This razor is a winner! You won’t beat this price, plus the 100 blades it comes with. My daily driver is a Rockwell 6C on plate 4 for head shaves and a Parker PTABK shavette on the low exposure setting for lining my beard and shaving my neck area. I’m black and my neck area is sensitive and prone to ingrowns and using a shavette eliminated the irritation for me. I bought the Soloedge hoping it would be a good cross between my Rockwell and shavette that I could take traveling. The Soloedge was effortless, quick, and efficient for head shaves. For me it felt closer to a plate 5 on the 6C; my head was completely smooth after a pass or 2. Comparing the two for head shaves I’d say that the Rockwell is a smoother and more comfortable shave overall, but the Soloedge is intuitive and delivered a very close shave in its own right. The Soloedge did a noticeably better job than the Rockwell for lining my beard and mustache. The Soloedge still gave me some irritation on my neck area so I’ll just stick to my shavette for this part. The other obvious perk with the Soloedge is that you’re only using up half a blade at a time. I usually toss my DE blades after 3-4 uses each week when I clean my razor, so I rarely get the full usage from each blade. With a SE I’m wasting less usage when I toss the blade after 3-4 shaves.

Ohio Shaves, you did it again. You made me buy another razor for my ever growing collection. It's a great razor. I don't mind the fact that it's only a single edge. I did find that the glue you don't like on the double edge blades helps to hold it in place while loading. I also hold it at the neck of the razor so that it doesn't spin while loading it. For $39, it's a no hrainer. Thanks for sharing your take on it. Another great video.

Wow looks like the Leaf Thorn has some real competition. Can't wait to see them compared side by side. Both of these remind me of the Bic Metal disposable razor. That was the the single edge razors they were giving out when I started college. You know back when I knew everything. Thought it would fix the clogging issues with cartridges. Yeah I was young and an idiot as we all were. When you compare these I would be interested in the difference in weight and balance. As always great video. You making me think of adding razor 4 to the collection.

I just got the razor today and I must say, it is a very nice shaver. I used a familiar go-to blade, the Rapira Platinum Lux, and it was a smooth shave all the way through. I thought it got a bit aggressive near the end (I do three passes normally), but when I put the alum on my face after, I hardly had any irritation at all. So the shave was largely a success. Two things I would say about the razor, though. First, I also wish it had a magnet with it to hold the blade in place. Using pre-cut half blades are fine, but if you're going to snap your own blades in half, you can use scissors to cut the end tabs down a bit just to take away any curved edges (shout out to Subie Shaves for that one). Maybe we can find a thin magnet strip somewhere to lay on the razor base to give it that magnetic hold. And secondly, although the satin finish on the razor is pretty good, I wish there was a polished gunmetal, nickel, or chrome-finished version to make the glide a bit smoother. But that's just kind of nitpicking. I have to test the razor more with other blades before I give my full verdict, but overall, I'd give it a thumbs up.

I've never heard anyone say Parker's blades are good. They are the second worst ones I've ever tried. Dull to the point of being ineffective and one of the few I've ever taken out of a razor to replace with a better blade to finish the shave. (The worst being the Kent of Inglewood's in house blades. They and the Parker's are neck and neck the worst blades I've ever used.) Personna, Astra Green, Wilkinson Sword (German one), and Permasharp are sharp enough to get the job done with ease but not super sharp like the Japanese blades (Kai and Feather) which require a lot of care in using.

Wanted to update everyone from a week ago when Dave posted this video. I added this Parker to my inventory. I mean, why not at the cost of it. For me, this razor paired with a Personna Lab Blue provides one of the best (BBS) head shaves I have ever had. Two passes and some touch up. This little gem will be in my top rotation with some big guns…..ie: Henson, Rockwell 6S, TRC, and Yates H plate. Might be better than anything in the Leaf line (….and I really like the Thorn & 3-blade Leaf). Hope that helps someone in the wet shaving world. Peace.

