fascinating approach. I never thought of pre wetting the fibers with resin before trying to get them to adhere to the patch or strength members in a fiberglass repair or modification. An incredibly well executed high results yielding modification of this hull. WOW. One observation: it seems like many of these thruster systems run at way to high an RPM and create a lot of cavitation and noise too, that is not necessarily applying the best amount of thrust, as power is being wasted in the cavitation issue.

Cheers for the comment. Credit for the installation and great work goes to Rich at Yacht Systems. But pre wetting is something I've always done too for fiddly jobs, really makes it flow much easier. I think the high RPM is to execute the move, the propellors are fairly small given the weight they are tasked to move. We opted for a system slightly bigger than the standard for our boat. The noise, yes, they're loud - for myself it simply comes down to sound proofing that has yet to happen. The tube is mounted forward of the wheelhouse under one step, so you hear everything full thrust. Not noticed any cavitation, I think this comes down to the actual installation and how solid the tube is mounted. I've no complaints at all with this improvement to My Way and it has proven itself on many occasions already.

It gave me a very insecure feeling to be looking through a hole in the hull to the other side. I wish we could have seen how the motor & prop were installed, but the process otherwise was interesting & looked very carefully done. It obviously worked quite well, especially in a tight harbor. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers, it was just a quick play with the phone taking short videos. I tried with the motor installation, but in such a tight area to work, none of the footage worked out well. Agree the cutting of the hole just seems so wrong.

Is there any drag from such an installment that needs to be taken to the consideration i.e. lower speed and/or higher fuel consumption? Must have been a really scary moment when the big holes were cut 😄

There’s nothing noticeable at all. With the thruster forward, there is no noticeable drag and it simply adds to our manoeuvrability. Yeah when Rich cut the first hole, I was like WTF 😂. Boats shouldn’t have holes below the waterline. As the process moved forward and watching his attention to detail on the tube installation and security I was more than happy

I laid fiberglass cloth and carbon fiber cloth using fiberglass resin. Its a little easier by dunking the cloth sections in th resin but not necessarily it will seep into the cloth regardless. Fiberglass resin is some mean stuff! Has a half life of 10000 years causes tumors cancer and God knows what else. You can mix anything with it. I mix white sand makes it not yoo runny for deep pockets or deep holes.

Purtroppo police in giù essendo un installatore professionista di eliche di prua avete fatto degli errori c'è una specifica di stratificazione sia interna che esterna e poi bisogna tagliare il lato di prua più sporgente e farci un baffo taglia acqua

Thank you both for such positive comments 😂. Worked today alongside a cruise ferry that had 3 thrusters on the bow. Does that make the Master incapable 🤔. Think not! Having spent 3 years turning 38ft in 50ft in every weather I decided to make my life easier. Look forward to seeing you 0 video 0 Subscriber answers 👍👍
