Awesome video mate! I think you are the first one to give a comprehensive review of CX new 777 economy class seats! The seats do look like a major improvement, however I do feel that Cathay's service has went downhill over the past few years. I do hope that SQ do not change their economy seats to the narrower 3-4-3 configuration or at least till the 777-9 comes. As always, keep up the excellent work!

Yeah I definitely noticed a massive decline in service, one FA was particularly rude to a senior passenger right next to me. Was rather shocked.

Never been on the 787, but I can guess that the 3-4-3 on the 777 is the same as the 3-3-3 on the 787. I was rubbing shoulders with the passenger next to me, and my neighbor and me are both small in size.....

Ok it's sad that nowadays Boeing does not have a comfortable wide-body jet to fly on. They designed both the 777 and 787 with standard 9 and 8 a-breast configuration but made the cabin just wide enough so that airlines can squeeze in another seat. Airbus on other other hand designed both the A380 and A350 cabins to comfortably accommodate 18" seats across without the width to squeeze in another seat. This is why these days I prefer the A350/380 as opposed to Boeings. Furthermore, both the A350 and A380 are quieter than the 777/787.

I hate how most airlines are all going 3-4-3 in economy on their 777's it's not good or necessary and makes flying in economy so unpleasant

Oryx Flyer yeah, especially in the Asia region, where cost is so important these days. The low cost airlines seems to be doing far better than their high-quality service counterparts.

It's not that bad, tbh. I've been in Philippine Airlines' 777 flight with 3-4-3 configuration for 12 hours. The legroom is fantastic, and that's what I care about. Legroom is where Cathay sucks at.

Flew today on the CX 3-4-3 seat configuration. The seat width was really tight. It was really miserable flight thought it was a relatively short one from HK to Singapore. Be warned.

With an 11.6" IFE screen, that means regular economy gets a bigger screen than Premium Economy's 10.25" screen. Presumably sharper too. Time for Premium Economy to get upgraded.

The reasons behind your delay is just so unfortunate though I wonder why nobody complained about it (not like that would do anything). It’s sad Cathay’s 777’s economy seats are narrower now specially on a long haul flight.

I flew in Airbus A340-600 from Lufthansa and also many A330, all had 2-4-2 configuration. It‘s the best comfort ever for eco.

I'm just curious about the IFE. It does look identical to the 359s. But did the IFE feature live TV channels (which are already featured in on the 359s)?

Extremely uncomfortable especially when on for 12 hours

Been there a long time ago with this kind of seat configuration. A 3-4-3 seats configuration onboard Boeing 777-200/300 series is inhuman. Even for me with an average Asian body type.

Is that changed now?

My gosh... I don't want to see myself seated in a super cramped cabin like this! The big-sized Westeners will stay out of this for sure. But I'm glad that SQ is sticking to 9-across economy instead of 10-across in their 777s.

I'm absolutely DISGUSTED!!!! Any airline that converts their B777 economy cabins to 10 abreast should not be called a PREMIUM Airline period!!!

Nice report. Personally would never fly a long haul in a 17.2” wide Y seat. Minimum acceptable standard is 18” (Airbus is right).

Sometimes the "number" itself doesn't fully reflect if the seat is comfortable or not. I found I can survive and even have some sleep on CI's 77W 3-4-3 seat which has been "measured" as 17" (width) x 32" (pitch), but just do not feel comfortable on their old 773 seats which is 18.2" wide. Even for CI I just need to spend some more miles to get upgraded to a PEY seat which is much more better than a PEY seat on CX. Nevertheless, service might be a greater factor to how the pax feel about an airline.

Only B-KPWXYZ and B-KQABY have these seats

I was on B-KQA and it is a 3-3-3 still but it does have the new livery (B77G).

CX is expensive, their catering is behind many other airlines.

Cathay Pacific may extend the 3x4x3 to the older 777s.

Flew that 777-300 to HKG from SIN - absolutely horrendous! And it’s not just the seat. Everything from boarding, meal service, toilet to disembarking suffered as a result. Even cabin crew were unhappy

The seats on a350 are already narrower than their previous 77w. Couldn't accept an even narrower seat! Hospitality was horrible when I flew from BRU to hk last month.

Because they had the 3-3-3 on their previous 77W which has a wider cabin than a350 and more comfortable on the same 9 abreast. So if you squeeze another seat on 77W which most airlines are going for to make extra $$$ Ofc it will be narrower seats than a350. Every airline is using 3-3-3 on their a350 except for Air Caraïbes. 3-4-3 Totally disappointing. It’s narrower and uncomfortable than any 77W using 3-3-3 or 3-4-3

Horrible what airlines are doing now , I’ve just arrived in Bangkok on a klm flight and you end up eating your meals trying not to knock your neighbours arms , you are too close to each other and it’s difficult to sleep ... economy passengers are treated like shit !

These seats are absolutely horrible! Will forever be avoiding every CX 777. On CX, only the A350 is comfortable where it is still 9-across and there's enough legroom and recline.

This is just terrible. Now I have to add 777 to 787 as planes to AVOID!

Damn, the flight must've sucked at the beginning, huh?

Acceptable for a short or medium-haul flight! But what about trying AF76 CDG-PPT via LAX? Air France is operating this flight with a 10 abreast B777-200ER in economy. I suggest you choose a window seat! Now, get ready for a 20 hours flight (2 hours layover at LAX not included) on a narrow seat (17'' width) with quasi inexistant armrests, and no gap between the seat and the window! I'm pretty sure you'll feel cramped! Once you'll experience a long-haul flight in a densified wide-body aircraft, tell me if you'll still be able to deal with it! o(^o^)o

What will probably happen for long haul USA/Europe flight is that say australian westerner passengers will not fly with them, therefore having empty seats... so my advise for these poor souls on fanfare is that once the doors are closed, just reseat yourself next to an empty seat !!! Cathay made poor choice on Y seats before (remember the slide down, hit your knee seats ? ) and they did it again !!!

I'll get alerted by email when Cathay has a deal, but what I normally do is plan my twice-yearly trips to the Philippines 4 or 5 months in advance. I'll know which month I'll be traveling, then I'll price it out by day of the week. If you're flexible which day of the week you can fly, you'll see that you can save a lot if you pick certain days over others.

looks like the 3-4-3 seats are terrible ! it is only suitable for passengers without arms... as they are so narrow, and I do not agree that passengers will get used to it, they will just find another airline, I am in Sydney, I will avoid Cathay 3-4-3 777 economy when the changes happen, and I will either fly Singapore airlines to asia and Europe, and Delta airlines to USA, or try the Chinese airlines, even pay a little bit more for premium cabin in Chinese and Taiwan airlines... Cathay can probably get away with it for their Asian routes, however for any long haul Australia / USA / Europe big built westerners will not fly them....

If delta is not flying to hk, the next choice is American 777 main cabin extra 3-3-3 and even more legroom, and free for oneworld sapphire (Marco polo gold) and above !
