Brazilian GERMAN FOOD in the BEER Capital of BRAZIL!! Blumenau, Brazil
🇧🇷 @rio4fun

With both São Paulo and Curitiba now in my rearview window, my adventures in Brazil continued in the city of Blumenau! Join me as I try some outstanding Brazilian German food in the country’s beer capital, Blumenau, Brazil!
Blumenau was founded in 1865 by German immigrants and is famous for its epic Oktoberfest.

Unfortunately, we were months from Oktoberfest, but I could still explore the local Brazilian German food and beer culture in Blumenau, Brazil!
Our time in Blumenau began at Bierland, a microbrewery about 25 minutes outside of town.
Inside, you can also see all the beers they have for sale, as well as glasses, growlers, and canned beers. I got a stout and a Pilsen and bought two glasses for R$ 36.07, or roughly $7 USD.
Outside, I tried their light, crisp, and bitter 5% Pilsen and a light and refreshing espresso and chocolate-flavored 5.2% stout. It was a little milky and had notes of oats.
Then, we hopped in the car to drive along the backroads to the city. It’s a winding road through the hills and took us past lots of old, German-style houses. I hadn’t even seen houses like this in Germany!
We stopped at a German restaurant and beer garden named Senac Blumengarten. It’s in a large, traditional German-style building that looks like something straight out of Bavaria.
In the back, I started with a Capybara IPA, which was hoppy and not too bitter. Then, I tried their cloudy, creamy, and traditional Vila Weissbier, which transported me back to Germany!
Then, in the kitchen, we watched the cooks cook sauerkraut, white sausages, red sausages, pork leg, pork cutlets, mashed potatoes, a creamy mushroom gravy, and more. The aroma was outstanding!
Outside, we had our Brazilian German food and beer in Blumenau, Brazil. We had sausage, German pasta, schnitzel with creamy mushroom gravy, fried pork leg, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, and more.
The traditional white sausage was very juicy and smoky. I loved it with the sauerkraut. The schnitzel and mushroom gravy was sweet and outstanding! It’s some of the best German food I’ve ever had, and it all paired extremely well with my beer!
The pasta was grainy and super tasty with the mushroom sauce on it. My favorite thing about the sausage is that it was fresh and wasn’t industrial at all. The fried pork leg was crispy and fatty, with lots of juice inside.
From there, we headed to the Germanic villa, a sort of plaza where they hold the only Oktoberfest in Brazil. I love exploring other cultures within a new country!
This area is the main German center of town. They had lots of Christmas decorations on the fairgrounds there. It reminded me of old-town Frankfurt! I’d seen this type of architecture in Bavarian cities like Munich and Nuremberg.
I also visited a souvenir shop where they sell lots of Oktoberfest-related merch from hats to glasses to clocks! I bought a glass and three T-shirts.
Then, we headed to another brewery called Alles Blau Bierkneipe 15 minutes away. Inside is a bar area where you can eat and drink. I met Diogo, who showed us their bottles and bottling system, their beer-aging barrels, and their storage room full of bags of malt.
We also saw their four-barrel system and massive fermentation tanks! I tried a light and crisp session IPA from the tanks, and a fruity, passionfruit-flavored sour. Then, we visited the refrigerator where they store their kegs.
I finished up by trying their brand new IPA, which was light on the bitterness, a little cloudy, and had a very nice head. I loved it!

Many cities in south of Brazil have influence of Germany and Italian culture. Most of the population is descended from the first German and Italian settlers who arrived in the late 1800s. There are still descendants of other ethnic groups such as Czechs, Poles and Ukrainians in a smaller percentage.

So sad to say you missed Pomerode. It's a tiny town next to Blumenau. It's lovely: there is a china factory where you can buy very cheap, breweries... But, the main attraction to me is a chocolate factory called Nugali. It's 100% Brazilian and the chocolate is unbelievably good.

lol at 22:43 you've filmed my neighbour's house! Can't believe you've passed right in front my house haha 😂 I'm happy you've liked my city ❤️ P.s.: Also, I don't know if someone told you afterwards (and if this is the actual reason why they've named the place)... But, if I'm not mistaken from what I've learned in one of my past German classes, "Blau sein" (to be blue) it's a German idiomatic expression for getting drunk/for when everybody is over drank. So "Alles Blau" which literally means "everything/everyone blue", is an expression that means something like "everybody's drunk" 😆🍻 (I could be wrong though. If there's a native German speaker in here... Bitte sag mir Bescheid 😉)
@vetenksS4
3 жыл бұрын
Yep "blau sein" means to be drunk."alles blau" is something I've never heard in Germany maybe it is very region related but not sure-"Jeder ist blau" would be a the better term with everybody is drunken but not really used in the present form more as kind of story telling about it "Jeder war dermaßen voll/blau [das glaubste nicht..]".As little extra: "blau machen" taking a day off when you are supposed to be at work or school e.g. to sober up/no desire to do anything.
