Ben revealed in an interview that his son's doctor recorded his heartbeat and they used it as part of the drum beat and in the intro to the song. Rhiannon (his wife) is also singing on this.

This is the song that represents the end of a battle. When you listen, you feel the calm after the storm. The relief knowing that the fight is over, the joy of victory and the melancholy of what was done to achieve it.

You said exactly how I feel. This album came out the summer I graduated high school and went to college. While my high school experience wasn't all bad, I left with alot of bad blood between many people. College was a lifeline where I was able to start (for the most part) fresh.

+Jay I personally feel that both Dark and Dawn are the best songs on the album not in spite of its lack of lyrics, but because of it. As much as I love the rest of the album and the bands work as a whole, there's just something about the pure, raw emotional feel of these songs that I find so appealing.

Earlier this year, I spread the ashes of my baby daughter after three long years. Fast forward to now, and I bought tickets to see their concert next week. I haven't listened to them in years, so hearing this song was a shock. Who knew that after letting her go, I'd hear a song with her name as the title, featuring a baby's heartbeat? I started crying. This song fills me with light.

The order of the songs on this album is literally Dark Before Dawn. At first it's Dark. Nothing seems right. He feels lost, with nobody to guide him. He feels like a Failure. Because at times, even the Angels Fall in pain and sorrow, with their wings broken. But then, it's time to do something about what he has become. It's time to get up Breaking the Silence. Because even if love has left his soul Hollow, wounded and seemingly impossible to be fixed, he is still hoping that one day he will reach Close to Heaven. Although things will Never Again be the same as they used to, he decides to live, fight and move on, as he crosses The Great Divide, possibly the invisible line that separates his previous, dark, sad and painful life from the brighter future he is hoping for. And as he wakes up and realises he had lost his way and is willing to find it again, he raises his eyes to the sky, asking if God is still with him, after everything he has done. And Ashes of Eden is born. Because now, that he has found his way, he can no longer be Defeated. The sun of a new era is rising. It's the Dawn.

Failure - represents him wanting to tear the world due to his shortcomings, Angels Fall- is him not giving up or giving in, breaking the silence- is him saying what will destroy the world wont get to him, Hollow - is him staying alive, not wanting to fall or let go, Close to Heaven - things could become too much and he wants to come home close to heaven Bury Me Alive - He's in his madness, suffocating inside, asking someone to bury him alive Never Again - He realizes the error, never again will he suffocate, he'll make it through. The Great Divide - He waits for faith to come to him, so he can cross a great divide between him and society Ashes of Eden - Continues to wonder about faith and if he is worthy of seeing god. Defeated - Realizes despite not feeling god, he can stand alone, not letting things defeat him and let him suffer Dawn - His son's steady heartbeat, what Ben can listen to for getting past the suffering.

It took me two years to find this song on KZread and then looking at the comment section, I was amazed how the song echoed within me for such a long time, without knowing the background of this song. Two years ago this song played on my car's radio, it was just weeks after my baby daughter's birth. That was also the worst year of my career so far, but then I found the courage to move beyond, it was my Dawn, and I was No Longer Defeated. So long, Failure, Never Again.

I don't know if anyone else knows this but, the beat that you hear at the beginning of this song is actually the sound of his son's heartbeat before he was born and his son's heartbeat is the beat of the song. The voices you hear are Ben and his wife Rhiannon. His son's name is Benjamin Burnley V, (he was named the same as his father Benjamin Burnley IV, continuing a family tradition/legacy) and born November 2014, and he is the one and only that they have had, but also the ONLY child that Ben has ever had. I found this out by watching some interviews with Ben. Also on the front cover in the eclipse Ben merged his son's sonogram in to the picture.

