This was incredibly tough to watch and capture, never an easy thing to do. A small zebra foal got caught in a current while trying to cross the Mara River in Kenya. It was tired and not able to escape an approaching crocodile, one of the largest crocodiles in Africa.
The crocodile then took the young zebra into deeper water and was soon joined by several other crocodiles.
The mother zebra walked into deep water in an attempt to help her foal, but this was completely pointless as the young zebra was beyond saving.
Why share content as graphic as this? Well, the plight of this mother zebra was just too incredible not too. The way she risked her life, no fear, all to try and save her young foal, it was incredible moving to watch. Mothers the world over have this instinct, to throw caution to the wind, to forget about themselves in the face of danger. They would risk their lives to save their little ones.
From our side, there was nothing we could do. They were in deep water and the damage done from a single, crushing bite, would mean so much fatal damage to that foal from the moment it all began.
Also, we work in national parks restricting any assistance from our side.
I was there to observe, and now I am able to show you just how incredible these animals are!
