How can you love someone when you don't even know their real name? It's Andrew McCarthy, not McCartney.

They don’t make them like that anymore. The 80’s was seriously the best time to be young!

@melaniegemmell1958 That won’t be possible to get that entire main cast together again one of them is dead. the last opportunity to get that entire main cast together was 15 to 16 years ago. The opportunity is long gone & there won’t be another opportunity to get them altogether unfortunately.

I always thought that they could make a Saint Elmo‘s fire part two. One that shows these guys after they went through their lives did their lives make it to their expectations. Did they lose touch with each other? A continuation could’ve been very dramatic for those characters and then could be a whole new set of layers.

After looking at various sources and cross-referencing filmographies this is the Brat Pack , starting with the cast of Ordinary People (1980): Timothy Hutton Elizabeth McGovern Adam Baldwin Sean Penn Tom Cruise Nicolas Cage Crispin Glover Eric Stolz Ilan Michael-Smith Rob Lowe Emilio Esteves Patrick Swayze Matt Dillon C. Thomas Howell Ralph Macchio Diane Lane Chris Penn Lea Thompson Alan Ruck Andrew McCarthy John Cusack Mathew Broderick Ally Sheedy Vincent Spano Mathew Modine Kiefer Sutherland Anthony Michael Hall Molly Ringwald Jaimi Gertz Demi Moore Jon Cryer Charlie Sheen Robert Downey Jr. Jenny Wright Elizabeth Shue Kevin Bacon Jennifer Grey Val Kilmer Judd Nelson Kevin Dillon Mary Stuart Masterson James Spader Frank Whaley This list isn’t based on who was more marketable, or who was a better actor, or who was the star, or co-star, etc. It’s the frequency in which each worked together. These actors represented my generation, Gen X. Something each member should be proud of. BTW, Over The Edge in 1979 starred Matt Dillon and Vincent Spano. So that came before 1980’s Ordinary People. Frank Whaley was a late-comer but starred in some films with other members in the late 80s and early 90s. Could be considered apart of the second wave which included the two Corey’s, Feldman and Haim, Winona Ryder, Martha Plimpton, the late River Phoenix, Christian Slater, Sean Astin, Keanu Reeves, Ethan Hawke, and Kerri Green. There was a lot of crossover between the old and new. Members continue to work together decades later. *Apologize if I left anyone out.

The Boys returns in Australia on June 13 as well. Luckily I have that to watch because we don't have Hulu so it'll probably take a while for this to be aired here :(

The Brat Pack members are so ignorant of the past. They complain about being called the Brat Pack. Brat pack is a younger version of the Rat Pack from the 60's, which included Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. That's where the term came from. Not once in the documentary is this mentioned. They think the term was just pulled out of thin air, with no understanding of where the term originally came from. The term Brat is used because it rhymes with Rat, and it is a term which refers to younger people. It's not an insult.

Yes it was sad to see how some of them viewed the whole thing negatively. Those movies and the Brat Pack association opened doors for some of those actors that would never have opened otherwise.

Did you miss the part of the doco when Rob Lowe and McCarthy were talking about the past and how they went to dinner with Liza Minnelli, ended up at Sammy Davis Jr’s house afterwards and they showed pictures of the Rat Pack and talked about how Sammy was part of the Rat Pack? ETA: The original article by Blum also has a paragraph devoted to the Rat Pack - it’s history and members. To say they (the Brat Pack) are “ignorant of the past” is, in itself, a comment that is based on misinformation.
