Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This KZread channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.

Just wanna give you a hug Rick. As tough as it might’ve felt on the course filming this, I gotta say the value this is to so many of us watching is huge. It’s not always rosey, it’s a tough old game and that’s ok. We all have them - some more than others (me) but it’s the response to it that’s more important! Am loving seeing your journey and I’m sure you’ll be back sub 75 in no time! You got this 💪

I hope Rick knows how important this content is for beginner and intermediate golfers. I’m sure it doesn’t feel great for him, hitting double and triple bogeys, but it really is inspiring to see him not give up and get that illusive birdie to finish! Thank you, Rick! Your spot on the list of most influential golfers is well-deserved!

Much respect for counting that double bogey on hole 1. Most golfers wouldn't have counted it. But you realized you were aggravated and rushed it, but still held yourself accountable and counted it. This is the content I like to see. As aggravating as it is for you, it reminds me to keep my cool like you when I struggle. And remember, there's guys like me that would kill to have a round like that out there lol. I would suggest that rather than having golf lessons, Rick looks towards a sports psychologist. Over the last few Break 75 videos, there have been a high number of "sighs" and "arghs" after hitting shots and missing putts. Rick obviously has the talent and skill to hit under 75 as we've all seen before, but it would appear that his own head gets in the way of his game - as it does with us all! Good luck Rick and come back stronger in the Spring

Honestly, I was thinking the exact same thing... It almost feels like he's trying to hit a shot NOT to miss, rather than just hitting the shot he wants to (if that makes sense). Kinda getting in his own head without trying to, or "gripping the stick too tight" as we'd say in hockey when a guy is trying to get off a goal scoring slump. I feel like he just needs to relax a bit and just go hit the shot, nothing more. Just let it ride, so to speak, and see if things change up a bit.

These videos of Rick struggling are probably the most useful to us regular/beginner golfers. I have been working really hard to improve my game and I have noticed a lot of improvement, but then yesterday I really struggled on a course that is definitely too difficult for my "beginner" skill set. I knew this going in, but the round still had me down in the dumps. Seeing this video today, of a PGA professional also struggling, needing to make changes to his game and finding it hard for those changes to show on the course, just lifted my spirits and is giving me so much hope and determination to keep trying. Thank you, Rick. These videos are gold to so many of us and if your goal is to help normal and beginner golfers, then you are 100% doing that here.

This is a solid reminder that building a shot at the driving range doesn't automatically translate to the course. It's one thing to hit a shot off a level patch of ground in ideal or almost ideal conditions...it's another when the slope may have you higher or lower than the ball, when there are visible obstacles and distractions downrange, and when the object is no longer just hitting this specific style of shot, but trying to string a sequence is shots together to reach a specific objective. Keep at it, Rick! Your double-double start is the way the majority of my golfing goes, seeing you push it aside and score par on the next few holes is great inspiration. And it was also comforting, in a way, to see that I'm not the only one who has "meltdown holes", where enough goes wrong that you end up +4 or worse on the hole. For years, I could practically bank on one for every nine holes I played (so if I played the full 18, I would have at least two, and sometimes three). I consider it a major breakthrough that I've been able to cut it down to one on a full 18. I did notice, though...Rick, you spend a LOT of time talking about how bad this shot was or how bad the hole was or how bad the round is. That feeds on itself, in my experience...the more you dwell on stuff going wrong, the more goes wrong. And that mental aspect of the game is probably the hardest thing for people to get a handle on, and probably one of the biggest differences between casual golfers who have an occasional good round and golfers who are consistently good. Give yourself some recognition for what worked the way you intended and the holes where you did well. Positive thinking may not make you a better golfer...but it can certainly help prevent you from making yourself worse.

I don't know why... but this video just hits differently. Three minutes in and I can relate to everything Rick is going through. Silent course, autumn leaves on the fairway... Good stuff! Production quality is on point. Rick looks like someone I would want to play a round with.

