Boyuurange / Reisong A50 300B Tube Amp Basic Mods Part Two

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this second of a two part video, we check some voltages and then look at the results of these modification on my analog scope. The results weren't all the surprising to me and after listening to the amp for a day, the final mod in this initial first "stage" was a definite improvement.
We do some basic changes which increase the output voltage, still well below putting any stress on the tubes, which brings out 1.5W of power over the stock amp. There is more to come so please subscribe to stay tuned!

If there's one thing I've learnt over my year's, it's never believe anything in internet forums without verifying.😂 And this video just proves that way of thinking is best. I used to be active on a few speaker building forums, but quit about 15 year's ago, too many people thinking they were somehow godly, and just absolute nonsense being touted. As soon as the term 'audiophile' became a common thing, that's when it was clear it was all going to crap, too many pretentious types parroting nonsense and trying to be in the 'audiophile' exclusive club 😂 That's why I love this channel so much, totally admire your pure passion for what you do and just being normal about it all. And the fact you are helping us less informed people learn about tube amps the way you do is awesome. 🙂

I just found my new favorite channel. You show and explain things so clearly. I'm tempted to get the amp and follow along but I live in a nursing home and can imagine what would happen if they found me with a soldering iron and a naked amp on the slab. Moving o to part 3 now :)

Very interesting. I like the way you describe what is going on and what you are doing. I am excited to see how this turns out. A little off topic but I would love to see you mod the reisong a10. I own one of those. It sounds good but light on the bottom end. Anyways, great video.

At some point later, after I finish some other projects, I might ask for someone to send me one like someone did with this A50 to mod for them and make a video series. I love EL34 amps!

I agree with your premise. The current driver design wastes the 300B's potential and that's a much too expensive tube to waste.

I'm curious, what is your "reference" system components? How long have you been @ this hobby? I enjoy your content!

Right now my best sounding gear is my 6SQ7/EL34 amp with some Klipsch RP600M speakers, an EAR834 clone tube phono stage with a technics SL-B2 turntable running an AT VM540ML cart or a Yamaha s-300 CD deck. While I've tinkered with electronics most of my life, I've actually only been messing with tube gear for a few years and am constantly learning new stuff. I try to explain this stuff how I understand it, from a non-engineering perspective and try to keep things as simple as possible :)

For the coupling caps, instead of 0.47uF then you put in 1.0uF, is it a waste of money or it would change the sound as well? Thanks

Bigger isn't better, you look at the coupling cap + the grid leak resistor and how that creates a high pass filter for the signal feeding the output tube.

I find that the cathode bypass cap is as critical as the coupling cap in terms of SQ.. So at least use an Elna Silmic II for the driver stage if one is gonna stick with the cascaded direct coupled circuit, and maybe a Nichicon Muse for the 300B output stage cathode bypass..

I agree caps are important. Right now I'm just trying to get the power output where it needs to be :)

Hi i replaced the Vol pot to a TKD and there is a superior audio leap... try it?

I can see a quality audio pot being a good idea. I'm not so sure how big a difference that would make?

@@SkunkieDesignsElectronics try it, its a pleasant surprise, its not subjective but a quantum leap. My A50 now sings with good bass and warmth, the Vol pot at only 9 0clock all the musicality delivered. Prior, the Vol ssttings will hve to be around 11 and slightly more playing from my Triangle Titus ES speakers. I am delighted!

@@thomasleong9401 so changing the voltage divider device on the signal input increased the bass/ warmth and power output? O.o

@@SkunkieDesignsElectronics if you get another A50 try that, as first port of call to mod and improve the amp. I did change coupling to a Mundorf Supreme cap 0.47uf, basically replacing the orignal cap but kept the uf value. Its all good now.
