Tip to making almost perfect port holes; Use a small screwdriver heated over a stovetop or blowtorch to make the first hole in the center of where u wish the hole to be (can also use an old soldering iron tip.) Then slowly use a small rounded file starting in the middle working out. I've been able to get near perfect results even with even strange shaped sockets.

If you have a small enough bit and a drill you may be able to use that too. If you're very careful

Great video! I had a terrible experience installing the Optimize kit that costed me my N3DS XL to stop working. This kit looks soooo much more easier to work on. I hope to get my hands on the next batch. Edit: I got a capture card kit and installed it myself. I couldn't install/solder the audio flex cable because I suck at soldering, but I just use the 3.5mm jack and a ground loop isolator for audio. It works great!

How do you currently stream??

That "digitizer" I believe is the NFC reader for Amiibos. I think Loopy is using some sort of CNC. The cuts look like tool paths. I bet he uses machining for the USB-C hole as well. I'd like to see more 3D printed jigs that line up where to drill tiny holes where the type-c will be installed. I can't remember where I saw it before, but it was great. 3 tiny holes. Then a second jig with 2 holes to knock out the rest. Then a small amount of filing.

You’re thinking of the DCDIGITAL 3D printed piece. Yes I was kicking around some ideas yesterday. I was thinking a piece that fits on the USB port. When you line it up the 3D printed stencil stays in place

Looks like Loopy has a CNC for milling out/flattening any indents or holes for the shells. It’s too perfect lol.

Watching this while attempting to mod my own. With little experience, So far, 8 hours in total. Troubleshooting, readjusting, the fun stuff. Still at it. Currently just trying to reseat that bottom screen flux cable. No picture on the bottom. Hopefully it isnt damaged.

@AlbiReborn Oh, everything went perfectly fine! I was just being too careful with the flux wire, causing it to not fit in the port fully, lol. Recorded footage from it, and it worked flawlessly! As for Loopy, he's still doing the installations for the New 3DS XL. When he isn't, he usually has the process of buying that service disabled & makes an announcement on his fourms.

This one looks so much better than that last kit. Still have nightmares about cutting those ribbons. I’ve seen some people use the IR port right next to where you put the capture board for a literal factory cut. Not sure how one would approach that but it would look so clean. Just did a modded DS Phat reshell just to try my cut usb c cut again and it STILL looks like shit lol

It is pretty easy to solder in a usbc port to charge the device. Much easier than both an optomize or loopy capture board.

It is already out of stock. I wanted to buy one because this looks easier to install :(

Hey, what temp were you using on the soldering portion of the install?

I have a question about this capture card. Does it change the form factor of the 3DS or make it any less comfortable to use? I know the OG one looked like a bit of a bulky attachment to the system and I was hesitant to buy it because of that.

I watched the other one to share the pain. This is so much better... man I don't want to fuck with a 3ds

Thanks for the helpful video. I tried to do it myself, unfortunately I was unable to do the soldering for the audio. Skipped that step, since I can get direct audio through AUX cable connected to the headphone jack.

Does the audio work fine on both your 3ds and OBS? Do you plug the aux cord through your mic or headphone port on your computer?

@@justintaw I plug it in at the back I/O as Line In. There was some electrical feedback, so I had to disconnect the 2 cables (which were added on a later version of the capture card) that allowed the 3DS to be charged via the USB cable.

I'm not sure if anyone is still seeing this, but I attempted to do the mod, all the soldering, and when I test the 3ds by powering it on, the top screen and audio work just fine, however the bottom screen doesn't display anything. The bottom screen touchpad still works fine however, just its not displaying anything.

How much do you charge for people to send their 3DS' to you and have you install them for us? I have a regular 3DS with an uninstalled capture card, but I don’t trust myself to install it without mucking something up

Can you believe i fixed the top screen on the original 3ds 3 cables through the hinged fixed it no problem but damaged the touch screen ribbon putting it back.

I'm not sure what happened to mine, but when i went into the "testing" phase after soldering the audio bits, my 3ds went into luma menu then didn't boot and now it flashes a quick blue led once and won't turn on when i press the power button. Some article from 2018 said it might be a boot error from loading without sd card inserted, and to reinstall luma. I'm not sure how to do all that and afraid i bricked my system, so be aware i guess :/

I’m not sure. I had the same issue. I ended up just adding more solder until I could get the cable off, and just did the rest of the install. Audio seems to be working fine now after I did that. I’ll probably just use line-in/OBS audio mirroring like I did when I used NTR.

Currently doing this. What I did is that I took some solder and put it onto my thin iron tip. After that, I used flux on the area. Then with caution, I just touch the points.

Wish there was someone in the UK I could send my 3DS to in order to get one of these installed, but can only get the Optimize kit here. Sending overseas is just too much money :(

256... though they start getting slow in the menus and navigating to different apps . Games and Gameplay doesn't ever suffer though. For example, if you go from the 3ds homescreen to an emulator like Twilight menu retroarch or snes 9x or anything like that...takes longer to open it. I recommend stopping at 120g

I don't have any experience but advice I have heard from other youtubers is to be extremely patient, you can always remove material but you can never put it back, so just take your time and don't rush

Taking these apart is a pain. I did a bunch of them back when one had to solder to various pads to dump, patch, and flash the firmware to mod.

@@ModzvilleUSA how do y'all even break them? Did some of those emmc hardmods myself, in addition to proper c-nub replacements with psp-1000/thinkpad stick caps and never borked a single unit. I always went very slow when opening them up, while shining a light inside to clearly see all the ribbon cables. Turned out to be surprisingly easy, even though I was very scared of breaking them after reading all those horror tales.
