sometimes it's difficult to focus on breath because of bad situations of life in that condition you've to manipulate the breath just start taking deep breaths slowly and feel your stomach going out and in and feel the cold and warm sensation of breath in nostrils while breathing in and out, this will instantly calm down your mind and reduce the quantity of your thoughts.
