Boys Day At Home, Playing With The New Toys & Being Dinosaurs! | Home Vlog

In today's home vlog Tim and Jackson just hang out at home! They have a boys day and play with the new toys. We also talk about what everyone's been up to since our last home vlog. We got Jackson a little ball pit which is his new favorite thing! He loves being buried with the balls, I think it's a great sensory tool and he definitely enjoys it. We also show you his progress with his letter writing tool and the app we use to trace the letters. Mommy and Jackson also make up a new game with the play couch cushions lol. Then daddy and buddy pretend to be dinosaurs, and this is another one of Jackson's favorite games right now! All in all it was a great day at home and we hope you had fun hanging out with us! Thank you for watching and we'll see you tomorrow with a new vid!

First, as 2nd grade teacher, I want to thank you for all you do to help Jackson! He is amazing!!! I am not sure if you know, but probably close to 50% of kindergarteners come to school not knowing how to spell their name, they don't know their colors, they don't know their numbers or how to count, they don't know their ABC's. I love how you openly explain things to Jackson! I did want to tell Tim that the way he learned how to write letters is the way we used to teach it. In the 25 years that I have been teaching, printing has changed 4 times. Talk about confusing for the teacher. Jackson is going to do fantastic in school, and don't be surprised if his teacher tells you he needs to be in the gifted program. KUDOS, TIM & JEN!!!! BRAVO!!!

My daughter used to do what Jackson is doing with the shapes. She would get frustrated and would just do it wild to distract that she was upset and it wasn’t perfect! She’s 17 and she’s still like that in certain ways 😂🙊

I can see a lot of myself in that. I am a perfectionist who gets easily discouraged, so I totally get the “mess it up as soon as it’s not perfect anymore” tendency.

The issue of people pushing their self too hard in the heat is an issue everywhere. Every time I go to Carowinds in NC, during the summer, I see someone throwing up. Take care of yourself, stay hydrated, plan to take breaks. Nothing will ruin the rest tof your day faster than having a health emergency because you neglected your bodies need for rest and hydration

Fun fact from a pediatric OT: That wooden board is showing the evidence-based way to teach letter formation. Students taught formation that way are more likely to have good legibility and less likely to have trouble with note taking pacing in class (less likely to fall behind while taking notes during a lecture). Science! The more you know! 😁

When I taught little ones, we did cooking experiences all the time, and tied it in with counting, and even a little of practical fractions--so it's definitely a good thing that Jackson's getting to do that as well. Also, i guess you could consider the elevator game Toddler Tower of Terror!

You don't write your letters incorrectly. That is how I do it and it is because we learned cursive. The way you were showing the direction of your pen shows that you learned cursive sometime. They don't teach it anymore which in my opinion is sad. Lost art! Jackosn is hilarious! I love his bubbly personality. But I hope he is learning to say please when he wants something from Daddy. He seems to do it with Jen, but doesn't seem to do it with Tim. Of course I'm not there all the time and we are only seeing the tiny clips from your life. You two are awesome parents!

There are many different writing curriculums. So you probably were not taught wrong! The best thing to do would be to check with your local school district so that he doesn’t have to change when he gets to school! Some districts are more structured on teaching writing these days than others! And he’s a little young so if he’s not getting it now I would stop it and come back in a little while! But he’s doing amazing! I’m getting ready to start my 30th year of teaching.

I see you have a mostly deflated Mickey mylar balloon in Jackson's play room. If you want to deflate it and re-use it, just put a straw deep in the hole where you put in the helium, then push out the air and take out the straw. You can then fold it and save it to re-inflate later. Small helium tanks are at Party City or Walmart. (This doesn't work with laytex, just mylar.)

I worked on that popcorn cart in Canada for MONTHS.........unfortunately most people do not do enough research on the weather and then think- its the only time we get or holidays so we are going during the peak season. I’m late to comment but I have a theory about the direction for the way the letters are printed. Top down and left to right progression is preferred because that’s how English is written and read on a page of text. I’ve taught a couple of different reading programs and the top down, left to right progression was presented as being extremely important for emergent or struggling readers, so it makes sense to teach printing individual letters the same way.

Hoooooooome Vloooooog! Guys edition. I'm exhausted just watching Jackson running around, I had forgotten how much energy little boys have. We sometimes go to WDW in the summer, actually did it most years when my son was younger just because of school. We always took an afternoon break, he used to love the pool. I'll be there the last week in Aug. and you can bet I'll be back at the BWI in the afternoon either at the pool or in my room. My son will be there with his family in Sept., including his daughter who will be 17 mo. old by then, and I know they will be going back to the room mid-day. We were there last Sept. when she was just 5 months old and not only went back to the room during the afternoon but while we were in the parks she had two fans flowing on her and we had her drinking a lot, kept her sun shade up all the time and I was constantly wiping her down with a wet cloth.

If you see him “go silly” with a tracing activity, it’s a normal thing for a 2 1/2 year old to do, because it teaches he/she that it can help with writing later on in life.

I think it's time to cut him off of Bluey. I noticed he has a bit of an accent when he said there and a couple of other words. He's softening his ts and rs. Fun!

So interesting to hear your writing question at the beginning of the video b/c I just had the same conversation with a friend. The way some teach writing now is not efficient & doesn’t support learning to write in cursive. My kids learned to write cursive before they learned to write print, but they go to a private school. It’s supposed to somehow benefit hand-eye-brain coordination to learn cursive first. I don’t remember exactly. Their approach to teaching is much different than most public schools.

If you have some extra balls, get a small plastic pool for your yard and put the extra balls in there. Those can be outside balls and a place for him to play outside and clean balls inside.

Tim I am 100% on board with you on teaching penmanship, I had SEVERAL teachers in elementary school who constantly berated me for how I would write "E's" "A's" "7's", the only time it got better was when we were learning Cursive (but that was because all students started on the same page- pun not intended)

Have Jackson try Endless alphabet app! My son loves it and I’ve used it for kids I watched for the last 10 years! Incorporates puzzles with phonics! We use it with abc mouse!