This song makes you think. Just something random. A good feeling, a bad feeling. Something great or terrible. It makes your mind go to a place you love, or hate. It makes you love everyone, or miss the lost. For me, it makes me think of my best friends funeral. He was only 13 and a truck hit him on his bicycle. Bad things happen, my friends. Life is nothing but good and bad mixed together to form un-breaking bonds between us. To build us up, to break us down. To show us the love, laughter, and joy, or to show us the hatred, misery, denial. The only thing we can do is solider on. Soldier on through the agony, the pain, the suffering. Because, at the end of our perseverance, we find joy, and happiness. We feel loved, and nothing can ever take that away from us. Just something to think about. :)

Most of you guys won’t believe this but I’m fine if you guys don’t ... back in January 15 2020 I was in the ER because I always had a problem with my heart ratings . It would beat too fast which made it hard for me to breathe and get light headed. I was in the ER for 3 days to find out I had to go to another hospital with the type of procedure they were going to do on me. I’ve always been a breaking Benjamin fan ever since I heard Evil Angel and diary of Jane on a Spotify mix. When I left the ER I went to my car and started listening to music when all this song came on . I’ve never heard all Breaking Benjamin’s albums but when I heard this one I began to cry. Knowing that my life to be over in a matter of days, not knowing what to do, I was scared and alone. I began to pray for forgiveness to god for everything I have ever done wrong. I cried like a baby in my car, maybe it was the jolly spirit talking to me telling me everything was going to be okay.... I had my procedure done in February and ever since I’ve been better than ever now I’m living my life to the fullest and pray every single night and most time when I’m going to eat . As of today I just found out that the song has Bens sons heart beat into the rhythm of the song. Honestly it touch me knowing it was a sign. I just wanted to right this because no matter how scared you are or even sad about a lost one don’t worry .... you will see them again maybe not now but soon I promise 🙏

