No sir. It's about efficiency across the board. You have to have the whole kitchen and its elements from where the wire wisk and the half-and-half is located mapped out in your minds eye. Where you can basically navigate where everything's at blindfolded. Food prep is 80-90% of the work. The rest is just execution.

Whatever these guys are being paid......ain't enough! The expert level of cooking plus the flawless and almost silent teamwork IS WHY this restaurant is so busy! I agree with other comment they should be part of the tipping pool!

I went back and forth between cooking and mfg jobs when I was young, from working in a dish pit, to being a spot welder, to being a prep cook, to being a riveter, then finally being a line cook at a breakfast centric truck stop. Every step I got a little faster, every job the pay got a little better, eventually was offered an apprenticeship in a commercial printing job and that became a career.

2nd gen chef in my family, spent 25 years doing this up and down the east coast. I miss my people. On a more serious note, guys....think about your long term health, line cooks have high rates of COPD later in life, from all the oil we breathe . I'm almost 50 now and can say it's a real concern
