It's a new game using PTCG cards. The bench has only 3 slots and the energy zone are proofs of this and, although we see prize cards, the ex rulebox says that when that Pokémon is knocked out, your opponent gets 2 points. I'm really excited to be honest.

Why would they do this? They roll out a 3 year beta of PTCG Live and then make this on the side?

It's cuz PTCG live makes them literally 0 money you can't spend money in the game but with this new shit TCG pocket it's gonna be a paid mess, want more than 2 packs per day gotta pay, want the special effects on the cards gotta pay.

This won't replace PTCGL. It's being developed by DeNA, just like Pokemon Masters EX, which means it's going to be gacha. It will actually be MORE expensive to play this than the actual, physical TCG, an idea I find bewildering.

@@braindead8899 it's a term for games with f2p and premium currency models that essentially require gambling with game currency for a chance to get a new character, a specific card, etc. As someone else pointed out, the comparison here would be Duel Links. Also games like Fate/Grand Order, Fire Emblem Heroes, etc.

I hope it puts the focus on collecting fun cards and being able to battle with cards you like vs meta relevant

As soon as people can play against each other, there's gonna be a meta. You can always choose to play what you want, but unless You're just playing against friends, most people will opt to play the best decks.

Lower HP probably to make matches quicker since its on your phone.

2x weakness would probably though of game balance. Single prizers seem to be roughly the same hp. But ex’s have much lower hp, so it might make them too easy to sweep up for 2 prize cards.

@Ptcgradio A lot of these mechanics seem very similar to the My First Battle mechanics. My First Battle has an energy spot. Also looka like the bench space is 3 spots similar to My First Battle. HP being low seems aligned with the "quick game" aspect as well.

@@criticalblaster458 i disagree, but don't really have the time or energy to explain why. The main thing I will point at is the target audience for Pokemon being younger and less understanding that two different apps would play the same game differently.

Digital exclusive art makes me sad. I hope we get physical copies of these cards because some of these are amazing. Besides, we have been shown by various companies time and again that digital ownership is not true ownership. I guess we'll see

Yeah, sadly the ghosts of "End of Service", lack of preservation and loss of ownership loom over this project, as is the case with most online games as a service

The more I look at PTCG Pocket the more execiting it looks. On one of the sceenshots you can see a timer for both players and the numbers 1 2 and 3 that can light up so it might be first to 3 prize cards.

I wonder if pokemon is showing future card designs here first to see how the public reacts to them and if people want them they'll make them into a physical card

Damn im kinda really excited to try this. I love mobile card games, I played Duel Links and Marvel Snap for a bit, and I enjoyed them alot, but not super big into those franchises. Bite size mobile pokemon tcg? If this ends up being good im for sure getting into it

Very interesting! I hope that the gameplay is distinctly different from what Live offers. Shorter bite size games is appealing to me as sometimes I want to play a game on Live but I just don't have time for one.

I hope they print physical versions of the cards. I’ve been collecting the regular SV ex cards so far so it’d be really cool to have the alternate ex style to go along with those.

Does nayone think that they will also print those cards, or will be digital only?

Digital only. They can't be mixed with the TCG so why print them. Plus they need to have you pay real money for the digital cards.

As a marvel snap player that has spent wayyyy to much money per "jpeg", I'm ready for a change. AND trading is back. Sounds like an absolute win.

I found your channel few weeks ago and it got me into Pokémon TGC, And this game will let alot of people into the TGC with the new rules

9:19 looks like you still have a 20 or 25min timer. At the bottom of each screen shows that they each have at least 17min and some seconds left for their turns. Maybe some matches will go on for a while? Also numbers at the top could be how many prize cards are taken? If so looks like its a 3 prize match, would would speed things up.

So are we going to start getting TCG POcket exclusive sets like Genetic Apex? Will there be any stuff pre-Scarket and Violet in the app? Also interesting to note is that Kangaskhan using the old artwork from that one Japanese Parent-Child tage team tournatent from the late 90s.

The energy zone could be from the baby decks that release on dic last year or something like that?

It would be cool if the cards could talk as well especially meowth

Sounds like it's edging too close to the nft realm. We'll have to see how it plays out with trading, purchases, etc.

@@popnsomniac6197 I wouldn't say it's really any different than any of their other free to play mobile games, so I think we're long past that. There's a reason I don't play pokemon unite or masters EX, and just stick to their games that you pay an upfront cost for. And even if I don't like them, I wouldn't call a free game microtransactions similar to an NFT, because the reason those are stupid is that their perceived value is exclusively in their scarcity, rather than in the fact that you use them to play a game. If that game is worth the price of entry for someone, that isn't really comparable to an NFT, because they get enjoyment out of it, not see it as an investment.

