Milescraft is one of my favorite brands, they make the coolest stuff.
Being from Czech Republic, it's always nice to hear that someone outside CZ, even Europe, recognizes the manufacturing history of CZ. There's less and less such companies that have the history and we must appreciate every single of them. Just a tip on the pronunciation of the "c" letter, it's always "ts", not "k" in Czech. So, for example, Vaclav is "Vatslav", not "Vaklav" 🙂 Thanks for all the tips, it's always nice to see a new video from you in the feed.

Ahoj! That's really good to know about the pronunciation! My Girlfriend and I are studying Czech in preparation for our trip to Czechia in the Fall, and we did not know this. Thank you. ( as you can see, my name is Czech, originally "Pijacek", and we are going to the place of my ancestry in Moravia). Cheers! BTW, we thought the "c" with a ^ over it was the way to indicate the "ch" sound.
I’m a few weeks in with my Sawstop CTS (first table saw). Had to tune it a bit but it’s working great now! Thickness planer coming tomorrow… eventually I’ll complete the holy trinity with a jointer. Thanks for helping me with getting everything setup with all of your videos! If you ever head over to GR let me know. I work at the big brewery there and would love to buy ya a beer as a thanks. 🍻
I’m drooling over the chisels. But I hardly ever use chisels and I have a cheap set. It doesn’t hold the edges long. But for the one or two times I use them, takes seconds to sharpen b4 use. It’s hard to justify buying something so nice that I don’t use much. I learned the chisel sharpening technique from Stumpy, it’s super helpful. With a Diamond stone, I can get it razor sharp when I need to use it (even with cheap chisels).

The Richters are actually worth every cent even at the current price. I got a six pack when it was about a hundred bucks cheaper a couple years ago and I feel like I robbed Taytools at that price. They do sell them individually if you want to ease into the cost, though. Maybe pick up your favorite 2 or 3 sizes over time. Treat yo'self.

Got mine in May 2020 for pennies under $100 on Amazon. I agree...worth every penny.
Love this channel. Always help to see a craftsmen take on problems. Thanks for the ISOtunes hook up.
Great video. I have the "other manufacturer's" Grabber pushblock and completely agree with your evaluation. If anyone has ever grimaced when pushing a sketchy piece through the saw blade, this tool will give you greater confidence in the cut. It really is great and falls into the category of "cheap insurance". I also have the DustRight vac adapters and the Narex chisels. One caveat I have found concerns the DustRight hose. It is super-flexible and stretchy. So, when it's connect to the shop vac, the small adapter causes some restriction and the hose collapses on itself. So, I use a different hose with the small adapter. I have used all these tools daily for years with great success and don't regret buying any of them. Thanks.
I ordered those grabber pros. Two of them to be exact, the second I saw you walking a piece on the table saw, I was sold! 35$ a piece is great, been thinking about getting some sort of block for a long time.
I've had the DustRight system for quite some time and while they work as advertised, the adaptors loosen up over time and need a hose clamp in order to be useful for any portable application. they stay well enough on stationary tools.
Great round up just before Woodworking Season! I especially value your comments about various tradeoffs. Good tools like these can do many things - but not everything. Knowing the limitations before you buy is invaluable.
Really great, thank you. I used a small contractors jobsite saw for decades, but I am now 67, and I don't feel quite as competent as I did at 30. This puts me over the top on getting a Saw Stop. I also checked out your previous myth buster on the SawStop. Also Great.

I'm 67 too and have been a carpenter forever and so been using a portable saw all this time. I couldn't afford a Saw Stop so I just bought a Delta contractor's saw. I LOVE having a solid shop saw now! (the saw stop is also to large and heavy for me since we are renters and may have to move it now and then. Plus the Delta is on wheels, which is great for my small space).
I had started looking for Random orbit sander's dus ports not 3 minutes before i got to the Dust right adaptor section of the video. If nothing else, you saved me a lot of time.
My woodworking slows down a bit in the winter. Canadian winters are cold as heck in a poorly insulated garage.
The Richters really are top notch. I don't regret that purchase for a second. Don't feel any worry about clicking the link and snagging a set. There is no better value on the market, IMO.
hadn't thought about the CPAP factor for battery based power systems. my wife needing to use a CPAP severely limited our camping options. I've thought about assembling a power supply for it, and as I said - didn't think about it when these hit the market.
Thanks James for the great COOL TOOLS today and all the great info about them. We appreciate your channel so much. Fred.

Thank you! You always make great Cool Tools videos, but today you really addressed something I've struggled with fixing. The shop vac adapter! It's actually not long ago I asked about it in the comments to one of your videos. This kit could not be shipped to my location (Norway), and the UK version of Amazon didn't have it. But now I know of this kit and I will look around for it.

I've had the flexi kit for a short while, the hose is somewhat heavy and the coiling is stiff to the point it can pull a small sheet sander off the bench. Any suggestions out there, do I need to break-in the hose by stretching it out to the limit and keeping it extended for a couple hours to help relax the wire coils?