Thanks Rick for coming back with Break 75. I love watching you play and I know that you’re struggling right now. Please stay positive, know that we’re all rooting for you. Other then a few holes your swing and overall game does look better. It’s a process as you know, to take your golf range swing to the course. Good luck and thanks for posting your videos, they’re fun, informative and a pleasure to watch. Kelly from Winnipeg

I haven't watched these in a while, but going through my own swing change torture i thought I'd give it a go and loved it! That swing on the 3rd par three was pure, controlled and class! Given I havent seen the swing in a while you can see the difference 🤟

I absolutely appreciate these videos Rick. I’m trying to break 100 and I’ve been getting closer and closer but I just had a couple really bad rounds that completely messed with my mind. It’s hard to think those positive thoughts when you’re playing poorly. Just gotta keep grinding and finding the positives

Good way to break 100 is to give yourself an extra shot on each hole that way a par 5 is a par 6 and par 4 is a par 5 do this on every hole and it takes the pressure off making pars and birdies and you will soon get into the 90s by taking that pressure off yourself mate cheers 👍

It's great how he let's you in his head, he shows you the ugly, doesn't sugar coat it....to see someone of his stature struggle is inspiring for a person's confidence in golf, seeing someone's FULL process an not just the end result. I shoot in the 90s but a month ago i was 120s lol....I put a golf sim in my garage an have been playing alot (started playing a year ago) Rick's content has helped me alot with not just mechanics but strategy and mindset.

Thanks for showing us this journey Rick! Not that we want this for you, but for us experiencing similar ups and downs in our game, we still learn a ton from you! Maintaining your cool, trusting the process and still remembering to have fun with it is in my opinion, a huge part of golf and we appreciate you walking us through it all. Can’t wait for you to bounce back and for us to see it soon! Keep at it mate!

Im currently only 16 minutes into this video and i already want to say that i can see the progression of putting the first 2 holes behind you and focusing on playing the next holes, i see less anger towards yourself and more confidence and concentration on the next holes compared to previous videos lately. This is something i want to work on next year, i dont want to take a bad hole with me to the next. Fair play RS. Now to finish off the video

I like how transparent and honest Rick is being about his golf I think when he plays with Guy he struggles because when Guy offers Rick encouragement it adds pressure and Rick starts to question himself "why can't aren't I playing good shots" instead of adding more focus and concentration on his next shot, which is needed. I think it's a distraction. Rick is a legend though and followed him from the start, seen him a couple of times on the range Trafford & Burnley.

I have a lot of under-par rounds when I am playing frequently during my season. But currently have not broke 75 in my last 7 rounds and 4 of those rounds have been over 80 since the end of Summer! This game is tough and nobody likes playing poorly, especially me! Your struggles are relatable to everyone, but there's nothing but RESPECT from me because you are documenting your effort to improve. My game will come back in the spring when I am practicing and playing. But until then, lets writhe in our anger and passion towards playing better

Man can I relate. I'm new to getting lessons, because I felt like my swing wasn't conducive to getting my game where I want it to be. I am changing almost everything in my swing and the struggle is real. It is so refreshing to watch a guy who really feels ( and knows) he should be hitting better but isn't, and I can relate. Rick keep up the videos for those of us that need the motivation to keep grinding. I love the fact that these videos are so true to real life. Thanks guy and Rick, you guys rock.

Rick you’re doing everything as a coach you would advise against. You’re going for the perfect shot when there are higher probability shot choices available. You’re putting the pressure of a round in the 60’s with the ability to shoot in the 70/80’s (you can shoot in the 60’s, this we all know), but start the round with hopes of the mid 80’s and then you can have fun when you shoot a 79… this positivity will lead you back to breaking 75 and maybe 70 once more. Every issue with your game right now sits between your ears. Stop playing like you’re trying to qualify for the tour… stop playing like you’re trying to impress millions of people (you are doing just that regardless), start playing like you just want to have some fun, remember it’s a game and you’ve made an incredible living PLAYING the game you love. Get back to that headspace and the rest will follow. We love you either way. PS. A year and a half ago I watched your 3 part how to fix your slice series. From that day on I went from a 18+ handicap and now I’m proudly at a 3. This is in part because of you and your content. If you could help me as tremendously as you have, imagine what you can do for yourself if you simply just “coach” yourself!