This seems like the pokemon go version of the TCG. A simplified version of TCG to get more people interested in any version of a pokemon TCG product

My biggest complaint with TCG live I couldn’t ready the text on the full set cards. There was no way to hold the text or anything, so I hope this game isn’t like that either

@dio It also seems like a refresh is what they need. How popular is TCG live? It's not like there are large content creators specifically for it like there is for Hearthstone and Magic Arena. Pokemon physical TCG obviously does but not an online/digital version. I'm very excited for this! :)

Essentially TPCi didn't want to pay Direwolf to continue PTCGO (which needed to be refreshed and updated but at least it worked) or it might have cost too much for TPCi for Direwolf to make a new PTCG app but were way too over their heads to do anything competently. So TPCi has devs who are still working on Live but something is fundamentally wrong and it takes them months or a year to implement basic features or to fix bugs. TPCi is a subsidiary but they have their own projects and are on a budget allocated by TPC.

You probably don't put energy onto a pokemon anymore. You just throw it into the energy zone where the energy can be used by all pokemon even if you switch them out. Just a guess though

Lots of conflicting feelings. Likes: new cards, interactive digital art, simplified gameplay (energy zone/pool is a mechanic from My First Battle!), trading, new sets that could get physical prints someday? Dislikes: DeNA means aggressive monetization, feels like an NFT scam, likely no compatibility with the existing TCG Live App. Wonder if more Path to the Peak cards (Falinks Ex, Mismagius Ex) could be made in this game?

The prize point instead of prize cards thing is rather interesting i like the idea

I think they are going for a drastic change. Pokemon cards nowadays are pretty wild. They are going back to the basics and change up the game a bit. Make it easier to play. And if you haven't noticed... all the EX cards that are shown share the same rulebox: if you knock out that card, your opponent will receive 2 points. So there will be points given instead of pricecards.

Yeah. I keep pointing out that Mewtwo ex is very similar to Next Destinies Mewtwo EX from 2012 but with X-Ball (now Psychic Sphere) no longer scaling with energy since that's what made it stupid OP back in the day. also with 20 less HP than it's 2012 version.

It's basically my 1st battle with 3 bench Pokemon

On the one hand I appreciate that they're dialing back the powercreep On the other I found your comment about PTCGL taking long pretty funny because just yesterday I was complaining that I got like 3 people in a row who got timed out by inactivity. Why do people queue if they're not gonna play, is not like the wait times in queue are long at all

Think about this: SW/SH blocks: -Block1: base stuff -Block2: DLC -Block3: Legends Arceus stuff S/V Blocks: -Block1: base stuff -Block2: DLC So block3 might be mega-ex cuz of Legends Z’s release if we follow how SW/SH worked

We’ll have to see when Legends ZA releases tho. If it’s by the end of 2025yeah no. SV phase 3 will have to be something else. I personally wouldn’t mind so that Legends ZA sets can solidify the return of Fairies. Like even if it’s just a mini block before gen 10, but copium that it will mark the return of the Fairy energy for good

Honestly mostly excited for the immersive cards but that’s about it. I hope in the long run this just makes TCG more popular and so they can finally improve PTCGL, which I don’t think it needs a bigger audience to have a presentable app but at the very least it would be an incentive for Pokemon

9:40 i think there are only 3 pokemon on the bank, i don't think there will be any next to it. and below you can see here (1) (2) and (3), i think these are the prize cards

7:48 this Mewtwo ex seems to be cut from the same cloth as Next Destinies Mewtwo EX but nerfed. - 150 HP instead of 170 HP - X Ball is replaced by Psychic Sphere which in most cases is just worse with no scaling and requiring 1 psychic 1 colorless instead of 2 colorless - Psydrive is the same name but in Next Destinies it required 1 less colorless, and required 1 less energy discard for 120 instead of Pocket's 150 - Weakness is now Darkness +20 instead of Psychic x2 infact looking though the trailers all weaknesses have been changed to plus damage which I don't think has been seen since they were removed in I think Black and White.

I hope that we don't get digital only cards. So we can get all cards offline too

Replacing the energy in deck with an energy zone?!? I'm assuming it will allocate a limit to one attachment for turn, same as the limit from hand. However, if my assumption is correct it will literally fix a TON of issues in terms of bricking as the deck won't contain energy. The little 1 2 3 buttons on the screen make me believe that's the prize count? That on top of the smaller bench leads me to believe it's prizes left to take.

That Moltres card is amazing!

I would like a very basic pokemone game for mobile. Like a game vs another player takes 2-5 minutes and you collect cards via 2 free packs per day or by trading, earning extra packs through real world pack purchases like the codes we get or I guess spending money to help fund the game.

Both sides only have 3 bench space. So… Duel Links of Pokémon? The only thing Pokémon TCG needs to match Yu-Gi-Oh now is a Switch release of PTCGL.

Completely irrelevant, but just noticed the detail that all the cards appear to have the sun and moon style, especially in the basic, stage 1, and stage 2 font

This seems like a stand alone, almost gatcha, type game from the rest of TCG live/IRL TCG. Probably as a way to bridge the gap from people who want to play the actual TCG, but find it too difficult to get into. Curious to see if they start to overlap some of the elements between this game and actual TCG. Such as updated rarity symbols to these diamonds?

Its gonna be the pokemon version of yugioh speed duels

I like the idea of a new trading card game...i also wish we got a story mode or something like the gameboy color pokemon trading card game.

