The irony of this game is that New England would go to beat Buffalo in the season finale 31-0.

The fact that this loss has catapulted the Pats to their 2nd super bowl title in 3 years
I would argue the 2014 pats chiefs game was the worst loss of the Brady belichick era. People thought the dynasty was over and that this would be Brady’s last season. But I can see why this game was picked, because it was truly the first game where all analysts thought belichick was argumentative and not a good coach with his players. Great upload!

At least new england scored points in that game. This was the pats first shutout loss to the bills since thurman thomas killed them in 1990, when the pats went 1-15

That 2014 Chiefs game was a complete nightmare. The Patriots started off sluggish and slow at the start of the season. Brady looked pretty “old” too, but that Chiefs loss made everyone think that Brady was done and the Patriots were no longer the top dog. Rest was history and it propelled the franchise to win more after all the events like bullshit “Deflategate” & Brady’s suspension lined up the dominos for more Patriots’ titles the following year.

@@Brendan-BlackAnd yet that game was definitely the worse loss of the two by a country mile. Brady made some egregious throws in the game that rightfully got him benched
Verne Lundquist of the SEC on CBS came back to the NFL on CBS to call this game filling in for Dick Enberg, who was covering US Open tennis. You’ll probably never see something like that again on CBS.
In hindsight, the Bills had a nasty defense: All-Pro Lawyer Milloy, Tackling machine London Fletcher Heavy Hitter TKO Spikes A younger Antoine Winfield and Nate Clements who would be All-Pro in 2004. Pat Williams and Sam Adams who weighed almost 700 pounds together in the middle.
Pats would avenge this loss big time…and then win another Title this season.

He did, famously convinced the locker room was against Belichick and that he would be ousted.
We may look at this game now as a random bad loss for one of the best dynasties ever . But in week 1 of 2003, literally no one thought this was a dynasty in the making. They just won a super bowl 2 years prior, but it was considered a fluke, even undeserved with the tuck rule game. Then they completely miss the playoffs the next year. I'd love to hear the discussions about the patriots after this horrendous game.

I remember this so vividly. There were still people saying Bledsoe should be the qb in Foxboro and Brady should’ve been traded for a high draft pick. In 2002, even though Buffalo went 8-8, Bledsoe threw for 4300 yards and went to the pro bowl, and after week 1 of ‘03, some fans were convinced Belichick gave up on the wrong guy and Brady was a flash in the pan. People started to talk themselves into Brady after the OT Miami game a few weeks later, and then after the intentional safety game against Denver there were more people on board. After beating Indianapolis on the goal line in November was when most of us thought the team was special
@RichV20

Patriots were considered a one-year winner after their underdog win in 2001. Then missed the playoffs the following year. There was no talk of dynasty. 2003 predictions had them as a Wild Card team and 15/1 odds to win it all.
Two amazing points from this game: Lawyer Milloy having an impact on this game after signing on Thursday of that week & that New England won the rematch in week 17 by the exact same score.
"They hate their coach"
The Lawyer Milloy game. After they won the sb this year I knew 01 wasn't a fluke. Wasn't sure till then tho, especially when missed the playoffs in 02 then started like this.

This was a great game back in the day. I revelled in how the Bills utterly dominated New England. Sadly, that was one of the very few highlights in an era where Brady made the Bills his personal whipping boy.

Fun fact: The patriots would go 17-1 for the remainder of 2003 following this loss. They also won 21 straight games from Week 5, 2003 to Week 7, 2004. Maybe they just needed this ass-kicking to get going😂
