    Also, the Braves are absolutely printing money right now with the Battery. They have a massive incentive to keep this team winning because it turns out the fans/crowds and keeps the revenue climbing. So, while I never would have expected them to go after Shohei I can see why they would, because the amount of revenue he would bring in through their marketing/sales operation would probably still end up providing them a cash surplus against his salary.

    They're also spending money like no tomorrow. Braves are spending $200mil on the new 250,000 sq ft. Truist Securities headquarters, which is currently being built across the street behind home plate. They also have possibly in the works "The Henery" which is a two tower venture, one being upscale rentals, another is a hotel with small retail shops, along with a bridge crossing the street just outside the left field part of the stadium which would cost millions to build. So people have to remember that. when thinking about the Braves right now, and their funds.

    @@MassBoostthat building will also be leased out. Truist Securities has already signed a fifteen year agreement for half the building with the option to lease more space as they grow. That building will pay for itself in less than 10 years.

    @@pjbuma13 Right, but they aren't going have an instant return on it as it takes time to recoup that money spent, and they won't even start seeing a dime of that return till it's done, which might be next year. And like I said, after that they might be starting up yet another project which may cost hundreds of million, but not exactly sure, as I read it might become a joint venture. Then there's still the fact that they have debt on the original construction of the stadium and the Battery, not sure how much they still owe, last I know it was around $600mil.

    @@MassBoost having debt doesn’t mean you’re not making money. Especially now that they are a publicly traded company. I understand what you’re saying that they will owe so much money but the amount they make off of it monthly will be higher than the cost of paying back their loans. It’s like buying a new house and then renting it out for more than your mortgage.

    @@pjbuma13 I never once said they weren't making money, I said they were also spending money, spending on things that aren't the team. I mean it's just like anyone else in society, you can have a job that pays you a million a year, but if you have bills to pay that consume three quarters of what you make, you may not have a lot to spend. But yeah, year by year they should slowly be making more and more money, and the debt will eventually be paid down. I guess what it comes down to is what Terry McGuirk has waiting in the pipeline? And maybe they're close to paying down that debt? I can't wait till 2027, because then they can also get a much better TV deal once their current one runs out then. The future will indeed be very bright

    Ha looking back in this now, 700 mil for Shohei, and a AAs wizardry of Sale ended up being very intriguing. I dont think Alex is the type to mess around with Boras, and apparently thsts been a pattern for the league. Vaughn definitely deserves the playing time he will get in Boston, and Sale is really happy to be in Atlanta, and the healthiest he's been in a while. Looking forward to seeing how it all pans out!

    What I don't see a ton of people mention is how good Atlanta's hitting coaches are. They've been able to improve the hitting approaches of a lot of guys over the years, and a number of players we traded for at deadlines the past few years are living proof of this. Soler, Rosario, Duval, Grossman, etc. All experienced some form of better hitting after Atlanta's hitting coaches gave them a good look. If you can apply the same kinda thing to Kelenic, you've got yourself what is potentially a really good bat for dirt cheap on the trade market.

    AA has said that the luxury tax isn't a problem for the Braves. The real budget limit is the cash expenditure they're actually spending with salaries and luxury tax and everything else.

    The luxury tax isn’t a problem but the real limit is the salaries and luxury tax and everything else? I’m confused is it the luxury tax or is it not the luxury tax? I think the Braves don’t care about the luxury tax as long as the contracts they give out are reasonable and they aren’t overpaying players. As long as the salaries match the players actual worth to the team both currently and for the life of the contract the luxury tax is not that important.

    Braves fans are pumped for this trade. Low risk, high reward for just taking on bad contracts. If he doesn't get traded he'll be the utility guy but I don't think anyone truly expects Grissom to stay with this team very long after this trade.

    I actually do. I said this before they even let Eddie go and started talking about Vaughn in LF, I think they trade high on Ozuna and get rid of his salary and then use Vaughn as the DH. You could still do that with this trade and if you want to platoon and use Kelenic vs righties and the Grissom vs lefties. And On the days Vaughn plays in the field you could DH one of the catchers.

    @@pjbuma13 I'm not sure Vaughn fits the DH role as more of an OBP guy but I can see them wanting to save money on Ozuna. Kelenic actually had better production vs LHP last year so platooning doesn't make sense if his L-R splits continue. I can see them keeping Vaughn for UTL/DH if they were to trade Ozuna but the outfield platoon seems like AA hyping up his value now that they have their presumed everyday LF.

  • @pjbuma13

    @pjbuma13

    @@acgonzales7 yeah I think the stigma of the DH needs to hit home runs or slug a lot is kind of antiquated. They have some many guys that slug already just getting on base and being a pesky base runner is all they need from him even if it’s in a DH role. I do also like him in a utility role but I don’t know that that nets him a lot of playing time.

    @@fliplife67 Kelenic produced a 108 wRC+ last year, and has more upside than that as a former first round pick taken at 6 in the draft. The Braves have haven't had over a 99 wRC+ in production in left field since the 2018 season when Acuna last roamed the left field, so a guy who produced better than that, and is only 950ish plate appearance into his career will likely be an upgrade to what the Braves have had over the past 5 years.
