Brakes. M3 and M4 - explained, Episode 06.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The developers of the BMW M3 and M4 have the floor. No frills; just information - first-hand from those who know best. In Episode 6, Juergen talks about the brakes of the new M vehicles.
BMW M3 Competition / BMW M4 Competition:
Fuel consumption in l/100 km (combined): 10.2. CO2 emissions in g/km (combined): 234.
BMW M3 / BMW M4::
Fuel consumption in l/100 km (combined): 10.8. CO2 emissions in g/km (combined): 248.
The values of fuel consumptions, CO2 emissions and energy consumptions shown were determined according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version applicable at the time of type approval.
The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers optional equipment and the different size of wheels and tires available on the selected model. The values of the vehicles are already based on the new WLTP regulation and are translated back into NEDC-equivalent values in order to ensure the comparison between the vehicles. [With respect to these vehicles, for vehicle related taxes or other duties based (at least inter alia) on CO2-emissions the CO2 values may differ to the values stated here.] The CO2 efficiency specifications are determined according to Directive 1999/94/EC and the European Regulation in its current version applicable. The values shown are based on the fuel consumption, CO2 values and energy consumptions according to the NEDC cycle for the classification.
For more information on the WLTP and NEDC test procedures, see www.bmw.com/en/innovation/wlt....
Further information on official fuel consumption figures and specific CO2 emission values of new passenger cars is included in the following guideline: 'Leitfaden über den Kraftstoffverbrauch, die CO2-Emissionen und den Stromverbrauch neuer Personenkraftwagen' (Guide to the fuel economy, CO2 emissions and electric power consumption of new passenger cars), which can be obtained free of charge from all dealerships, from Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH (DAT), Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern-Scharnhausen and at www.dat.de/co2.

    Rear brake calliper is too small. On a well balanced car such as the M3, the rear brakes actually take heavy loads. That’s why there’s a 370mm rear disk, but a single pot tiny calliper? I don’t get it.

    M brakes are developed at the Nurburgring, which isn’t a track known for heavy braking. Given the significant weight increase vs the prior generation, the front brakes needed the upgrade, while the rears are now just along for the ride. The F8X suffered massively at many racetracks because it had no cooling.

    @@BMWM the information is ok and the effort is appreciated. But you can’t change the fact that these cars are ugly. I have owned 12 BMWs over the course of 20+ years and have been as loyal as they come even with the misqueues like s54 rod bearings, n54 turbos, m50 cooling, etc. I have eagerly awaited each subsequent release of the M3 and this car has completely disappointed. It just looks terrible. So many areas where it just looks like cheap aftermarket add ons or the different teams didn’t talk to each other during the design phase. This was going to be my next car and now I am not buying. I hope others do the same and you can fix this car with the LCI. Take a long hard look at the M5 and M8 and clean up the bumpers, the pig snout, hideous grills, weird vent shapes, and why are all the lower prices gloss black? Make them body color please. Ugh, I could go on much more but I am sure you get the point. Please fix the look of this car or for the love of god don’t screw up the upcoming M2 or I am done buying.

The technological advances are vastly overshadowed by the amateurish production quality, as evidenced by the vertical filming and a lack of studio-quality lighting. All of this pales in comparison to the horrendous overall design, which is being utterly lambasted in online discussions. Those who like it are in the minority.
