No they ain't. No one messes with tugboats. They push around battleships, aircraft carriers, and any other ship that gets in their way. Tugboats are the bullies of the sea. If they don't like where you are, they'll push you to a place they're more content with.

The wiki also states that: "Cons: Cannot torpedo undetected without concealment skill." While it's perfectly possible that WG's just grossly exaggerating when it comes to the torp speed, the info might also be from an early draft of what the ship could've ended up like, and it's just not up to date yet. Then again, last I looked, the in-game tech tree description of the new US BB-line still claimed that they have improved Repair Party, so what do I know. Neither competency or consistency really aren't on the list of things that I've come to expect from WG at this point.

Maybe they are doing the same thing now they have been doing in WoT for years. Every time people bitch about power creep and OP Premiums, they ask: "You want balans? OK, we give you balans." and churn out a ridiculously weak German tech tree or Premium tank and when people complain about that being too weak, they do the: "What, you want OP stuff? Alright, here you go!" and bring out more OP Russian stuff and that cycle repeats over and over.

Interesting Idea. Maybe this would be the next axis DD project, where the GER DD's would get low calibre guns ( 88-105 mm) but have dakka guns like the IJN Harugumo DD line. Much better than the THICC GERMAN DD GUNBOATS which are useless as Hitler's hopes for the Maus tank.

Yup. Compared to a RN cruiser two tiers lower. Compared to Fiji? Lmfao. Yes, I'm aware Fiji's max AP damage is only 3100 compared to Z-31's 3700. Fiji also has fucking 12 rifles and can spam shells like they're on sale for the holidays. The real kicker is that Fiji's torpedoes are better in every way except range. Z-31 has an entire 1.98km of extra range on its fish. Almost the entire line is absolute dog shit. About the only halfway decent one is Maass.

@@azurblueknights The tier 9 and 10, while not good, are at least not absolute trash. The Z-31 though? Tier 1 HE DPM, tier 3 torp DPM, tier 5 AP DPM to make a "cruiser hunting" T7 DD.

As a fan of the way Flam says "smoke" and "sugar" this episode was a true delight for me :P

reminds me of T22 being called a tugboat but that ship has really good torpedoes and can actually handle itself alright in a gunfight. I think wg went "you call that thing a tugboat? hold my beer..." and made this

The Vesby cut down south because he realized the only chance you had of winning was capping. He didn't expect you to go back to your own cap guaranteeing a loss. If you had tried to cap you would of had a chance.

I played the Z-31 yesterday. First game, I did pretty ok. Picked off DD's with the AP. The torpedoes have 1.2 km detection. I managed to land more torpedoes than I do with faster ones. I figure that combined with the low detection range and slowness of the torpedoes, they have more engagement time in the area of the enemy ships. People expect to have the torps pass them by once detected and evaded but these take longer to bypass enemy ships. Maybe some turn into them expecting them to be gone past them like other torpedoes. Just a theory of mine.

It does get a little bit better at T8, and the F. Schultz at T9 performs really well, especially the AP. The problems though are always going to be there with this line. You can't contest caps, and you can't fight other DD's, so you don't really perform DD functions, especially early in a match. That means, especially for random games, your team will always be down 1 DD vs the enemy team effectively. Being in a division can help offset those issues, but solo play you're just putting more of a burden on your allied DD's to perform to the best of their ability.

Z-31 seems to be in the same boat as Shiratsuyu (the ship preceding Akizuki) when it comes to representing the rest of the line. Being stealthier AND having better torp range than its original tech tree counterpart, while also having very lacklustre gunpower is just a bit of a weird way to kick off the new gun-focused DD line. At least the rest of the characteristics are somewhat in line with how the rest of the line seems to be shaping up. For better or for worse.

Except this thing doesn't even have that going for it. It's torps are marginally better and its guns, whilst a larger caliber, have nearly HALF the fire rate than the previous tier. It has less guns than other nation counterparts, which fire slower than said counterparts. Seriously, most of its intended targets will eat these things as snacks, and even equal-tiered torpedo boats can outbrawl it.

The Shira has nearly 50% better HE dpm. MUCH better torpedoes, access to speed boost. May equip torpedo reload for memes.... Shira isnt the best, but god damn this is so much worse.

This DD seems in other hand unnormally accurate vertically (horizontal accuracy is OK), like most of time, it will score all shells which is good. Also on BB, its a good farming damage, the tier IX manage to consistly do 5-8k on my JB broadside...

