I am beyond stoked that Harman have done this. I really love the look of the film & I'm sure they will tweak and perfect their process over time. But I hope this version stays around at the same time. I've always liked Ilford as a company and this current lineup of management is truly showing their commitment to the film community. Ordered my first batch this afternoon after launch and can't wait to shoot some.

This looks like the color films that we had in the 1970's. I'm sure that it will improve with time. Harmon investing that amount of money is a good sign that the market for film is continuing to grow.

This was a fun video! I taught myself photography with color negative and color reversal film. I loved the color saturation that the reversal film gave and I was never quite satisfied with color prints. When I got my digital cameras I started using them for my color photography. But for Black and White it's 90% film. The colors in this film are as you say, very 80's feeling. It really seems to shine on blues and reds. Almost reminds me of older fuji. Your daughter sure makes a great model and it's always uplifting to see her captivating smile! Give my best to the family, mate!!

Good job. Looks like a very contrasty film. Think you did well with the colors. It did appear from the Skittle photo, that this film does NOT like dark purple. But this does show just how difficult making good color film is. I like ILHarmanford's results better than ORWO NC400/500, from what I can tell. But I'm going to guess it all comes down to the scanning and conversion.

Glad to see that there is a new color film out there. I'm amazed by the brown's it produces. The halation it produces at nighttime are really stunning. Hope Harman keeps it that way. That being said, I wouldn't use it as everyday film, especially not for portraits. That pale skin rendering is, in my humble opinion, not always beneficial. But if someone likes it, go for it. The film is definitely worth a try. Think I should get my hands on a testroll. Oh, last but not least : I think it doesn't really like to get over exposed. Colors wash out quickly, at least it seems so. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻

I thought the same: over-exposed shots need compensation in the "virtual printing". Plus, if Harman made it perfect, it would be no different to Kodak or Fuji, so best to keep the halation and unique look.

G'day Rog, Great video, good on Harman Ilford being bold enough to invest in a new product that isn't mono. That would have taken considerable R & D and cash. It's a great looking film possibly for subdued days (perfect for blighty then lol) I should imagine it would work really well in the early morning and dusk in Australia and indoors....love the slightly muted colour range....I don't shoot heaps of colour but I certainly would consider investing in this cheers buddy

Seems to have a more nostalgic rendering, (which I enjoy). Seems slightly grainy too. Reminds me of a film lomography put out, which could be a copy of something else that exists under another name.

Yours are some of the best with this film. Only critique is the yashicamat photo and some more photos after that the trademark grain made it's presence. And I was looking for the orange trademark cast. I would like to see this film used with long exposures such as fireworks. Your portraits of your daughter, christmas tree and skittles are tops. Except for the hairs in some of them they are still nice. I have yet to use this film . Hopefully soon.

I really hoped that the film that I knew for some time now, that they were working on, was going to be a transparency film, a modern version of Kodachrome. The halation is not something I would be happy to shoot, as there’s plenty of other films out there which show plenty of halation for nighttime photography. From what I can see in your photos, Rog, the film delivers punchy reds and oranges and that’s something I like. My go to 35mm colour film is Portra 160, so will need to compare it with that, particularly re the skin tones. A good start and will shoot whatever they bring out, as I appreciate their support for film photographers.

Without using this film, the negatives look more contrasty than Kodak or Fuji, which means less exposure latitude and scans that fill your RGB colour gamut. It would be interesting to see how they enlarge in the traditional way, with an optical enlarger (i.e. not scanned). I suspect the result looks very contrasty, without burning in and dodging.

Since it says Harman on the box, then it is definitely manufactured in Ilford in Mobberley. A lot of the stuff marketed under the Ilford brand are nothing to do with Ilford _Harman. I believe that the films have the Harman brand and the papers that are manufactured in Switzerland carry the Ilford name. It is difficult to say, but to my eyes, it seems that the anti halation layer is missing. There is a lot of blooming around the lights. This is a trick the Cinestill played with Kodak Vision3 emulsion and people seem to like their films. Interesting film though, Rog. It would be interesting to see what it looks like with a Bleach Bypass development.

Correct, though Harman produce Ilford-named products because of some grandfathering in of the brand name. Anything they make since the spinoff though, has to be Harman-ized.

I'm not sure how to bleach bypass Lensman! I don't shoot and develop colour much. So from what I believe Ilford is a trading name of Harman Technologies. The Ilford name is not allowed to be on any of their colour products. It's a business thing! But yes made in Mobberly from scratch. Clever stuff!

@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Bleach Bypass is exactly what it says on the tin. After the developer stage, the colour negative is bleached to remove the unused silver. By not bleaching this silver remains, in fact it forms a black and white impression on top of the colour image. This leads to an increase in contrast and a decrease in saturation. It has a very gritty effect. They used this process in the movie Saving Private Ryan, I think. Hope this helps Rog. Cheers.

I guess for those without darkrooms, colour or BW, they have the negatives stored for the day they may set up a darkroom and just enjoy shooting old cameras and the excitement of getting the negs back or developing at home. I know lots of colour shooters that just love the look of colour film rather than using software filters to achieve it from digital. I did a vote once on the channel about this and it was pretty much half and half about printing photographs. There is a UK band called "The Vaccines" and a lot of their backstage photos are on colour film. I think one of the members is a keen film shooter. Point and shoot with flash it seems. And I'm sure they use them on their album covers. Interesting to see. Totally see your point though Terry.
