Ballard's right hand ride provides the rhythmic wash upon which the whole magic carpet flies.
That version of knives out is just out this world. I love how Brad thanks the musicians afterwards..

Thom York in collaboration w Mehldau ?
So, this is funny: I always see comments about how some rando knew or knew of the celeb. This time it's true: knew of, that is. Mehldau was a year behind me at Hall High School in West Hartford. I don't think I ever spoke to him, but I do clearly recall a talent show appearance by him in which he started off with a Chopin-esque musing-exploration that he stretched out as long as he could till bursting without warning into a blistering bluesy rollick. To thunderous applause. Hall had a fantastic jazz program--Joel Frahm came out of that, too. I just went there--but being a drummer now I really wish I'd gotten that training back in the day. Wasn't allowed to play drums. Oh, well. :) Glad to see people making great music, for sure.

A big name for the Greater Hartford Area.
Our newest Jazz Piano giant - for sure!
I grew up knowing Brad. We were very good friends at one point. We had the same piano teacher - Ruth Horowitz - I’m from Hartford

My brother in law Chris Broome, a sax player from Windsor Locks was in the state finals against him. He’s awesome.
This is really nice playing. I listen to a lot of Keith. This is the first time I feel like I'm getting Brad Mehldau a little bit. Also, and completely besides the point, Toulouse, La Ville Rose, is really beautiful. Lots of great memories from there.

Brad is def more cerebral, but there is real warmth in his playing
JUSTE MAGNIFIQUE , quelle écoute entre ces musiciens...Quel respect en symbiose...(un batteur qui a joué avec Rhoda SCOTT en 1992 et avec d'autres grands artistes)
I adore this man. How on Earth does he do it? No one plays like this. Only KJ comes close.
Oh, this is great, thank you!
Thank you KT for posting this great music. Instant fix on a trying day!
wonderful performance. thanks for posting!
Just awesome stuff thank you for your post
Fantastic performance, mesmerizing actually. Thanks so much for posting this gem.
I don't think I've ever heard Jeff Ballard sound better than he does here. I love Jorge Rossy and I'm usually less fond of Mr. Ballard, but man, he really sounds fantastic on this date.
Brad is a Master! The Drummer n Bais are as well! Great sound n video!
i just got blown away
One of the super trios of all time

Top 3 jazz pianists in your opinion? My personal favorites are Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington and Vince Guaraldi.

Erroll Garner, Oscar Peterson …. Keith Jarrett … Chick Corea …. McCoy Tyner …. Stephen Scott …. Etc. Etc. Etc.
The Very Thought of You was written by Ray Noble, not Nat Cole
One more thing. The Very Thought of You was written by Ray Noble. Konstantinos, it would be polite to give the correct credit.
Cool
Anyone know if there is a dvd or cd of this concert i can buy?
E' la sua personalità musicale adatta alla forma Jazz oppure è il Jazz che si piega con le note alla sua personalità???
Marvelous. Anyone knows if it is possible to purchase a DVD recording of this performance? I haven't found anything on the web. Thank you!

50 ways to NOT play a cheesy Paul Simon tune is a more apt title. The Very Thought of You works until it doesn’t(when the flow stops at Brad’s extended solo). On the other hand, Brad really shines with She’s Leaving Home where he demonstrates the art of playing softer but flowing louder(until he doesn’t). The other tunes are not worth mentioning. Overall, the bass and drums are annoying and do not compliment the piano enough to justify their inclusion.
