500cc Fuel Injected 2 Stroke vs 450 Four Stroke race bike. Which machine will a pro rider be faster on? Let's find out!
In our continual mission to build and ride the worlds fiercest two stroke dirt bikes we teamed up with BRC Racing in Canada to turn a Husqvarna TE300i Enduro bike in a fire breathing 500cc beast. We call it KONG! And in this video MX1 professional racer Tom Grimshaw will be putting our 500 head to head against his race bike, which is a 2023 GasGas MC 450f. What are you predictions let us know in the comments below!

We need more comparisons like this. Especially once the Bike and the Suspension is set up for the Riders.. There is no Comparison against a 500cc Two Stroke. This is Proof the Research and Evolution of the 500cc two stroke will never stop. If only a Factory team would have the Balls to Race a 500cc two stroke on thier Race Team..

450s are not racing in the 500/open class. 450s are the 250 class. 250s are the old 125 class. Stupid.

Now this was a fair comparison! Admittedly I wanted the 500 to win but with an insane, young and current pro like that doing the riding, you can trust the results. Imagine if the suspension was tuned to his liking and he had some real seat time on it! What a rider 😮

So steel frame, chassis developed for about half the power and built (no offense) mostly in a shed. Can you imagine how fast these things would be with the extra 20-30 years of factory development they are missing? About the only big difference on that engine from the old ones is FI. Imagine if the chassis was developed around that engine and that engine was developed with modern design, casting/machining techniques and so on from the ground up. I reckon there would be another 10kg loss and another 10hp more over a massive spread. As if it isn't impressive enough already.

Oh yeah ! What is the price difference for both bikes ? You guys have been massaging the KONG for some time now and it's an Amazing motorcycle . Thanks for the wonderful videos and the passion you all have for the SPORT . I'm loving every moment of it . Thanks for showing that even Professional Riders sometimes go down too . Just glad no one got hurt and no broken bones . I've been laid up a few times and it's no fun . Keep the videos coming , 2-Strokes are a blast . Thanks !!!

Back in the day the Honda CR500R was a mega machine. Under power it had the torque of a four stroke without real weight. Under power you could ride it and put it where you wanted to. But stopping it was another story. It was so easy to lose sight of how quick you were going. I was so small at nine stone that all I could do was ride it on the throttle to the point it tried to kill me. To date the most devastating machine I have ever been on. If KONG is anywhere close and probably better, with all the modern teck listed, I can see why Tom nailed it and has the smile to prove it. Mega.

I really enjoyed this. Now my prediction is that he would be 3-5 secs faster per lap if he were to ride the 500cc for two months about 4 days a week. He was naturally very comfortable on the 4 stroke which is what he’s used to so he’s going to actually ride it better. The 2 stroke made up that difference due to being more powerful and quicker so if he was adjusted to the bike he would be faster on the 2 stroke for sure. Now I would like to see that test done where he’s had several months to practice on the 2 stroke. If he practiced only on the 2 stroke and did not ride the 4 stroke at all then I would say he would easily beat it by 5 secs.

You guys have any trouble tuning the 500 as a tpi? Had a bit of trouble with mine mainly idling too low but got the tb yesterday so hopefully it fixes that, also had an issue with a lean bog because the power valve opens too soon but found an easy fix for that.

  • @999lazer

    @999lazer

    10 ай бұрын

When we first did the conversion we ran it once with the TPI, the bike ran well apart from the idle, but that's because we didn't do the idle screw mod (as we knew we were going to do the tbi conversion). Obviously we had TSP flash the ECU to the BRC500 spec first. The TBI conversion using @brc racings new TBi throttle body is incredible. Our bike couldn't run any better, its incredible. We still use the stock TSP flash , but you have to get hold of the new ERM module that TSP have recently brought out to adjust the fuelling and increase it by 20% in most areas otherwise the bike will not run well. If you speak to TSP or BRC they will guide you though this. If you are in the UK Rutherford Racing are the guys to talk to about the ERM. We are making a full video from start to finish about the throttle body conversion. It will be out in the next couple of weeks and you'll see what we've done from start to finish. Hope that helps.

@@999lazer cheers for the reply, I can get it to idle faster if I turn the idle screw up but where it needs too be for normal idle speed the tps % is too high, it can't go over a certain % or it messes with the mapping, doesn't seem to like cold starting either that's probably down to the slow idle though . I'm based in aus, the tsp map has been tweaked a fair bit it was running way too rich fouled a plug in the beginning and the pipe was full of oil . I just got the brc throttle body a few days ago be taking it back to the dyno once installed so no plans for the erm at this stage hoping the tb makes a big difference though can't wait. The bog it had wouldn't be as bad on a track possibly wouldn't even happen, it was roll on 5th or 6th gear just as it hit powerband, if I keep the revs up from the get go like you would on a track it's not noticeable. You probably know by now but keep an eye on that decomp nearly lost mine before I added loctite and fairly sure that plastic power valve cap is going to melt showing signs already, found some similar billet rotax sea doo caps but m8 thread so no go and can't find anything but plastic for the brc pv which is rotax evo.

I have never rode a 4 stroke open class. But I can say definitely that there is no way they are as much fun as my 85 cr500 was. Might be faster, but grins per mile nothing touches a 500 2 stroke. This channel ( and that bike) makes me remember that flying to close to ground( sometimes waaay to close) feeling. Thanks!

How do u boys at Lazer999 rate the EFI BRC 500 based husky compared to the carbied YZilla BRC 500 based bike? Do ya's think the EFI is way better or still like a perfectly jetted/carbied 2-stroke? Also im sorry but even though the BRC 500's sound good, NOTHING sounds better then a proper prepped and tuned KX500 (and i mean that with no offence intended) 👍 awesome vid guys keep em coming ✊️🤘🤘

Its early days with the Husky but it is crisper and feels different to the Yzilla. The BRC Tbi system has been incredible so far. I think the pro's will prefer the TBi system as it makes the bike more aggressive to ride, but a "normal" ride may prefer the slightly softer feel of the YZ

If they ever let 2 strokes enter back in the factory cc for cc , for example 250 vs 250 , 450 vs 450 with todays fuel injection, the 4 stroke sales would die overnight

Great video Max. I would like to see Billy Bolt ride this for a few laps. After all, the bottom end is a Husky and he is as crazy a throttle twister as I can think of. It maybe the best shot at getting a factory to race it.

It was Grimshaw's first time on the bike, it wasn't even set up for him, it was basically an adaption of a 300 enduro- the whole thing wasn't even meant to be a 500mx... Just imagine if it was built with the resources of a factory, not just a couple of guys in a garage. Lazer just made the whole 450 class seem like some kind of a scam.

I'm surprised the 500cc bike didn't significantly beat the 450cc bike. I understand the difference between 2-strokes and 4-strokes (e.g. weight, shifting frequency, etc.), but the 500cc bike is more powerful and lighter. Hmm?

You're correct, mx bikes are about power to weight ratios. A 500 2t is an opera class bike and a 450 4t is the replacement for the 250 2t due to engine dynamics. This test just shows how good the modern 450 is
