    The aim of the game is to knock pins down and hopefully win. How you throw ~ straight, spin, huge hook etc does not matter as long as the bowler is happy and enjoys the game. Every person has a style, no judgement should be necessary.

  • @fergbutt
    @fergbutt10 жыл бұрын

    You have to understand that in Taiwan The oil goes close to the whole way down the lane, leaving no room for the ball to hook, therefore, they spin the ball like this to make it roll on the 1-2-6-10 pins so it hits the others down diagonally. Yeah, it's boring, but the only way for them to do consistently well.

    That helicopter release is a killer. The idea is to put that ball at about the 18 board if right handed and the ball when hitting the pocket, it would deflect and take out the 3,6,and 10 pins while the 1,3,and 6 would rocket into the rack. That release would be effective on just about every condition out there. That ball can't weigh more than 12 pounds of it would drive though the rack instead of deflecting as intended.

    That's the idea,you want to throw 10--12lb ball if you go straight because a slight miss will make the ball deflect to the 10 pin avoiding splits or even getting you a strike. if you throw 15lb ball straight it could lead to many 5-10 pin splits.

    Lanes in Asia are not (maybe used to be) maintained as well. They just slop oil on the lanes and it's not often they do it. The condition of the lanes became atrocious. That is how this style developed. What's amazing about this style is that it's super consistent on any oil pattern. Their averages are like 215-ish on any lane condition. It's good for a US Open condition where conditions are rough, but on a house pattern, 215 is only ok.

  • @FrankyboyLegend
    @FrankyboyLegend11 жыл бұрын

    that's the whole point! The technique was developed to combat any oil condition. Well I used to do this it's quite deadly insane messengers bouncing off the walls and it's okay if the ball hits brooklyn.

    I average 210 in a PBA experience league, I have a rev-rate upwards of 400 rpm, average ball speed of 18 mph, I'm solid at the line and very accurate for a power player. I bowled some pot games when i was visiting my friend in Taiwan last year, I watched a guy with a the helicopter style average 240 through 8 games with a plastic ball when I was going two-oh every game because I could barely keep the ball right of the head pin. Any touring pro will tell you that style has its advantages.

    I only use 2 fingers-no thumb and a 2 hand delivery. I can hook a house ball and ride the gutter as good as any club ball player, my mechanics suck because im 6-1 and started league bowling at age 42 but right now after 2 seasons im averaging 165. Fundamentals depend on what you are taught with. Ty Cobb the greatest singles hitter in baseball history didnt even know how to hold a bat, but he held the all time hits record for 60+ years.

    He's not throwing a straight ball. Straight balls roll end over end. He's not doing that. Look at his hand at release, he brings it around the full equator of the ball, causing the ball to spin horizontally instead of a vertical axis. It certainly doesn't look that easy to do, and requires a lot of control in order to be effective.

    First, I don't think this kid made it to the TV show just because of luck. He's obviously able to stay competitive. If they drench the lanes and have unpredictable oil patterns and strange carry-down, it may be very advantageous to take the lane out of the equation. I think he compensates for lack of drive by hitting higher in the pocket than we would. He must be severely accurate to do that. He may have been aiming light towards the end of the match to avoid splits when he had a sufficient lea

    I'll agree with you there for sure, most centers in Asia have TERRIBLE upkeep on their lanes, but Taipei, Taiwan and Tokyo have come a long way since I quit, my friend even told me that his home center in Taipei just ordered a Kegel machine for a sport league. But on some chewed up lanes where there is no real pattern, I'd use the helicopter style all day if I had half a clue how to throw it like that, because making the standard, logical adjustments will NEVER cut it on those conditions.

  • @vidgamescool

    This guy is EXACTLY right. The reason people do not like it is because it sort of manipulates the game, as does two handed, and two finger. It's not against the rules, but it just irritates some people when they can't bowl conventionally and score. This "UFO" is a over-exaggerated backup ball. Like this guy said, doing this on REAL conditions would have you barely breaking 100.

    the spinner is a highly effective technique in bowling it looks usually like a common straight ball but the amount of rotations that are on the ball are what matters , you need skill to use this technique its not an over night thing if you do it wrongly you can break fingers and such , im just a stroke bowler so i don't use this technique but i have done research into most types of bowling throws and techniques

    this is quite deadly style; even if your ball hits brooklyn you have a high chance of messengers. Before I got a hook ball I used to do this a lot. The problem for me is it's quite hard to be consistent with your release due to the fact you twist your wrist.

