My adventures in Brazil’s party capital continued with another incredible seafood adventure! Come with me as I enjoy some amazing Brazilian farm to table seafood and go sand dune surfing in Florianópolis, Brazil!
My morning began on the east side of Florianópolis, where they have beaches, sand dunes, and a beautiful lagoon. It’s no wonder they call this place “the magical island!”

The weather is beautiful and Praia Mole, one of its most popular beaches, is well-known for surfing. They’re also famous for their amazing food!
Guilherme, Rafa, and I bought some sugarcane juice with lime from a vendor on Lagoa da Conceição for R$5 and then headed to Dunas da Joaquina to go sandboarding. It costs R$30 for one person to rent a sandboard for an hour.
From the top of the dunes, you can look over the entire lagoon. Sledding down the dune was intense but so much fun!
Then, we headed to Joaquina Beach, a gorgeous, 5-kilometer-long beach that’s known for its surfing competitions! The restaurant there has tables with umbrellas out on the beach, so it’s a great place to have a meal!
I walked out into the water up to my ankles but it was so cold! Then, I got up on some of the rocks to get great views of the surfers. The water was a bit choppy, but I was in awe of this place!
Next up was Praia Mole, which is about 10 minutes away. Usually it costs to visit the beach, but since we would only be there a few minutes, the guy let us visit for free. To get there, we walked a lush path through vegetation to the sand.
There were lots of surfers there, but in the late winter, lots of models come to the beach! I couldn’t wait to eat!
Next, we drove 15 minutes to a ferry terminal along the road between the ocean and lagoon. The restaurant is across the lagoon, and the ferry runs every 10 minutes. We got tickets to go and come back and boarded the boat.
The boat was like a big, covered, motorized, open-air canoe. I loved the scenery. It reminded me of Croatia with the water and the lush greenery around us. We got off at the pier on the other side, where the restaurant is.
Restaurante Paraíso Da Néia is a simple, rustic restaurant that has been there for 40 years. They have big, wooden tables on a covered terrace and seating on the pier with no covering.
I tried a martini-like drink made with a Brazilian berry and vodka, as well as a sour and bitter cachaça made from a local fruit. It was strong but sweet and reminded me of Croatian rakija. The fruit was like a sour starfruit!
In the kitchen, I watched them make some fried fish, fried shrimp kebabs, oysters stuffed with braised crab meat and mozzarella cheese, grilled fish, and fried croquetas. This is the only restaurant with this stuffed oyster recipe! I was salivating just watching them cook everything!
We started with the stuffed oysters, which were hot and creamy and full of shredded crab! They serve it with blue sea salt for decoration. The crab croquetas came a pink Gulf sauce, which was incredible and contained tons of crab meat.
Next was our main course: fried shrimp, sole fish, grilled banana, rice, a fish stock gravy with manioc flour in it, and French fries. Everything is local and is farm-to-table. The shrimp had a double layer of batter and were thick and dense.
The sole fish was a perfect filet with no bones but a little dry. When you mix everything together in one bite, it really comes alive! The sweetness of the banana and saltiness of the fish pair perfectly. The banana was my favorite part!

We do the same sugarcane with lime in India, sometimes with lemon and ginger too. Wow, Florianopolis looks amazing, it looks like a nice place to retire.

Ginger seems awesome. We use to make it with lime (as you've had seen) and pineapple, which I think is way better than lime.

That fruit In that drink is called jaboticaba , it also grows in south Florida. It’s one of the most delicious fruits in my opinion, reminds me of a muscadine grape. Look for it in Miami 😄

Jabuticaba is native to Brazil. With so many Brazilians in Florida, it would not be surprising to find out that they took seedlings to plant there. This is normal. Another example is the orange, a well-known fact, with the Brazilian mother plant still alive and producing and that became a tourist attraction there.
The beach is just amazing 😻
I love Davids videos, you get to see the whole picture, always has good people showing him around. I think Brazil is incredible, food, beautiful beaches and people. My only worry is safety and if David is reading this id like to ask a question. How safe is it to tour? Keep up the videos, wonderful channel x

the crime rate in florianopolis and other south cities is actually lower than some major cities from usa, brazil is violent, but its not a rio de janeiro in every state of the nation

Oh my another adventure in Florianopolis Oh yes. Love this. What a great place to live. haha Sand skiing got to love that . that looks fun. As a kid I used to buy the big ice blocks and put a towel over it and go up on a big grassy hill and slide down it. THAT was insane and fast lol.. Sand looks safer than what I did lol though that can be dangerous to . Cant beat the beach love the water the waves over your feet. All this you worked up a big appetite . I love sea food so would love to taste all that. Beautiful day there. Wonderful adventure David ;)

Even though it's very touristy, Joaquina is my favorite beach in Floripa. Joaquina and, of course, Campeche island, which is one of the places in Brazil that look like the Caribean.

Não é o estilo de lugar q o David gosta de explorar, parece q ele gosta de explorar mais culturas regionais como artesanato, comida de rua, vilas, restaurantes tradicionais do local.

hey there, David. unfortunately, one month after you visited, the Lagoa da Conceição was hit by a terrible environmental disaster. the breaking of a barrier pumped huge amounts of sewage water into the Lagoa, and thousands and thousands of fish and other aquatic animals were killed in the process. it is an ecological calamity right now over here at Costa da Lagoa :-(

Todos que não sabem, recentemente aconteceu o rompimento de uma barragem de casan (provedora de água/tratamento de esgoto) na lagoa, (se quiserem pesquisar, é só digitar "rompimento barragem lagoa da conceição") e uma boa parte dela acabou cheia de detritos pela falta de cuidado da empresa, isso é algo que devia ser punido severamente, é triste ver nossa cidade sofrer essas coisas, assim como os esgotos em alguns locais que jogam na praia(como da pra ver na praia do surf), é um lugar incrível, com pessoas e locais e comidas incríveis, mas tem coisas que me deixam irritado de morar nessa cidade linda, principalmente a falta de cuidado... if you don't know portuguese, please put in the translator, the part that i quoted to search, search the way it is written in portuguese if you want to find it
