The greatest story arc that this show has, is the increasing acceptance Joe finds over time. I never realized that even the first couple episodes are included in this theme. In the first episode, Joe's *house* is rejecting him. He didn't put it up for sale. And while we know Lulu's on again-off again contempt for Joe, even Gene finds a reason to leave Joe out of the crew. This carries into the end of season 2 where Joe and Nathan Min share that cup of crappy coffee. Nathan knows its bad, but the time was an olive branch.

, brings back memories. As a kid every Saturday my grandparents would take me to breakfast with some other folks from their church. The men all sat at one table and their wives across the restaurant at another. I’m the last surviving member of the breakfast crew. Even the diner is gone. Someday I will carry on their legacy.

Joe, Thank you for that fascinating fact about spinning cake cases. You're such a bright young man. If I tried to learn as many facts as you, my head would spin like a cake case! My grandkids would say I'd *really* lost it! Anyways, I tried leaving a recording on your answering machine, but the tape was full. I know you're busy working for that swimming pool channel, so I'll just call another time. xoxo Ruth

My hometown had a breakfast crew. All these old dudes used to meet at the donut shop and talk and have donuts and coffee. My dad said they had done it ever since he grew up back in the 70’s and 80’s. When dad drove me to high school, we always drove past them and they were always there for all four years, every morning around 6:30. I wonder if they still meet there. I haven’t gotten the chance to check since we moved, but I hope their tradition continues.