    I'm sure this style of release was developed response to either extremely dry or wet conditions because it is not the most effective method for throwing strikes when conditions are conducive to hitting the pocket with a ball that is released in the more conventional style of most professional bowlers. If bowlers competed on lanes with little to no oil where having a hook was detrimental because it couldn't be controlled we would probably all be working on our spinners.

    @jstMichael In other words, in spinning, the ball takes out the entire right-side of the rack, and the 1-3-6-10 pins topple the entire row behind them like dominos. Conventional bowling relies on a more precise system of pin action. IMO, although the domino effect is ingenious, it is still inconsistent, and relies more on gravity than actual bowling skill. It is also a bad strategy when the oil patterns are more modern - allowing the competitor to use the better conventional style.

  • @yuppiehi
    @yuppiehi12 жыл бұрын

    @jstMichael You're actually wrong, although it took me awhile to figure this out myself. Conventional strike - 1-3 pocket. Ball hits only the 1,3,5 and 8 pins - the 1 pin hits the 2-4-7, the 3 hits the 6-9, and the 5 hits the 8. In a spinning strike, the ball spins clock-wise. The ball must come from the left and enter the 1-3 pocket as if it was drifting away from the 1 pin. The ball hits only the 1,3,6 and 10 pins. The 1 hits the 2-4-7, the 3 hits the 5-8, and the 6 hits the 9.

    I'm a tweener and I have to say that is very hard to do, he's not throwing just a straight ball, the main difference is that the rotation on the ball doesn't react on the lane, reacts on the pins. And I'm sure is pretty easy to do something to your wrist throwing like that.

    I absolutely agree, everyone has the right to bowl the way they choose. But if i had to bowl this way, as much as i love the game, i would lose all passion for the game. There's no versatility to try and achieve, etc. etc. In other words we bowl to score high by becoming skillful at tools that help us on particular patterns. That's the fun! NOTJUST for the high scores. If i shot 300 or 800 bowling this way, it wouldn't feel as rich or valuable. THAT'S why.

    @fwtdDummie No I did not. Spinner release is not oil pattern dependent if done correctly so it will still gets lots of strikes even on extreme oiling conditions. The only drawback of spinner release is precision abit too late and it veers of course. But with hook release there's more play I think so even if the ball hits dead at the head pin it will still strike because of the side rotation.

    @Nelvin78 Proper fundamentals are different when you have lanes made of pure friction. Mika combated similar conditions by lofting the ball. People of Asian descent are generally of a smaller build. Therefore, lofting isn't exactly natural or easy. They figured out a way to be consistent while still being able to deal with their garbage lane surfaces. Proper is what you can repeat, what allows you to score on your lane conditions, and what will strike. Sounds like UFO to me.

    @Antzcarb True, but he's starting on the left side of the lane, so shouldn't it be better to drive in the ball from the left side for more pin carry? Cause if your a left-handed normal spinner, your ball comes out left and goes in the left pocket. His ball is starting off from the left and drifting "over" his pocket and hitting brooklyns which means less carry. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    With the way he is throwing the ball it does not need to be powerful like that of a high rev cranker. If you watch the pin action the ball hits the pocket and then, because of the spin, deflects and combs the right hand side of the pins. The ball doesn't need to hit hard since it's intended to roll along the side of the pin set instead of driving through like is normally seen nowadays. The ball hits exactly as it is supposed to for that style. It's not your style of bowling.....deal with it.

I am used to always trying to drive the ball through the pocket and lessen deflection, this is the opposite almost, deflecting the ball across the 1-3-6-10. So here's my question then: Why (for a righty) isn't the ball usually thrown across the 30-35 board or so to open up the entry angle and add more deflection? This guy aims from almost dead center.

    looking at the comments, im quite surprise to learn that people claim they bowl, but dint know that spin is a legitimate bowling style, as good as hook, cranker and back-up.

    We all have our dislikes and likes for styles in __insert sport here__. I've seen traditional 1-hand, 2-fingers palm 1-hand, 2-handed and now this UFO spinner stuff. I personally like anything except UFO spinner stuff.