Same with my skilsaw that has R&P fence. I have not seen the price for this, but I am sure you are paying a lot for the tech. If you need a portable saw I think I would just go for a cheaper one like the Dewalt or skilsaw.
At the risk of interfering with Stumpy's affiliate bucks, Rockler has the Dust Right hose kit for $20 (50% off), for the next couple of days. I've had it for a few years and use it all the time - love it but that hose is heavy. Not a deal breaker though ... the adaptability is fantastic.

Cool stuff James. Thank you.

You are a video machine! And the best thing about them is the quality and consistency from a small, family run business that I like to support.👊🏾
Thanks for the reviews. Happy Holidays!
I'm currently using an early generation Dewalt contractor saw I got for free and that SawStop pretty much has every feature I would like to see mine have for regular use, including the actual cartridge. I cannot justify the cost to buy one (several thousand here in Canada) but if I ever get another table saw it a SawStop is the only choice. Really other companies should be working with them to get the cartridge into more saws, and if they ever release a system to retrofit an older saw I would get it in an instant. In the meantime that GrabberPRO looks like a great safety upgrade for my workflow with smaller pieces of lumber.
Thank you as always James; it's not just Cool Tools, it's Drool Tools.
I got that dust right adapter a few months ago, and good news!! It works for the Triton Router (MOF001), which has a notoriously hard to fit port!
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!! I have been looking for a hose adapter for my different tool ports. now I have one!!!!
Thanks for the Cool Tools episode! SawStop was paying attention to the Dewalt portable table saws or re-licensed from same supplier. Fence system and saw table seems nearly identical.

Dewalt has one that has many of the same features, including the fence system. It looks like this one copied those features. The Dewalt also has the ability to accept dado sets. This one has some advantages, mainly the safety features and the zero clearance ability on the blade without having to make your own inserts. The build quality on this one may be better too, it's hard to say from the video.

@@kstangent but the DeWalt doesn't have the safety system... For me personally, I'd rather have the added safety. The job site pro saw that sawstop makes can take a dado set but the compact one is too light weight to safely stop the dado stack fast enough. There are also other saws with the same style fence, not just DeWalt.

I like the added size of the rolling one (the Jobsite model). But they are both capable saws for light work if you do your joinery with a router table.
That little sawstop looks awesome. I love the fact that it uses trunnions. Not having to change that table insert for different blade angles is huge. Not supporting a dado stack wouldnt bother me at all. Never used one. Always used a router if I need a dado.

@@williamstead6354 Better look at some of the reviews on YT. Whether this thing will work for you depends on what you plan to do with it, some people are happy with it. The two issues that have me worried: 1) No rail in the table for crosscut sleds or feather boards. 2) It uses a proprietary fence system, that some have found to be something of a pain to set up and maintain in alignment. The rack and pinion and flip fence are taken directly from the Dewalt range of jobsite and benchtop saws. I'm a huge fan of those features. On the Dewalt, you don't have to rotate the knob to move the fence; instead, grab the fence and push it left or right. It works smoothly.

you can improve any hardened tool by cooling it down, even just putting it in your freezer helps but not as much as liquid nitrogen temperatures and you can do it at any time, even years after initial hardening. It's just pushes the hardening process past where most would stop at.
I am quite new to the woodworking hobby. I am beginning to stack up some basic power tools, and I have around 15 m^2 of space for the hobby. And I mostly work with hardwoods. Will I be sorry to set a SawStop CTS? I want a table saw to build into one of my worktables. Cool video and I like that you emphasize safety :D

If I was only using it in a workshop, I would want a more robust model. But if you are very limited on space, then a portable saw may be your only option.

@@StumpyNubs but seriously...if the red mug isn't for drinking, what is it for?? Now I have to know. I remember your video about replacing the definitely-not-a-beer can coozie.
I know you don't work for those companies, but when you take the time to explain the features and how it works and you explain the draw backs, you really make a person feel as though they need that tool. When you explain the negatives it seems like you're just showing the limits. Those are some excelllent tools. Hi James, while you have that CTS there have you by any chance checked the table for flatness? The Dewalt version is definitely not flat so I'm curious? Tnx for the great channel!

I have one and it is not flat at all around the blade. I emailed customer support and they don’t guarantee any sort of flatness. But for a sled it should be good enough.
Yeah, those chisels are the shiznit. And I agree about the Yeti, though I need my bigger size because I drastically dilute my coffee.
I 100% agree with the vibration gloves. They were a game changer for me, I have nerve damage from frostbite. The ISOtunes I didnt care for. I thought the audio quality was poor at best. Fortunately they are a good company and give me a full refund.
Hi Stumpy I appreciate your channel and do respect your professionalism but I miss the humor of days gone by. I purchased the sawstop job site saw (thank you very much) but before purchasing it, I contacted the company and ask them if they had arriving knife to be used with a thin curved blade. They said they didn't recommend then curved blades with their saws. It's my assumption that it has to do with the breaking forces. Maybe it's different for that new compact saw but I thought I would mention this. Keep up the good work and I hope the characters of days gone by are still in the shop.