My mind is so sad... I've been writing this series and I just got done with the 12th book. The story follows a boy who used to live a happy life until he was 12 in which demons attacked his family during an annual reunion. Almost all of his family was killed in front of his eyes including his mother and his father. He becomes injured over his right eye and is infected with a kind of parasite that lies with his soul and feeds off of his mana. The parasite usually turns its victims into demons and takes full control of the body within a minute. He is shortly found by a group of people who belonged to a different "world" who claim to be part of a large corps named the Spirit Warriors. These people take him in and teach him to be able to fight against the very things that killed his family as well as treat his wound. On his first mission, he was to do recon and they fell into a trap. The man who saved him and taught him the difference between justice and vengeance as well as the difference between a hero and a villain is killed along with another person who helped him train. He then goes looking for "heroes" who are described within a prophecy. He finds the first one who was a part of the Demon Tamers. The two grew a bond and became great friends. Eventually he find a ritual that would remove the parasitic demon that haunts him. In the process of removing it, the demon materializes and escapes all the while cursing the boy for denying its meal. The boy finds himself wandering the streets of another world 8 years later and finds a woman of unimaginable beauty. The two meet and eventually marry. The boy then refuses the call of the Spirit Warriors and lives for 3 years in peace and happiness with his wife. That peace was eventually disturbed when word of a demonic invasion was underway on the boy's world. He fought once more and had to heed the call of the Spirit Warriors once more. Another year passes and he moves his wife into the timeless world that the Spirit Warriors dwell on. He continues the battle and the hunt for the heroes of prophecy. He finds another within an alternate reality of our world in which women were not allowed in the military. One such woman who enlisted in the military disguised as her brother, caught the boy's attention and was recruited. Once again, the two bonded, but the woman was to accept that a relationship between him and her would be impossible. In time the boy found that he had gotten his wife pregnant with twins. He swore to hook and his wife that no harm would come to them, even if it cost him his life. The boy found another hero within a futuristic reality who had been plagued with a demon just like him. The boy purged the from and recruited the man, promising safety of the man's wife. The two returned to the Spirit World only to find that they were under attack by a greatly organized horde of demons fighting under the banner of a Lord Sholl. The Spirit warriors fought bravely, but found themselves out matched. They had to retreat, but that retreat came at the cost of their prophet (the leader of the specific division in the Spirit Warriors). The boy gained the respect of those that survived and was chosen to be the High Prophet of the Spirit Warriors. The loses were great and morale was low, but more troops were waiting behind the base of the boy's division. They continued their fight, winning battle after battle thanks to the boy's leadership. The boy eventually returned home to find demons burning it down. He made short work of a few, but a couple got away. He rushed inside to find his kids in the closet beneath the stairs, but no sign of his wife. A scout reported to have found the boy's wife in the hands of the demons. Against the judgment of the Council of Ancients, the boy pursued them, but arrived too late as a familiar face severed his wife's head in front of his eyes. The boy, fueled with bloodlust, sought vengeance and found the power of his ancestors, which he used to destroy everything around him. Though there was much destruction, the demon responsible escaped and terrorized the boy even more. The boy fell into a depression and thought only about killing every last demon he faced. His friends were worried about him and did everything in their power to bring him back. 5 years pass and they finally had a breakthrough. They reminded the boy of his kids who were now old enough to go to high school in our world. He remembered his oath and remembered the words of his master of vengeance and justice and rose out of his depression. Not 2 years later, his daughter died by the hands of the child of the demon that continued to haunt him. The boy chose to teach his son how to defend himself against demons. They worked and battle after battle, victory and defeat they endured. The war had gotten to a stalemate in which none could win. The demonic leader, Lord Sholl, sought out artifacts of a dead demon lord. After collecting these artifacts, the war turned around and the demons pushed the Spirit Warriors to the golden city which fell under the demonic horde's might. The boy chose to fight this war alone after unlocking more power given to him by his ancestors. He faced the horde alone at the town center and held them off as civilians and other Spirit Warriors escaped. His son did not do as was told and joined his father against the demon lord and its horde. The boy's son died under the weight of a collapsing building, killing the remainder of the horde, but leaving the boy to burst into rage and kill the demon lord. After rebuilding for 10 years and allowing the demons to live alongside the Spirit Warriors a rebellion erupted within the Spirit Warriors. The boy was removed from command and was forced to gather forces. He successfully regained his position after 4 years of building. A year later another rebellion broke out among the demonic population. The golden city was eradicated and a large amount of the population was vaporized. The boy took the rest of his forces and led them against many priority targets until he was able to attack the demons on their homeworld. He found the first hero who had find missing and he explained the disappearance of the boy's best friend. I'm the search of his friend he found the source of his problems. A great enemy who called itself The Void. The boy created a tool called The Foci and absorbed the power and consciousness of The Void. It spoke of a greater threat called the eldarri who sought the destruction of all life who did not serve. The boy continued his search and found the demonic rebel leaders as well as the friend that helped him since the very start of the boy's career in the Spirit Warriors. The boy killed the leaders and killed his friend so that he would no longer suffer the corruption that had been inflicted upon him. The boy then sought these "eldarri" and found later that his family were descendants of the demon lord that he killed and that the deal that was made was with these eldarri. In other words, he learned that he was partially an eldarri because of the deal made. He set out with the heroes of prophecy to destroy these eldarri. The one who was one cursed with a parasite became possessed by the power of the eldarri and turned on the boy. With great pain, the boy fought his friend and killed him. While fighting eldarri forces, they became overrun and had to retreat back to their world. In the process, the first hero was caught and was killed before the boy could get to him. The boy moved on his own to kill the eldarri and win and told the Spirit warriors the war was over. He then sought out the last of the eldarri and killed it. He then returned to his home in which he looks over all of the things he had endured in his life and whenever I hear this song I feel all of the sadness and pain that the boy feels. Long explanation, but absolutely worth it.

Call me naive, but it is my hope that one day, the last soldier will receive the final orders to stand down, and end every single fatal fight humanity has with itself. True tears of joy will be shed by billions across the world.

That feeling when you just close your eyes to enjoy the music, and after "Defeated" this comes, and that heartbeat... I thought for a sec, that it's mine, and suddenly had to open my eyes.. so just wow, unbelievably great song.

When I’m listening to this song. I imagine me in a field. With 10 year old me laying on the ground, Lifeless. And me now standing beside him. And when the voices in the song start to harmonize, I see the sun rise over the tree line. As a way to say goodbye to my old self, goodbye to my childhood. Goodbye Gabe.

My interpretation is probably not shared by many, but I feel somber when I hear the intro of this song (before the vocals enter). I picture being on the top floor of a high rise apartment sitting in the nook of a windowsill overlooking the city, and on the surface it appears I have it all, but ultimately something is still missing.

Dark before Dawn, it's the truth, There is always a dawn after darkness in life, I don't care if I had a bad day or something happened to me, I never lose hope of being able to start from zero, and reflect about all things. I believe in the return of a new dawn in this life as in the same way the world, and seeing the darkness disappear. [darkness before the dawn - Breaking Benjamin].
