Braemar gathering Highland Games Scotland
Since we created this video, HRH the queen has passed away, RIP ma’am you'll be sorely missed.
Braemar gathering is the most prestigious highland games event in the calendar, attended by the Royal family and held at the princess royal and duke of fife memorial park, Cairngorms, Scotland.
We parked overnight in our camper van in the centre of Braemar for the games and watched bagpipe marching bands pass through the streets.
HM the queen normally attends but this year it was prince Charles and Princess Anne in attendance which pleased Sarah as Charles gave her a smile and we sand the national anthem to the royals.
The event is amazing, there's lots of sports happening including many different marching bands parading around the park.
Plenty of food and drink available and the atmosphere is superb! Especially as we'd originally booked our tickets for the 2020 event but, due to covid, we had to wait until 2022 to attend.
The drive to Braemar is stunning. From the South, it passes through Glenshee and the views of the Cairngorm mountains are spectacular.
We decided to retreat from Braemar for our second night and head south to the Kelpies to see them illuminated at night and take some photos. The rain had other ideas for us but it was an amazing weekend and we'll no doubt be back at the gathering in the future.

Canny wack a bit of the pipes. Been to Braemar several times. Our dog hates the bagpipes though!. Kelpies are decent, we live 15 minutes from them.

We’re dying to watch this event again but you’ve just reminded us, our idiot dog would not like the pipes, the drums or the starter guns so we need a willing dog sitter 😄😄
Great trip, loved the games. Greetings from Kansas USA.

Thank you 🙏🏼 It was an amazing experience 🤩 Hello back at you from England 🏴
Well, after 6 months of trawling through various vlogs on campervans, we’ve finally come across you pair. You’re probably the best channel on here for a mix of content and making it genuine and funny 👏. Once my ears have stopped ringing from all those bagpipes, I’ll catch up on all your trips. Excellent work, look forward to more, love Dennis 👍

😂😂 thanks Dennis, our ears are still ringing too! Thanks for the great feedback too, everyone is good at something, our channel growth suffers because we document different kinds of trips but, that’s our life so that’s how it’s going to stay. Plenty more to come as we’re on the eurotunnel tomorrow 😉

@@Professionalmoochers yes, I get the issue with channel growth, I also do a rugby league podcast with a similar philosophy, it’s taken 4 years to get established but we refuse to conform for ‘growths’ sake. Don’t change, play the long game, it’s great. we’ve started our camper channel recently and intend to just do our own thing at the cost of growth but I’m not arsed, just having fun with it😎

Absolutely, we started this channel for our own memories. I wouldn’t enjoy reliving our memories if we were just playing a game
Hey! Thanks for sharing this. You're a lovely couple, and I very much enjoyed watching your video. The King County Highland Games, here in Washington state, has a nearly as beautiful backdrop as your Braemar Games. It's a two day event, with a free sing-along and ceilidh the evening before it kicks off, the last weekend of July, at the King County fairgrounds in Enumclaw, Washington. Seeing your games makes me deeply sorry that I missed ours, this last July. Anyway, thanks again. It was super. Especially seeing their Royal Highnesses, there. Very cool.

Thanks very much Paul! Your games sound amazing and we’ll certainly look it up if/when we head over to the states 😍 Braemar Gathering is so good, the atmosphere is full of excitement, the crowds are in great spirits and there were a few Americans watching too 😁
Still waiting to hear this operatic voice 🤪😜😜👍 It was quite an emotional video watching the games, and the queen would normally be there….guess there is a lot of things that will feel strange for a while. Great vlog and we adore bagpipes 😍😍

The bar didn’t have enough beer in stock for Sarah to really unleash 😂 It’s a very emotional period of time right now, but she’s got a great stand in. Oh the bagpipes were immense, you could feel it in your chest 🤩🏴

Just back from our Bavarian trip, thanks for the heads up on Ypres it’s one I’ll never forget..unknown to us the Queens death had just been announced 30 mins before the last post, we realised only when members of the congregation starting singing god save the king. Ace time in Germany with excellent weather 👌👍

Hi! What is the name of the tune playing in the background at 01:43? It plays for just a few seconds. Then I think it's played also at 14:48. Thanks!

@@Professionalmoochers Hi! It was the tune being played in the background at 01:43. I think the tune being played at 14:48 with the shot of the bagpipers playing was the same as the background tune at 01:43 (but later in the melody), but am not positive. Either way, it's definitely the one at 01:43 that I'm curious about. Thank you!

What they wear is not a skirt, it's a kilt. It does everything a skirt does, hangs from the waist, places both legs together inside a single circle of fabric. But it isn't a skirt. Yeah, OK! Next person who shoots a wild hog in Alabama, tell the hog it wasn't a bullet, it was a cartridge.