Memes apart, the Kaga was not having "a hard on", it was following protocol. When I play CV my first directive is to spot and kill Dds. After them is to reinforce flanks /finish dangerous ships

First round was a shining example of CVs being broken - the guy was a potato, but he could dominate a unicum cuz he was playing the right class. Any other ship - enemy cruisers, enemy DDs, you can outplay by smart positioning, except for the guy eating glue in the CV at the edge of the map, ffs....

Flambass: I haven't seen ship with this few icons since beta. Literally posted Thunderer video yesterday.

@@stefanocrosazzo3262 But Thunderer doesn't have torps, so it also has 5 icons. And lots of tree BBs only have 2 amo types, damacon and heal, so 4 in total.

Hunt down and destroy those light cruisers like WG intended. Its almost like they have been designing bad T7-8 tech tree ships to encourage free XP to the good ones at the end of the line. And I use "good ones" loosely with this line.

Shooting at cruisers is what this DD is about. It's a bad DD for sure, but it's guns cits broadside cruisers fairly easy.

Fitting that the only good German ships are cvs As you say they cant do shit they damage you twice

If you have a reputation as a dangerous opponent (and let's face it, you do), people are naturally going to be particularly eager to get you off the map.

Well at least it isn't another high rof HE spammer so that's something at least 😂 Edit: I must be in a super positive mood today because I do have a good thing to say about WG on this wee ship. It does seem very niche BUT credit to the devs, they found a little playstyle gap not covered by DD's and plopped this little thing right in there and they didn't go all hard core gimmick with consumables to do it so wp to them. More of that line of thinking plz 😉 Having said that this thing looks like quite a high skill cap and very situational. It looks like it needs to be on the defensive and needs time to do it's thing. Both these games were down to Flambass positioning and both were mostly on the defensive as well as games that ran their full time. I really think he would have struggled to get anything done if his team had been the ones on the offensive and forget it if it had been a more typical 10-15min round capped out on points. In the current state of the game it looks like a little ball of frustration in a can imo 😜

They need hydro again. I also don't know why they nerfed her reload from 7.5 seconds. I don't mind the torpedoes either. They were fun to test with the hydro. You had to pick when you crept up on enemy DD's. When they finally popped their smoke, and they tended to see you firing with the 150mm's anyway. They never felt powerful, just fun. Hydro would honestly just "fix" them. Even if it's crap hydro :/ Actually.... I'd rather the option to take Hydro/smoke, than have no hydro at all in them :/

Low tier british cruisers have less icons. AP, Damage control and depending on tier, Torps.

You can citadel cruisers in this thing, the ap is workable, but you need dumb cruisers to run sideway to you, or battleships that runs into your torps instead of dodging them, to do well. I have erased cruisers in 3 salvos with good conditions. Its not great for hunting dd. Ap overpen and he is straight bad.

@@lordbrain8867 It is all a game. Hindenburg, Richthofen, Mainz. The rest is brutal trash. And WG keeps feeding all them idiots because many many people get into the game for the German ships. So until German sales drop off, they will not change their profitable business model. The few good German ships are nothing but an excuse when they can obviously include totally perversely OP ships at the same time. Vamp 2, Dutch cruisers very strong, Smaland, literally almost every Soviet ship, Ohio, Georgia etc. Germany is just a lost, trash nation in this game and it is nothing but the good real world reputation of the German ships drawing so many players to them.

It feels like a tier 6.

The conq only has 4. HE, AP, DC and heal :-)

Nothing wrong with this, there are T7 DD with worse stats. Looks like the AA is pretty good and there is a thing I do with DD and CRS that have long reloads. I don't fire all of the guns at once, I fire them one at a time and then hold the button. You fire more often and with less time between shots. Sure your dmg won't go up, but it's better than a 7 sec wait between alpha strikes. lol

im quite sure a Kagero can outgun this

IJN torp DD's are basically better at everything except maybe max health and depending on the ship maybe AP dmg, they will basically always win a gun fight against the Z-31

Ap is good on this ship and have concealment 6.3 km if you know how to play it. The ship is not really that bad and can be a pain in the ass for light cruisers and broadside bbs.

So is there any difference between this and Z39 or nah?

Z39 is a much better ship tier for tier, and it gets an extra upgrade slot that you would only get at tier 8 and above.

Z39 Has good hp pool...decent guns...engine boost, smoke and 5km hydro...an concealment of 6.1...so a bit better only 8.5 km torps but much faster in speed an reload

I was expecting much much more from the AP. Like that Dallas in the 2nd game should have eaten a lot of citadels, not just one ... I can live with the torps etc. But the guns being that bad, the whole line is DoA ... looks like the repeat of the original German DD lineup that was nerfed before release and never recovered.