It’s a mistake they should released this inside PTCG LIVE as a side game story mode/blitz still for those that just like cool art and want to have a quick card game session. They can have their own cards sure but having two apps divides the player base and can ultimately kill the other

To be fair this is Creatures, Inc./DeNA (the ones behind Masters EX) and not TPCi. TPCi is a subsidiary but they have their own projects that are not formally acknowledged by TPC in marketing materials.

Unfortunately it wont be available in my area sadge.

The "New" TCG has the proper Pokeball opening on the back, while the original still has the old (wrong) opening on the back; How odd to now have two different types.

Could be a sped up version of the game similar to speed duels in yugioh

Im sure these cards are Game exclusive and the energy zone might just be something exclusive to the game as well

Mewtwo ex is clearly inspired by Mewtwo EX from 2012's Next Destinies. so we might see old cards reborn and rewritten for the new game.

I want to be excited about it, the art looks GREAT! It wont surprise me at all if the free packs are filler garbage with barren pull rates and you will be forced to pay for additional packs to gamble on something better. Im certainly only paying for physical cards if that is what they do here..

What do you think of megas comming back?

Could be that the HP is low to make a faster style gameplay. Instead of 30 minutes, maybe 10-15 minutes for mobile

It's possible, but Mewtwo ex is Next Destinies Mewtwo EX but with nerfs. which that was an extremely powerful card... Back in 2012 Weaknesses are also nerfed back to their Diamond and Pearl era plus damage versions, so counters won't be so hard at least.

I am not a fan. It seems to me like this will be a game filled with microtransactions for the opportunity to open more than two packs a day. I like the concept of being able to trade and have quick battles (I barely play TCGL anymore since it's full of glitches and cooks my phone everytime I play a 20 minute matchup). I am also worried as a collector, I have a strong suspicion there will be Pokémon TCG Pocket exclusive cards. Like you said the HP is too low for example. I also noticed they released an English version of a previously Japanese exclusive card on there: Gardevoir from the illustration contest. My only hope for these new arts to be released on physical cards is if they make it a special set (like Pokémon GO for example). Or if they make it a promo product.. but there are already way too many new cards revealed to be realisticly released in a collection box only. And since if these were released they wouldn't work in the current format, I got a bad feeling I could never own a physical copy of those new cards. That makes me sad, since they are most likely to release new expantions on the app, with new arts as well then. I hope I am wrong and these will get a physical release as well, but I have no faith in that.

Yeah. Mewtwo ex is a pretty heavily nerfed version of the major competitive threat that was Mewtwo EX from 2012's Next Destinies, so it's a huge roll back of power creep.

About the EX HP. I actually like this, for two different reasons. 1. This is looking to be a faster game. So lower HP makes sense. 2. I’ve always said that a 2-prize Pokémon must be worth 2 single-prize Pokémon. Which they aren’t, they’re usually worth more. Same with a Stage 1: if you need to deck slots, make it worth 2 single-prize Pokémon or a Basic 2-prize. These EX with their lower HP feel better balanced; with energy acceleration, a single ex can be taken out by Pokémon of the same prize value, and Charizard can be taken out by 2-3 prizes worth of Pokémon. In this lower HP format, Weakness is more important. You only need to hit 90 to OHKO Charizard.

You actually need to hit 160 to OHKO Charizard, the weakness is +20 like in the Diamond and Pearl era instead of 2x. However Charizard as pretty much always is pretty slow. Mewtwo ex is actually notable though because its close to being Next Destiny's but Psydrive requires 4 energy and 2 psychic discards which is an increase to 1 for both, while X-Ball is replaced by Psychic Sphere which can't be fulfilled by double colorless, and is also just flat damage instead of 20 per energy on both active pokemon which is almost always a nerf. That and Mewtwo is lowered by 20 HP and made weak to Darkness now.

I don't think I've ever heard you this excited before lol.

So this is like MTG online and MTG arena. Ones clearly going to be more expensive for sure But the UI is so nice.

Ok, cool, tbh I love this idea. They took away trading in the trashy replacement of PTCGO and are bringing it back in a new pocket edition. It will make collectors and fans who don't play the TCG download and use the app on a daily basis. I'm willing to bet it's going to cost a TON to pull the chase cards though...

Watching this video, I noticed the new ex rule boxes say that players get two *points* for knocking out an ex Pokémon, so that's another change to anticipate!

Curious if this is solely digital stuff or if it will cross over into the physical tcg... Microtransaction phone games don't interest me in the slightest, but if there's even 1 physical card made from this new Poke-Pocket it might actually be interesting.. (Confusing since I thought they just revamped the online/digital stuff..) 🃏

Ok this fine but we cannot let this become an NFT selling game. Bite sized games can be good for the reasons you mentioned. But Live needs updates. Infact all of this could have just been another mode for LIVE and extra features to truly make thst game awesome

this is a dream come true for collectors no more physical cards. but this will never happen as their will always be people who are willing to buy physical cards.

It makes me laugh at the thought of replacing the daily notifications about Pokémon cards with daily notifications from your local casino, and the trailer takes a very different turn
