That’s so beautiful! My hi school sweetheart was a brandy kind of girl. She has beautiful auburn hair. I heard this song today on 70s on 7 Sirius XM and as music does it’s like a time machine that allows one to look back in time. Brandy the song is timeless. Even my kids enjoy hearing it.

👩🏽‍🎤I grew up very poor in Glennville, Georgia. There were few fine things my mother was able to share with her seven children in the 1970s other than her belief in God, cooking, shelter, clean clothes, and music. Looking Glass's hit, "Brandy" was one of Mama's favorite songs, and when it played on our household radio, the volume had to be raised; Mama insisted on it. Tapping her feet and patting out the beat on her knee was her way of getting into the song. Now, I have that sweet memory each time I hear the song. Thank you for sharing this music with lead vocals by the original singer. What a blessing for my old heart. Thank you, Elliot Lurie. 🙏❤❤❤👏👏🙌🙌😊 Date: April 9, 2024

"Brandy" was a hit when I was 13 years-old. It's one of all-time great pop songs because #1, it's a truly great story. Yes, incredible background vocals, horns, overdubs, and superb instrumentation, but at its heart, the song captured the world's imagination because of the narrative. It has everything that a great film has: three acts, a theme, a protagonist, antagonist, mystery, conflict, and finally resolution, albeit without a happy ending. I would argue that the fact that the song has a bittersweet ending elevates the song even more. The song was written by lead guitarist and co-lead singer of Looking Glass, Elliot Lurie (now a senior citizen), but Elliot still has the pipes! I love this acapella treatment!

According to data from the Social Security Administration,[5] Brandy was the 353rd most popular name in 1971, 140th in 1972, and, in 1973 (the first full year after the song's popularity), 82nd."

Man, this is one of the coolest strip-down tracks I’ve ever heard. It would’ve been a hit acapella! One of my favorite things about the Looking Glass story is that the band held out to sing (& play) on the record, as well as to push for their ideas on the arrangements and instrumentation- not an easy thing to do in ‘71 or ‘72 for a new band on the NY scene without a track record. The backups are just unreal and the lead vocals unique and so COOL that this one song lives on and spans the generations. A great legacy. This is one of those great songs that simply had to be recorded.

Michael Jackson had a song called. Time waits for no one! If I had a time machine. I would never comeback! A lot of our loved ones. Were alive then. Just a simpler time. Families were close.

Several years down the road and sailor boy comes bopping into town w/ flowers and the lot, trying to woo my sister, again. I was fortunate to be there when she told him to get over himself, as he stood there, slack-jawed, not believing what she was telling him, thinking she was his and finding her married and expecting her first child. My only comment was a quiet, "You be well, now." The look on that putz's face weas absolutely priceless. My sister just celebrated her and her husband's 20th Anniversary.

Thank you for sharing your sister's story! The romance of "Brandy" is a lone sailor's dream . . . but that's all it is . . . meant for a song, not for life. The magic of the story is her potential devotion for a better man . . . who is every man listening to the song, hoping to win her affection from an absent lover. The fact that your sister pined after her dream sailor for TEN YEARS is a testimony to the power of imagined love. And that, in my humble opinion . . . is why this ballad has such deep popularity. We all want that beautiful devotion . . .

The original version of Brandy is a song I will always treasure. I remember hearing it in my Dad's 1970 El Camino when he would drive us home from school. This is an amazing rendition of the original that brings a flood of those memories back. Brandy will always be in my top 5 songs. Thank you so much for doing this and sharing it Elliot. You're a true legend.

I am in high school and many of my generation would never discover the treasure of older music and yet in my mind this song will never get old.

I met up with my mom when I was 13, after-school, and she handed me quarters, and told me to play this I guess, she forgot I always have had a radio near my ear, but I know at 65, she wanted me to hear it because she totally identified with the lyrics. My dad was a Naval Radioman...I already had the song in my collection. The journey is life long, I AM here to tell ya ! Be open, to your own healing, and living in compassion Code words: Empathy and LOVE.❤

I was there when this song came out. Monster hit and rightly so. No other song captures loneliness like this. Beautiful a cappella version as well.

I just discovered this video a couple days ago, and I must've listened to it a thousand times so far. I've always loved the song, but this rendition is the absolute best by far. Mr Lurie, your voice still sounds as soulful and beautiful as it did in 1972. The harmonies from Yonge Guns are awesome too. Thank you all for performing this great tune and sharing it with the world!!

@@braidedchain The song is so emotionally evocative and the way you sing it so visually clear. Thanks from Maine!! Especially appreciated at this time of more than usual aloneness.
