Braun Series 3 Battery Replacement

A video straight to the point on how I disassembled my Braun Series 3 shaver in order to replace the batteries. The model number is 350cc-4 but I suspect all series 3 models are built the same.

Thanks for this video! also regular rechargeable AA batteries will fit with a slight modification of the battery connectors (just fold the (-) connectors on the board‘s side to have a firm connection to the battery) - I used 2x IKEA LADDA batteries. All in all i think this shaver is pretty good to repair, just give it a try :)

@@AndiBraun93 you can indeed use the LADDA straight away! The (-) connector on the board just needs to be bent over one more time to be used as a minus connector for your battery, thats it :)

Fix & Fika, thank you for a great instruction. Although I broke the rubber/plastic cover while trying to pull/peal it off. By the way, did anyone noticed that Cleaning station stops working when battery quality drops? So, no matter how well you charge your slightly depleted/old battery, cleaning station won't work anymore. I throw away my previous cleaning station thinking it was not functioning, just to discover the very same problem with a new one. The shaver was still working correctly and chargeable, just the cleaning station electric motor was not functioning. Then, I replaced the battery on the shaver and cleaning station start working again. Strange, because cleaning station electric motor is powered by approximately 13V input and it's functioning should not be related to battery's condition.

As I took the batteries out and measured them (using a Voltmeter), their Cell-Voltage was absolutely fine - so I put the old batteries back in and measured Voltage again, but with the shaver turned on to measure the Voltage with load and it's still absolute fine! Fortunately, I didn't order batteries yet, as my shaver now continues working happily with the old batteries :-)

Little TIP: Instead expensive FDK batteries (sometimes hardly to buy) a usual AA regeargeable cells (without metal endings like FDK have) may be used. To ensure connection with coppper contacts, all 4 have to be spring up. The good choice may be well known and good working cells like Panasonic/Sanyo eneloop, or GP Recyko+. Do not suggest Varta due to self discharging parameter (even if producer say somenthing else) - my private experiencie with home appliacies and digital cameras. If a RED light blinking quickly after batteries replacement and Braun is not working, simply connect charger and charge the new batteries. It may happen even if new batteries were charged (externally) before.

It takes 10-15 minutes to start and about 5 minutes to stop nowadays. This behaviour started almost exactly after the guarantee ended. That will say after two years and one week. So it wasn’t about batteries. There was a circuit board inside when I opened it. Have engineers at Braun put a automated product death in it? Thanks for the great video. It had all needed.

Fixofika the shaver does not work when plugged. So maybe it is something else. Thank you for your time.

Of course, you have to weigh the cost of a new shaver vs the cost/trouble replacing the battery. If your batteries are shot you probably also need a new foil head, which in my case was half the price of a new Series 3. I bought mine Jan 2014, so it's over 7 years old. I got my money's worth out of it and it still works, but I have to charge it about every other day, and it's probably due for a new foil head.

A new one is 50-90 dollars, so yes it could save you roughly half the money when you figure in cost of batteries and a new head.

Plz, can you tell me the type of the battery? Is it ion lithium?

The original batteries which I'm using are Nickel-metal hydride. I don't know if it's a good idea to use Li-ion batteries instead. Probably doesn't matter but don't take my word for it :)

Right. LiIon is more than 2x the voltage than NiMh and would likely fry the electronics and motor. Also the charging circuit is totally incompatible with LiIon cells and may cause a fire or explosion. When replacing batteries, always replace with the same battery chemistry.

Hasn't happened to me. But have you tried a different charger if you have one? Might be something with the circuits too, water damage or something.

First I'd like to thank the poster. My Braun S3 3040s appears to be successfully charging in its cradle. Now here are a few tips: 1. You can start at 2:30, without removing the top. I used a small thin pointed, but not too sharp knife. Pushing it upwards very near the top, at the back allowed me to start prizing the strip off, without much difficulty. 2. Removing the bit as shown at 3:58 didn't work for me, but once it did flex far enough to allow me to slip out the printed circuit board with the batteries. 3. As mentioned you don't have to buy batteries with nipples. I just carefully folded a piece of aluminium foil and place it at the negative end to give a tight fit. 4. On putting back the rubber strip pay careful attention to the tabs, so that they are not on the outside. Also don't try to simply push it in right at top. You need to flex the top in before pushing home otherwise it will never go back.

We don't recommend stripping the agitators out of the head. ONLY remove 2 head side screws. Then pull the rubber grip left and right. Drop the grip down from the center unit. Next remove the 6 screws > 2 top, 2 center, 2 bottom < Replace batts opposite polarity. 6 Screws replaced. Slip grip under the unit, press back together. Remove the trimmer. Redo head 2 screws. Confirm the head portion protrudes out the back of shave. Press the sleeve around. Replace trimmer by placing the dog-legged end of spring in shaver hole the other end into trimmer. Slide trimmer up until it snaps in place. Replace the screen on the head. Charge shaver. Test shaver/trimmer operate. Less work.
