We have both in our stable, as well as a pair of Royal Enfield Himalayans. Having ridden fat tire mountain bikes, I can say the TW is probably the most fun I've ever had under power. One drawback though-it'll seduce you into doing stuff you'll ride away from having completed, thinking " I really should have known better. after all, I'm supposed to be an adult!". In other words, it'll turn you back into a 10 year old on his first bicycle!

I’m from switzerland and have a yamaha tw 125 and it’s so much fun having it. I can drive in the city and when I’m bored I just leave it and drive into the forest.

Small edit; the tw will do anything, just don't ask it to do it in a hurry

TWs are very VERY fun farm equipment. XTs are built for different purposes. Having both is a great choice.

I own the 2019 Tw with Dg pipe carb tune. I traded with a XT 250 for about 5 miles.. The XT is best suited for road while the Tw shines in the trails... It is the Trail Way after all... The low seat height and low gearing make it more of a tank feeling than the XT. The XT definitely runs better over 45mph.. Another pro is the Tw is built to almost the same specs over 35 years ago and you feel the difference.

Good review / content. Well spoken and logical. From an overall performance standpoint, I see what you are saying about the fuel injected motor. But at the same time I think that there is something still to be said for SHEER simplicity from a mechanical perspective. The TW just exudes mechanical confidence and that stems from its simplicity. Up on a trail in the middle of nowhere with limited tools, I'd probably take the carbureted bike.

I have 750 miles on mine and the engine is starting to open up more. This bike has been so useful in learning to ride, getting over obstacles or situations with all the rainfall and avoiding people trying to run me off the road, yes someone did and my TW gracefully went off the road and back on. (middle aged female in a mid sized SUV, probably on her cell). Transportation is supposed to be utilitarian, like a truck is vs a car. This bike can get you through the apocalypse if necessary. It's fun to ride and pretty peppy for a 200cc. I love Yamaha products. I have the T7 as well.

XT says to the TW "I think there's some river rocks and logs on this trail, take the long way, I'll have the camp site set up when you get there."

Nice! The tdub was my go2 bike during motorcycle class. But after graduation and after some extensive research, i bought the xt250 instead. Both are great bikes indeed. It's more about what you prefer and what best suits you. Thanks for sharing!
