This song was released as part of the movie soundtrack for 'City of Angels'... (Goo Goo Dolls had a huge hit 'Iris' from the same soundtrack album) The lyrics go well w/ the plot of the movie - Nicholas Cage plays an immortal angel who falls in love w/ a female surgeon, played by Meg Ryan. The conflict is that Cage's angel is responsible for collecting deceased souls for the afterlife, while Ryan's surgeon is dedicated to saving lives...

As someone else said, this was created for the City of Angels soundtrack, a movie about a forbidden love between an angel and a mortal. Alanis was given a rough edit of the movie to watch before writing the song and at the time she wrote it she was also going through something in her personal life that she could write about and have it also fit the movie's characters as well. I think this is why the song hits so hard, she's writing from her own experience.

"Jagged Little Pill" was on of the best albums released in the 90s. When Alanis dropped "You Outta Know," that became my rock-out anthem, even though I hadn't experienced a bad break-up! Then energy was infectious. Brad likes her voice and so do I. There's nobody else who sounds like Alanis that I can think of. She has a quirky way of pronouncing her words when she sings that I just love. If you haven't reacted to "Hand in Pocket," you should try that one next. Or "Ironic." That's a great one. Cheers!

Alanis is a grandmaster. It's very rare to find music and poetry so well crafted and even more rare still to have someone as skilled as Alanis to be able to sing it. You could live 10,000 lifetimes and not achieve such a result.

Brad I really enjoyed watching you smiling to this song This song uninvited by Alanis Morissette was done with a symphony band. Recommend watching the video. Highly recommend checking out the song White hot by Tom Cochrane and Red Rider and the symphony. Then check out Supertramp Fool's Overture. Approximately 14 minutes of greatness. The thing about all these three groups. They are all Canadian. A little history on Alanis Morissette. In 1986 she was on a TV show based out of Ottawa Ontario Canada where she's from. The TV show was called you can't do that on television. He already did Tom Cochrane and Red Rider Lunatic Fringe.

I love it! I love Alanis, been listening to her since 1995! That was my senior year of high school, when Jagged Little Pill came out! In case you guys didn't know, what happened was, this song is for the movie City of Angels, with Meg Ryan and Nicolas Cage. Cage plays an Angel of the Lord who falls in love with Meg Ryan. He "falls" to Earth to become human so that he could be with her, and they are together for a while, then at the end of the movie she is riding her bike with her eyes closed and her arms extended, and is hit by car and dies! 😞 Alanis's song plays at the end of the movie. 🙂 Don't know if you guys have ever seen her live? I saw her live for the first time in 2021, I flew out to Las Vegas from San Francisco. When she plays this song, toward the end when she says "it's not I think you're unworthy, I just need time to deliberate", she does this headbang dance with a strobe light. The idea of the song is that she is Meg Ryan trying to resist the power of an angel who has fallen in love with her and she doesn't want it to overwhelm her. In the play Jagged Little Pill which is currently touring, and which I saw last week, this song is used when the mom overdoses on fetananyl. I strongly suggest both seeing Alanis live and seeing the musical! 🙂

Hey guys! If you want to hear a voice being prominant, might I suggest Agnes Obel. Check out her live performance of The Curse from the Berlin Live Sessions, it's fantastic. Another singer that offers that same voice-up-front is Aurora. If you want to hear almost nothing but a fragile, beautiful voice, she's the one. A good song to start off is It Happened Quiet (Live at the Current) She also does a lot of great covers of other songs, her version of Ariana Grande's God Is a Woman is glorious. Murder Song live from nidarosdomen is another song by her that's faaaaaantastic, but it is fairly intense. Another two songs with a similar vibe that I just love by another artist: Susanne Sundfor - White Foxes, just go for the official video. Another song by Susanne is called The Brothel, again, the official music video is great. Those three artists are likely to make Brad tear up a bit. :D These are all scandinavian artists(agnes being danish, the rest being norwegian), if it is one thing we do really well up here it is produce female singers with gorgeous angel-like voices who have no fear of standing out and making stuff you don't really hear much elsewhere. Often compared to elven music, whatever that is.. Everyone should check out these artists. They deserve to be heard by more people. Especially Agnes and Susanne who have somehow gone semi unnoticed by the world at large. There's tons more amazing stuff by these people, well worth digging your way through.

It's cool to see Brad connect so much with someone's music after all the videos you guys have reacted to and it's only been humdrum reactions from him. Just nothing that he's really connected to until freakin Alanis Morisette. There's him pausing and saying OK to other videos then there's him pausing and saying OK to AM videos. I hope she sees your reactions.

Her voice - Its just so pretty and takes me back to the 90's when I was kid. I cant describe it. Whenever I listen to her it gives me the chillest 90's carefree vibes. I miss growing up as a kid in the 90's. Chills!!! Just something about the way she throws her voice and her facial movement singing is so beautiful. She has that 90's swag that can never fade. TIMELESS BEAUTY. Ok enough of me having a crush on her as a 34y/o dude XD.
