WATFORD JUNCTION STATION in JUNE 1987
On a beautiful bright crisp morning I was on my way North and caught my train from Watford Junction. I was there bright and early so managed to capture on camera several south bound sleepers. The Stranrear Harbour was one of them and the Inverness sleeper was another. The Royal Train passed through with her twin tail lights heading towards London. Also several freight trains passed and several of the AC Class of loco's, 81,85,86 & 87 an interesting selection of diesel locomotives and class 313 and 310 EMU's. Not a mobile phone in sight or Tablet, the old days of broad sheet newspapers for the daily commuters. Remember those times.

That brings back some great childhood memories. There was one great traction on the WCML back then. I'm based at Watford Junction now and it's great to see it as it was when I was a kid. Thanks for sharing!

I have to say a massive thanks to you for all your fantastic videos! The camera angles, lingering looks at the full train passing, as if you were actually there watching and the ability to set the scene and atmosphere help to make your videos stand out and much more enjoyable than most. Invaluable research for modelling this era. I'm just ordering a class 310 so very helpful!

Great video. I think the Manchester service would have been the 06.50 Euston to Piccadilly, a long time service was that, ran for years. A give away is the station announcement, via Crewe and calling at Nuneaton, one of the very few Manchester services that called there at the time. I wonder what the 'bubble car' DMU was doing, Croxley Green services perhaps? Loads of cracking stuff on here, many thanks for bringing back some memories!

All those four car trains and empty platforms.. and that electrification wagon is still in the sidings then and is there today, now cut off from the network on an isolated piece of track

85 & 81 double heading a Freightliner, both under power; I don't think they could work in multiple, so there must have been a driver in each

Yep, if both under power would have had a driver on each one. No multiple working fitted on the classes 81-85. 👍

Must've been a Sunday as AL5s were more frequent on weekdays. My first DMU was on Camden Bank in 1989.

Interesting that 4 car trains were sufficient for morning peak workings. It must have been modernised by the time I came to use it regularly; looks like still the old buildings there. 😢 Class 85 dragging an 86: failure?
