Brahms "In Stiller Nacht" (1864 & 1894 versions)

Музыка

1864 version: Rias Kammerchor conducted by Marcus Creed
1894 version: The Comedian Harmonists
Der schöne Mond will untergahn,
für Leid nicht mehr mag scheinen,
die Sterne lan ihr Glitzen stahn,
mit mir sie wollen weinen.
Kein Vogelsang noch Freudenklang
man höret in den Lüften,
die wilden Tier' trauern auch mit mir
in Steinen und in Klüften.
In the quiet night, at the first watch,
a voice began to lament;
sweetly and gently, the night wind
carried to me its sound.
And from such bitter sorrow and grief
my heart has melted.
The little flowers - with my pure tears
I have watered them all.
The beautiful moon wishes to set
out of pain, and never shine again;
the stars will let fade their gleam
for they wish to weep with me.
Neither bird-song nor sound of joy
can one hear in the air;
the wild animals grieve with me as well,
upon the rocks and in the ravines.

    @@jessemoog5310 There are quite a few descriptions though of people who did know him ( Ethel Smyth for one ) and they paint a certain picture... If they saw it incorrectly and he wasn' t bitter at all - well , great, I wish him well, love his music💜 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶

    @@mellifergold I know. But still you shouldnt talk bad about someone and state it as Fact when that someone isnt around anymore and you didnt even know him. I think for example that Brahms was just rather honest and harsh, wich could come across as bitter. There is for example a Story of Thaikovsky visiting Brahms and some Friends for dinner and he was very surprised how fun and nice Brahms was, because he had a different picture of him in his mind.

    Do you know how it felt like for me, a fluent-in-German kid, to sing this beautiful German lullaby with an American middle school choir who obviously knew nothing about the German language? It hurt

    I'm singing this in a quartet for my school's advanced women's choir, another Brahms with the whole choir, and another Brahms with the less advanced choir. I find it painful because I know none of us actually know how to pronounce half of it and our director hasn't gone over it yet. But I found this video in my quest to better my German pronunciation :D it's even the same arrangement

    Even before I knew German, and my homeschool choir sang this song... There was a German speaker that was telling us the correct pronunciations, but I got it down by the third word. Everyone else, though... Yeah...

    I'm excited to sing this in my university with the choir. We had someone translate the lyrics and everyone's faces went to, "I think we're all singing this wrong". The words are beautiful. You mentioning it hurt hahaha I hope we do a great work.

    Die zweite Version ist von Harry Frommermann ca. 1935 für die Comedy Harmonists arrangiert. Die von 1894 dürfte noch einmal anders klingen. Die ist hier jedenfalls nicht dabei. Da muss man schon nochmal unterscheiden.
