Excellent series of videos. Takes me back to my teenage years seeing double headed class 20's, 47's, 56's & 58's hauling MGR's down the Hatton Bank as they headed towards Didcot Power Station. Also seeing the liveries on the locos change through the years from BR blue through to railfreight & then the various sectors. Then they changed to Mainline, Transrail & Loadhaul and eventually EWS took over. Also seeing the old loco's be withdrawn & replaced with new locos like the Class 66 & 67.

By gum it certainly has got my brain going seeing the locos following one another. Me & my mate went to Stapleford & Sandiacre station in 1965 from Cudworth via Sheffield. We saw loads of peaks 47's & 20's on the slow lines all backed up to one another for miles, all pulling 16 ton coal wagons. We even got round the sheds and saw where the beyer garatts used to be shed. Saw 4 of the early peaks 1 to 10 as you didn't see them around us. Great video Looks like it was shot from the other end of the Marshalling yards. Will be going through them one by one.

Excellent, had to watch again for the umpteenth time. A Nostalgia drug for me, in the days of Snorkel Parka, Cords & DM's sneaking around the Depot/Yards and the beauty of the Nottinghamshire Romanians feat. Electroputere 56 Grids.

I did many trips to Sandiacre TOTON yard i was about 15-16 & ill never forget all the rows & rows of 45's all condemned, some in good condition, i couldnt understand it. Very sad 😢😢

FANTASTIC ! This is sacred ground, many happy memories from 35+ years ago, my ashes will be spread here.

This is mindblowing!!! Even the close-up clunking and buffering of the HAA's. Also amazed at them MGR's following each other, never seen that before! Memories. Thanks a lot :D

Even the Class 60s are about finished, incredible as to how much has changed on the rail scene in the last 25 years, or, so. And to see those 3 MGR trains running within 40 feet of each other is something that we'll never see again, wonderful memories thanks a lot for sharing them with us all, more videos please, if you have anything suitable from the olden days.

Many thanks Richard, The 3 MGR's behind one another is called Permissive Block working, I am not sure whether that has been ruled out, but it was fairly frequent in those days. So glad it brought back memories and yes I do still have tons to post from this era both from the UK and Continent, I will get round to it eventually, thanks again.....Mark

Another excellent video. I found the MGRs running v close together fascinating. I was unaware this occurred. One of these things I would not have believed had I not seen it! Am guessing easier to do with empties than fully loaded rather rakes. Reminded me of the fiddle yard at the model railway clubs layout where we have up to 4 trains per track.

Great video.... brings back great memories with some great motive power.Keep them coming.

47:20 Working the Denby branch. Two guards / shunters (one in each brake van), one to open the manual crossing gates and another to close the gates behind. There were about 5 sets of gates to operate, most were little used village roads but Rawson Green was a busy road and the traffic would not stop. This was made worse by the run around points requiring the gates just to poke the nose end of the loco onto the road which really annoyed the motorists. Later on the brake vans were dispensed with and one shunter would use an Astra van and work remotely to open and close the gates.

The MGR trains were Merry Go Round Trains that ran virtually to the power stations delivering coal and then to the collieries to fill up again. Mainly seen in the Midlands and Wales where there were still collieries.....These trains were mainly made up of consists of around 30+ hopper wagons.....Other viewers may have a more accurate description....Best regards....Mark