Another great shave and the razor looks nice! I had seen other single edge razors (Leaf Thorn & Twig, OneBlade Razor, Supply Razor (which I used to own), etc.), but this one looks very nice and the price is nice, too! I might have to look into this more, but if the aggression is more mid, I might have to back away a bit because I prefer like Mild-Medum razors. As for me, the past couple of shaves had me revisit the Henson AL-13M after a long time and I've been using all types of Personna blades (Lab Blue, Comfort Coat, AccuForge) and my shaves have been extremely close and baby smooth. And honestly, I'm starting to prefer the Lab Blue / AccuForge blades more because I got an immaculate shave with those while the Comfort Coat did pretty good, but I still felt a little roughness afterwards. Overall though, I got some excellent shaves from the AL-13M (and I use another, heavier handle for my AL-13M, so it isn't all aluminum anymore). I'm also getting "Smash" from House of Mammoth this week after sampling it and being BLOWN AWAY with the soap like I was with Embrace...but even more so! Can't wait! 😍

Looking into it to see if it is a good recommendation for someone just getting into the hobby. Might recommend this over the Henson if all goes well, due to price point.

I have been really thinking about getting a SE, injector or Parker's Semi Slant for my wire bristle facial hair. Subie was feeling this was a bit aggressive, but with you saying it lands between the Twig and Thorn I am very interested. I have The Thorn, but its fixed angle doesn't give me the control I need in my ridiculously coarse goatee area which I choose not to grow out because it never really softens enough and really tears up my wife's sensitive face. Hey, David! Can you conduct an experiment? I've heard that to soften your hair before shaving, you don't need to take a shower or treat your face with a hot towel. All you need to do is apply an alkaline substance with a pH level from 8 to 9 (the higher, the better) to the hair for 10 seconds. Basically, you can use the cheapest household soap bar because it has the required pH level. Just lather it up on your face and rinse. Nothing more. Some argue that this is the only correct way to prepare your hair for shaving.

I have been using a beginner razor from amazon for the past few months (viking godfather) and have been struggling with it under my chin / neck. I know that it is my technique or angle because I can shave it fine with a cartridge. Because I still can't get it right, I was thinking of switching to something like a leaf twig / thorn. Would this be better for me than a twig / thorn? The price of the soloedge is attractive but the leaf twig has so much praise around it right now.

I'm the kind of guy who rarely uses both sides of any of my DE razors during a shave - keeping track of which edge is almost impossible for me (although if I use a razor with an open comb and closed side makes it a bit easier). Aside from the challenge of loading a half blade this looks to be a great choice. I've looked at some of the other half-blade options but they seem to look a bit too "space craft" or "feminine" for me - this has a more traditional look. Adding this to my list of razors for my shave den. #ohioshavessoloedge

🇿🇦 Bad news .. saw on another shaving channel snapping a double edge blade to use on this razor. Some blades snap / break uneven and had to do a work arround to find a way to fix the issue to use the snapped blade. The issue is because of the uneven snap and because the design of the head of the razor the edge / cut side of the blade don't appear or petrude even .. blade is not seated even! Glad I did not buy over hasty .. !! Don't say it is going to happen every time but just a headsup to look out for it!!😳

#ohioshavessoloedge I think I'm going to make the plunge and buy this razor. Even with the growth you had from the eye test I detected if you had to run out the door after 1 pass it looked like minimal touch-up would have been needed and looks perfect as a one pass shaver either every day and every other day. I also like the 2 piece of this razor. The thing that I get scared about with the twig/thorn is I'm going to be clumsy and bend the top by accident. For my use it looks the perfect razor for my travel bag, knowing when on the road I could likely do a 1 pass and go knowing at worst it would be a DFS. I can respect your stance of using the blade that is most comfortable for you when doing these tests. It's truly the only way to know if the razor fits like a glove. Like you said, the Parker blades are functional but if something works better for the shaver, take advantage of it.
