Brandon's Cult Movie Reviews: LEGEND OF THE DINOSAURS

I review the Japanese monster movie "Legend of the Dinosaurs" (1977), AKA "Legend of Dinosaurs and Monster Birds", the only dinosaur movie to feature a funky disco soundtrack! (Originally aired July 13th, 2013)

I think I can explain the soundtrack a little. In the 1970's, movie studios were getting taken over by other corporations, like soft drinks makers and the like, who didn't understand movies, but did understand bussiness and so started handing down mandates to the film makers, to do things a certain way. Disco was huge at the time and much, much cheaper to produce a disco soundtrack, as opposed to the traditional orchestral soundtrack. Beleive me when I say, Star Wars came very close to having a disco soundtrack slapped on it by STudio Mandate and as funny as it may sound, Darth Vader wouldn't be nearly as intimidating with an Isaak Hayes Blacksploitation theme tune.

My guess for more inappropriate music for iconic kaiju scenes: King Kong's first appearance in the 1933 classic: "King Kong" (you might know it from one of the BEN Drowned videos) King Kong fighting the T-rex (1933) or the V-rex (2005): The DK Rap Gamera flying in Gamera vs. Guiron: "I Believe I Can Fly" The Trespasser kaiju coming from the portal in Pacific Rim: "Fuck da Police" Rodan flying in Moscow in Destroy All Monsters!: "Moskau" Ultraman vs. Alien Baltan: John Cena's theme The megalodon attacking people in The Meg: "Baby Shark"

When I was a kid, I also had a large obsession with dinosaurs. I think mine was bigger than yours, because not only have I seen almost every movie with dinosaurs in it that I could find, I've also collected little figurines, coloring books, and by the age of 6 already learned names like Diplodocus, Ceratosaurus, Ornithomimus, and Styracosaurus to name a few.

OK let's talk about science because this movie doesn't know what the fuck that is. 1. Plesiosaur and Pterosaur ARE NOT DINOSAURS! 2. While the fact about if Plesiosaur could go on land or not was something paleontologist were unsure at the time, we were pretty sure they didn't go far from the water or hunt for food on land. 3. That head seems a little too big for a Plesiosaur. 4. Pterosaur would not attack a Plesiosaur unless it had a death wish because Pterosaur are quite frail.

tf2godz this movie was made in 1977, they didn't know shit about realistic dinosaurs, also plesiosaurs were never debated to go on land, it was actually a small pliosaur. and, of course it's too big, but It needs to be oversized. otherwise nothing would go down like it did. plesiosaurs wouldn't be big enough to do any real damage, the over sized ramphoryncus wouldnt attack the plesiosaur or the humans. it can't have it's Shit together or else it would be a snore

I know it is nit-picking, but who in their right f'ing mind would walk through woodlands without any shoes on?! You have a fair chance of having to make your way into some marsh lands, or stagnant water. Enjoy those leeches, those are a hoot. That, centipedes, and other not so friendly critters. Not to mention the terrain which has a million ways to trip you, jab into the soles of your feet, and break some toes. Oh yea, can't forget about Ticks. I am sorry, but that makes about as much sense as getting your cat a pair of pajamas. BTW, don't try to do that, it will be a decision your forearms and hands will lament.