Hi @@jaysimmons2319 It may be a difference in the saw models. If you contact Sawstop again I'd be interested in their reply.
I love these videos!
James, I bought a Sawstop cabinet saw when I retired in 2014. Over the years I've done tweaking and cleaning to keep my Sawstop running as efficiently as possible. But after nine years of hard but loving use, the time as arrived for a more thorough Sawstop tune up. It isn't practical for me to haul this heavy machine to an authorized Sawstop repair shop. Do you know of any table saw repairmen who can/will make an onsite visit to my home in Dexter, Mich. to carry out a complete tune-up? Thank you, Dennis
Anyone know where to get that hose kit (or similar) in Europe? Amazon won't ship it here
You hide your coffee cup behind a coffee cup? You are a savage.
Curiosity question. The hand over hand technique at 2:00 when using two push blocks, how would you compare that to sliding one block back then the other one using a "walking" technique?

Do whatever is most comfortable for you.
Do the vibration gloves come in other sizes? I can't seem to find them on Amazon.
thanks
As a 30+ year professional, I wish I utilized the anti-vibration gloves prior to carpal tunnel surgery in both hands & multiple elbow surgeries in both arms. They work incredibly well & I wouldn't be without them even now. Also, while the Richter chisels are nice for the money, I wouldn't necessarily claim that drop forged chrome-moly tools are a measure of old-world quality craftsmanship.
Well, that takes care of MY Christmas list. 😊
Curious about your thoughts on the Sawstop CTS fence flex when fully extended. 731 Woodworks did a good video on it. Did you experience any of that? Your videos are always super helpful, especially those showing how to safely make challenging cuts. I owe you a drink for all the dumb cuts you saved me from trying!

I saw the video where there appeared to be lot of sag in the fence rails at full extension. It seemed to me that the cams on his fence rails were simply out of adjustment, based upon a video Ron Paulk about his. (kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z5-brsGwetzRfdY.html) I am not sure why the SawStop rep did not explain that when he called, but the saw did just come out and it is possible the rep wasn't familiar enough with it..... Keep in mind, this is a portable table saw. It is not going to be as rock solid as a cabinet saw. (I don't have a Dewalt, but others have said that there is some movement in it's fence at full extension, as well, which does not affect it's accuracy.) That's one of the compromises you make for a less expensive tool, and you should consider that before making any purchase. I found the accuracy of this saw to be consistent with the type of saw it is, and apparently, so did Ron Paulk.

@@StumpyNubs you’re the man! Thorough and quick reply. I have the Grizzly G0870 that allows Dado Blades, has a rack and pinion fence (like the SawStop and Dewalt), is variable speed, and has some other useful accessories like a disc sander attachment. I’m always surprised that more haven’t reviewed this table saw. For a jobsite saw I’m pretty impressed.

How does the Sawstop's dust-collection compare with that of the Dewalt 7491 or the larger Sawstop jobsite saw, which have a small dust port up on the blade guard as well as down below on the shroud? Did Sawstop offer any reason for not putting a blade-guard dust-port on the Compact while offering it on their larger jobsite saw? Its lack of dust collection is the only reason I'm thinking of upgrading my 8" Delta Homecraft.
@StumpyNubs
Жыл бұрын
Any saw that has a dust collection hook-up on the blade guard itself will perform better. However, the people who tend to buy jobsite saws (contractors) are the least likely to leave the blade guards on, so it is often a moot point... I think SawStop opted against upper dust collection so they could make a guard that provided higher visibility in the hopes that more people would leave it on.
@timromano7085
Жыл бұрын
@@StumpyNubs A shame they made that decision. Dewalt and Sawstop have reputation for precise/accurate cut rivaling "woodworking" saws. Jobsite saws are the only contemporary option for hobbyist woodworkers with limited shop space who want accuracy, dust-containment, as well as modern safety features like a riving knife in a compact package. Nobody makes a modern version of the 1950s-era entry-level cast-iron-table contractor saw that comes without wings and without a long cabinet-saw-style fence. It's jobsite or nothing.
@StumpyNubs

@@timromano7085 You'd be surprised how many people (not just contractors) say they remove the blade guard for better visibility (a total crock of BS in my opinion). Besides, for both lower and upper dust collection to work effectively on a jobsite saw I would think you would need two shop vacs connected.

MAKE YOUR OWN VAC ADAPTER: If you are in a fix and you need to hook hoses or fittings together, an old plastic soda bottle and heat gun can solve the problem. Just slip both hoses or fittings halfway into the bottle from each end and use the heat gun and carefully shrink to fit.
