & Zadarov is a lesser(though super different)kind of defenseman.. But then i look and see we paid Matty Grzelcyk almost $4Million to sit for us in the playoffs and it seems like a great deal tbh..

(Continued) On Lindholm, the average term made 7 years pretty much unavoidable(as well as 6 years on the former big Z)but as far as money and term goes, i cannot see how the Bruins didnt get SIGNIFICANTLY better than they were in June, & do it in arguably the most efficient way possible given the free agent class(and available trade possibilities) Lindholm was clearly the best option at the position for fair money,imo Again, Brady Skjei is the better player but look at his contract and Zadarov seems like an awfully good deal..

Not saying I don't like Zad, but would have rather seen the money spent up front. The loss of Debrusk and Heinen's scoring, which wasn't enough as is, needs to be replaced somewhere.

I still don’t see how anything the bruins have done makes them more competitive than they were last year. In 12 seasons in the NHL, Lindholm only scored more than 20 goals in four seasons. Debrusk scored more than 20 goals 3 times in half as many seasons The one missing piece was another consistent goal scorer. And now they won’t have the cap space to do anything that impacts the team’s prospects for 2025. I’m baffled. To me this is looking like a worse team than we had last season.

Right now the roster is loaded with Centers and we just drafted a Center so to me Lindholm makes no sense. Marchand is 36 and as it stands he is slotted on the 1st line and if we lose Debrusk Brazeau is our only Winger plus whomever Sweeney picks up who won't be a Top 6 Winger in his prime. It is not Sweeney's fault because Jeremy Jacobs won't spend big money to get a guy like Sam Reinhart It would be great if the Jacobs family just sold the Bruins but they won't because Delaware North is a concessions business but if the Cs build their own facility that will be a big hit to the Jacobs family. Maybe they bail then but until then they are not going to give Sweeney the green light to build thru the draft which takes time instead they will have Sweeney go get a guy like Lindholm and spin it to the uninformed fan base that Lindholm is equal to getting Reinhart which it is not.
