Breaking Bad News - The SPIKES tool for DOCTORS

Ойын-сауық

One of the most difficult things doctors do is give patients bad news. Almost all specialties have to master this skill. Even if you choose not to pursue a career in medicine it is likely you will have to give bad news from time to time.
The SPIKES framework is an excellent tool to aid doctors in this task. Dr. Rich Hilsden describes the SPIKES tool in this video and discusses a case where giving bad news was particularly difficult.
Another great video demonstrating many of these skills can be seen here

I love your stories. They really help illustrate your points! This is helpful in my own life, even though I don’t work in medicine!

I am talking about this in a presentation today. It's in relation to port wine stains in babies.

If you can offer an opinion: my ex died of esophageal cancer. He had never smoked, although his father add but he spent very little time at home due to work. My ex did have GERD for years. But some say it was the Agent Orange he was exposed to in Vietnam. I’m just curious. Obviously have no financial gain so no worries there. Might help our boys some. Thanks!

GERD certainly is a significant risk factor for Esophageal cancer. For many people reflux is the only symptom / risk factor. I can't say anything about Agent Orange. I am sorry for your loss here.
